Fantastic food and service in a charming Berkshires Inn dining room. The experience was so good it made us wish we had booked rooms so that we could come down the beautiful staircase in the morning to brunch! Robert, our young server, was one of the best we've ever had and was so sweet to us I feel as though I should write his mother a thank you note!

We had a lovely dinner at Gateways. After an initial glitch with the service we had an excellent server. The butternut squash soup was delicious as was the hamburger and the Brussel sprouts. Overall we had a very positive experience.

We decided to dine at Gateway over the weekend in wonderful Lenox MA, based on top Trip Advisor reviews. Pleasant atmosphere in in nice old hotel. For appetizers we selected the butternut squash soup and arancini (rice balls) were quite tasty. For entrees we chose the roast chicken and panko filet of sole. Both had a side of veggies. In all, while theses were nicely presented, they were WAY to salty. The sole particularly was almost inedible. Even the dinner rolls were very salty. We wanted to like this place more but, but based on our entrees, it’s hard to rate it highly. Not worth the cost. Much better food in town.

The food was amazing. I eat gluten free and was served hot gluten free rolls soon after we sat down. My husband and I shared the citrus beet “starter”—a great choice. I had the squash salad with pomegranate seeds, and my husband had the butternut squash soup—both delicious. I had the steak for an entree, and my husband had the burger—again, both superb and cooked to perfection. The ambience was pleasant, and the service excellent. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed the meal, however we were seated in an area that was an all season porch and it was noticeably chilly. Also, the hard floor and other surfaces made the noise really quite loud. There was a party of 6 women seated near us , who were speaking and laughing loudly to the point I often couldn't hear my own companion speaking to me. The waiter Robert was terrific, very professional yet friendly and warm. Food was really good.

Ok. The staff needs some serious training. I get that labor is short etc but it was amateur hour. The drinks. We both ordered whiskey based specialty cocktails. All they tasted of was bitters. And we drink Manhattans daily so we know what a good bourbon drink is. The food. The pickled vegetables were good. The blue cheese and fig torte was terrible. Tasted old. The pork loin dish with cabbage was excellent. Cooked properly with great flavors. Highly recommend. But the service was so bad it didn’t matter. We had to ask for plates after the food arrived. We had no knives. Finally stole them from the next table Waited forever to have the table cleared. Etc. Nice atmosphere, pleasant people. Just very poorly trained. This is on the manager.

We've had dinner in Lenox dozens of times, but never at Gateways. Turns out this was a mistake on our part--the place is great! So why only four stars overall? The service was...leisurely, at best. As it happens, on this occasion we were happy to sit and talk for the three plus hours our dinner required, but that's not always the case. Our waiter mentioned they were very short staffed last night--okay, I understand that and know it's a problem everywhere these days. Still, it needs to be addressed at a restaurant of this caliber. Wish I had the answer. Also, and this was a real negative for us, we were seated in the main dining room, with its lovely, very traditional vibe. Including a grand piano, with its admittedly very talented pianist...playing WAY too loud. Wow. Had we been two rooms away, this might have provided a nice little silence-filling ambiance, but as it was, we could barely talk to each other. Back to the restaurant itself, the food, from beginning to end, was outstanding. The fig and blue cheese tart, the butternut squash soup, the salmon, the cod, and the pork loin were all exceedingly well thought out and prepared. Kudos to the chef and staff. And for those who judge a restaurant on its restrooms, no disappointment there!

Very pretty New England Inn with wonderful character and attentive friendly staff. Food was acceptable and passable and a solid value but not exceptional. Would I go again? Definitely...with a bit of managed expections on the actual food part.

When Gateways changed it hands, we went over Memorial Day weekend and loved it. We were especially excited that Karen Tchourgarian, whose music we had previously enjoyed for a number of years at the Blantyre, was now at Gateways. But when we went the Saturday of Columbus Day Weekend -- a peak weekend in the Berkshires -- there was no live entertainment at all. This was very disappointing. And because the room is arranged for there to be entertainment, the setup of the tables in that area felt disconnected from the rest of the room. Further, there was a wedding party there that night and the wait staff was using that as an excuse for slow service, but a good restaurant should be able to plan for large parties if they are also welcoming other guests. Food wise, the crispy Brussel sprouts were excellent and my husband enjoyed the cod, but my mushroom/lentil burger was dry and overcooked. I'm leaving my recommendation as a "yes" because I had a good experience there in the past. If I were to base it off this recent visit, it would be a"no". I'm hoping this experience was the outlier.

We love dining here. The service is always terrific, the on site restaurant manager always tries to accommodate our requests, and the food choices and preparations are top notch. The dining room are lovely and you feel as if you’re in someone’s home. Please keep up the good work!

A delightful spot in an old mansion. There are four separate dining areas, one of which features live music. The evening we were there featured a wonderful piano player who entertained with just the right volume. Service was great, and we enjoyed the food, although it was a bit more sauced and spiced than we prefer. That being said, our tastes have become simpler as we age, and most folks would probably find it just right!

This was a very pleasant surprise. The food was the best we’ve had in a long time! Our server was attentive and accommodating. We were celebrating our 41st anniversary and honestly couldn’t have picked a better place. I hope we come back again sometime!

First time here and we spend weekends in Lenox frequently so we’re familiar with the restaurant scene here. The ambiance here was really nice along with the jazz band however, we were seated rather far away in what appears to be a relatively new addition to the classic inn. We really wanted to Love this place but unfortunately the service was sub par!! The Food was excellent, my wife ordered the Cod and I had the chicken tacos and they were both delicious. The wine menu was limited but decent selection and the bartender made tasty cocktails (grey goose Cosmo) but they were pretty weak and seeing that we were spending the weekend and walking (not driving) a stronger cocktail would’ve been nice, also the martini glasses were half filled. Our Server was a very sweet young lady, however, she desperately NEEDS some training. We were never told about additions to the menu, which would’ve been helpful as I probably would’ve ordered one when I heard what they were from the table next to us after we ordered. We sat with empty water glasses for what felt like an eternity as well as empty cocktail glasses & wine glasses. We finally had to ask our young server to please refresh these and suggested she leave a bottle of water on our table like every other table in our vicinity. We paid our check and had dessert cocktails at the bar from a very vibrant and experienced bartender. We will definitely be back for another try in the hopes we won’t have to provide training for the staff!! A restaurant of this caliber needs to provide consistent service.

Consistently good on all counts. Server Olivia is efficient and delightful. Food is always wonderful, prices are realistic. The music last night was a bit less in the volume department and therefore made a nice backdrop for dinner. We hope that The Gateways dining experience stays this way. We will return.
