Overlooking the confluence of Spray and Bow Rivers, The Waldhaus. our "House in the Forest" is a retreat for those seeking solace from Banff's bustle. What began as the Clubhouse for the renowned Stanley Thompson Golf Course has transformed into a sanctuary of Mountain gastronomy. In the dining room above, rich timber and a majestic hearth narrate the epic tales of bygone explorations. Meanwhile, the Bierhalle below is where history and merriment collide, offering a spirited space for companionship, games, and the shared joy of storied adventures.

Please note:
- The Waldhaus is designated as a historical building and such has stairs to access all areas.
- The Bierhalle and Billardhalle only take limited reservations, otherwise operating on a first-come, first-served basis
- Regrettably the Waldhaus does not take reservations for its patio due to the unpredictability of mountain weather however, we will do our best to accommodate patio requests on a per case basis.

Roam Transit provided by the town of Banff runs approximately every 40 minutes to and from Town to the Fairmont Banff Springs. Enter through the Hotel's main doors proceeding down the hall past the Fairmont Spa and out the doors to your right. Continue down the pathway to the stairs on your left which will take you down to the Waldhaus.Bus Fare is $2.00 per person.

Unbelievable outdoor dining experience! Wonderful food, beautiful view. Perfect way to relax. The Black Forest cake was awesome.

Very nice food in a most attractive setting. The Waldhus is in a separate building behind the Banff Fairmont Hotel which can be reached by transfer from the hotel.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Waldhaus Restaurant in the Banff Springs Hotel, and it exceeded every expectation. Tucked away like a charming Alpine cottage, its rustic timber beams, stone hearth, and river views create an ambiance that’s cozy, elegant, and quintessentially mountain‑chic. Top‑notch service: Our server was an absolute delight—attentive without being intrusive, and full of thoughtful suggestions. When I hesitated between the bratwurst and schnitzel, they recommended pairing the bratwurst with a house mustard and a crisp German Riesling from the wine list. It was spot‑on—you could tell they knew the menu inside out. A Tripadvisor review echoes this: *“Our server guided us through pairing cheese fondue with wurst”—simple, effective, warm. Impressive wine list: The selection was diverse, featuring everything from bold German reds to delicate whites perfect for cheese and seafood dishes. We appreciated the varietal notes clearly indicated on the menu. It made choosing a wine feel less daunting and more like part of the experience. Fun fondue for kids and adults: Our family opted for the three‑course fondue experience, which was a huge hit. For the kids, dipping cubes of fresh bread, bratwurst, and veggies into bubbling Alpine cheese was pure entertainment (and so shareable!). As one review put it, “We loved the fondue! Our server guided us through.” The kids were thrilled, and us adults loved savoring the melty Gruyère blend with a glass of wine.

Good food, great drink, great service. We sat inside because the patio was closed due to rain, but both are so charming you can’t go wrong. There were several larger groups dining as well but it wasn’t too loud. The pub downstairs looked very pleasant as well.

Ate lunch at Waldhaus. Enjoyed the fondue and schnitzel. Excellent seasonal beers on tap. Service was also excellent!

Good food and great service. Thoroughly enjoyed the night. My only grumble would be quite confusing to get to if you are not sure where it is and on a rainy night you need a transfer from the hotel. Despite that did enjoy

Pleasant venue to have lunch. Patio seating provided beautiful views of spectacular scenery. Very pleasant, friendly server. Food was slow to come, but came out hot and generous servings. I would not really call this authentic Bavarian food. More of a bar menue with some Bavarian accents. Might have been it was summer, but dining room appeared closed and your options were patio or bar area. So pleasant meal, friendly service, spectacular views.
