The Waggon & Horses, situated on Great North Road, dates back to the early 1700s when it was originally two cottages, but has held a licence since before 1799! Here we serve delicious, traditional pub food from our seasonal menus, and we also have a great Sunday menu - perfect for treating the family! Lovely meal, staff were helpful, but the table booking caused confusion and they wanted us to sit outside, albeit it was an inside booking. They then requested we eat our puddings quickly as they had other customers. This let it down. The food was lovely though.

We were really looking forward to a meal here for Fathers Day weekend and booked a table for the Saturday lunchtime. We've eaten here on a few occasions previously and had a really good experience. Unfortunately this was not the case this time. We waited for 1.5 hours for food, which when it finally arrived after chasing (and being told it would 5-10mins then raking another 20mins) was wrong. Although waitress and manager apologised, I would have expected better quality food or the offer of a free meal as a gesture of good will. Food was still lukewarm when it arrived. We were told there was a lot of food orders in the kitxhen but the restaurant was very empty with most people sitting outside and many ordered food after us. Staff were unaware of the offer of a free pint for booked tables deapite being shown the website with the offer and still had to refer to management for clarity. Very disappointing visit.

I had the cod and chips from the Classic menu, the fish was lovely, the garden peas were like bullets and unfortunately the chips were soggy. Not the tastiest meal I’ve had there.

Whilst we chose the "Lunchtime Menu" & expect it to be smaller ..re the price..burger & fries...gammon & fries ..very nice...but steer clear of the "mini fish & chips"..there's a clue in the title.

I pleased you enjoyed the Burger and Gammon, I am sorry you found the fish and chips a little small, It is on our lunch time menu which includes a drink in the price. The landlord greeted us and had a chat with ball the guests. Staff very friendly.. food eas beautiful snd well priced. A lovely family meal out

We were told we could sit anywhere which was nice to have the option. On previous visits, it had always been table service but after sitting for a while with our menus, we approached the bar to ask to order which they straightaway helped with. My friends had the burger and drink deal where their drink was then £2 :) I had the loaded fries which were lovelyyyyy but the price was quite steep for the portion size. I also tried the mac and cheese side order - now this was lovely and for a side order the size was HUGE so was proper impressed with that

I booked online and chose the option for the regular menu as the vegetarian choice was poor on the Mother’s Day menu. When we got to the place they were only serving the mothers day 3 course meal. There was no apology and I felt mislead. We waited a long time for service. They had run out of the vegetarian starter. My vegetarian main course didn’t arrive, they sent over beef instead, which I had to send back. When the correct main came the pastry was rock hard, the contents of the pie were scorching hot and tasteless, the parsnips were hard and the potatoes were stale. The pudding was nice but we had to wait for the cutlery as they had run out and the cutlery were in the dishwasher. Overall the food was really poor, the service was really poor, the waitresses were miserable and there were no apologies for the bad food, poor choice and bad service. I would not recommend this place for food, it was a complete waste of money.
