Excellent overall as always Great drinks and entrees
Tonight's Thai chicken and carbonara were memorable. Excellent. Fun staff-warm and accommodating. A plus
Always a favorite of ours! We're always treated extremely well and the food has never disappointed us! Truly, a neighborhood gem!
Wonderful staff, great drinks, steak and pork loin
Even on a carb restricted diet a feast. Great place!!
Overall the food was very good at Waban Kitchen. Perfect roast chicken, flavorful sides, great fish fritters. Unfortunately, the bay window - an otherwise prime spot - was so cold that it became the dominant memory of the evening. That along with the kind of wait person who inserts herself into the table conversation, expressing an opinion about a movie under discussion. That said, pacing and attention by the wait person were actually very good.
Janice, Chris and Vicky are awesome. They make you feel right at home.
We dined here for Valentine's Day and the service plus food presentation was well below the super-premium pricing would lead us to expect. My friend ordered a fish special / entree which was insipid and my rib-eye was cold / lukewarm! When we asked them to take the rib-eye back for re-heating they brought it back a tad warmer given it would have spoiled the "medium" done-ness I had requested. Instead, they should have brought back another piece of meat at the right temperature. Appetizers were decent and the wines are also good. We love the "sister" restaurant to Waban kitchen but were very disappointed by this poor showing.
I usually love restaurants with an open kitchen - however, at Waban Kitchen there was so much scowling between the kitchen staff and the front of the house it was unbearable to watch! I was seated at one of the tables directly facing the kitchen, and all my husband and I saw was a young female chef scowling and another chef shouting at the servers. Our server wasn't the sharpest, so I could sort of see their pain - but mainly because it was written all over their face!! There didn't appear to be a manager anywhere that could bridge the gap between whatever conflict or resentments they had going on but it was AWKWARD!! Maybe they should put up a wall - because the food was excellent!
The food was terrific on this pre-Valentine's Day evening and the service was very good and personable. The tables are very close together; and the dining area can get really chilly when guests arrive and depart with the opening and closing of the door. I had to keep my scarf on for the duration of the meal but it was an exceptionally cold evening. We enjoyed our meal and will return!
The food was delicious and service very attentive. The only negative was the bar program, unoriginal and overly sweet cocktails. (A negroni, even a cranberry negroni shouldn't taste like a cosmo, and shouldn't come in a martini glass) Luckily the wine program is a solid alternative. Overall I would return.
I've been there many times, and have never been
disappointed. The menu changes with the season,
so there is always something new and exciting.
Server recommended that a vegetable we had picked would make a great appetizer to share and it was the perfect suggestion. Noise level is louder than I would have liked, but everything else is great. Loved the hake and its flavors and textures.
We were unable to get a table early, other than 5 pm. When we left at close to 6:30, there were still many tables available. The menu is limited, but if you want really healthy food, this isn't the place to go. That said I did have an unbelievable black bean soup. The mezze platter wasn't the best one I had every had.
Great specials. Creative chef
Always wonderful. Great food and staff!!!
I ordered the ribeye steak and it was likely the best steak I have ever had. A few weeks prior I visited a famous steakhouse and they were not even close. Great food.
3 years later and this place is still on fire. Jeff Fournier is always changing it up, with new menu items, creative flavors and a great staff. Their charcuterie and cheese plates are perfect starters, and from then you'll have a hard time choosing where to go from there....great appetizers, salads, and on this visit Jeff had a Chicken Bolognese, giving a nod to his traditional bolognese recipe that shows up from time to time.
My husband and I had a late dinner here on New Year's Eve. I had a leek and mushroom soup with a sprinkle of fresh coriander that was deeply flavorful, followed by gingered chicken on a bean puree -- also excellent. My husband enjoyed a beet and goat cheese salad followed by lobster risotto. The wait staff were very friendly, and the place felt homey. It was nice to be able to have a conversation without having to shout.
This was my second time here (the first time was fine) but this time the choices were limited and overpriced for what you got. My son and I both got the mushroom ragout and it was so salty we could not finish the meal. Our server was wonderful, helpful and patient but unfortunately that did not outweigh our experience. I see no need to return to this restaurant which is a shame as I am always in the market for my "go to" restaurant.
Consistently excelkent
This restaurant is a neighborhood gem. The food is creative and consistently very good. The
service is always professional, personable, and attentive. i drive 45 minutes into Waban to eat here.
The staff was overbearing and obnoxious. There was not one person we encountered who was not over-the-top. From the waitress who kept telling us what wine and entrees to order despite our lack of interest in her opinion, to the chef commenting on our dessert discussion, it was very intrusive and uncomfortable.
My husband and I love Waban Kitchen - the food is delicious and the service is friendly. We ate at the bar this time, and enjoyed learning about craft beers from our knowledgeable bartender. The kitchen accommodated my food allergies easily and creatively, giving me a delicious meal that I enjoyed thoroughly. My husband wasn't interested in alcohol so the bartender made up an original cocktail, sans alcohol, with lots of basil and sage. This restaurant looks upon requests as an opportunity for exercising their creativity. You can't beat that for fun and relaxation.
Always a very good meal. Always somewhat surprised how good it is. Tables are close and restaurant can get loud. Very attentive service without being annoying or over the top.
serves a need in it's location but as I Iive in Boston where there are better choices for the money I would only go here to meet someone who didn't want to deal with the hassle of the city.
I went with a few friends for a casual weeknight dinner and as usual, WK did not disappoint. I had an absolutely delicious entree of Cambodian Amok (Cod) that was cooked to perfection. I just love the whole cozy, casual and yummy vibe of this restaurant.
Great experience--food and service!
This was my third time at Waban Kitchen, and each time I come here im delighted. The food is excellent, the appetizers are superb, and the wine is fabulous. Highly recommended.
A nearly perfect meal! Great value. Great service ! Nuff said
I had dinner with 4 other women on a Tuesday night. We were very loud to start with as we hadn't seen each other in months and had much to talk about. We were greeted and seated right away and the waitress got us going on a cocktail list right away. The service was outstanding and we never felt rushed, although I know we hung around a bit more than they would have liked. The food - each dish was delicious. I had the blackened catfish and it was excellent. Light and full of flavor. The cocktails are original and they will make you just about anything you ask for. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Waban Kitchen offers a unique menu -- not your usual items -- and everything was as good as it sounded.
Overall great!
We've eaten at Waban kitchen about a half a dozen times and always enjoyed the quiet ambiance, service and food at tables inside and out. This weekend our party of four was put at the 8-person table at the back next to the open kitchen. This would be a really fun table if you wanted a boisterous raucous evening but wasn't so nice for a quiet dinner with friends. Be forewarned that they trea this table as two tables of four and you might get it against your stated objections.
Great service- ate at bar
Excellent food and drinks in a cozy atmosphere. Great Friday night out.
Just the right amount of attention with really great food. A little too noisy and the tables a little too close together.
We are usually never dissapointed at Waban Kitchen but the menu was not that inspiring that night and we know it changes all the time - we were sad to be on "miss" night !
Service and ambiance was as wonderful as ever but our food was not that impressive!
Always delicious- love the ceviche, any of the homemade pastas or fish. Servers are the best-always kind, welcoming and helpful. Great wine selections
It's a little restaurant but both the bar and the restaurant were busy on a recent weekend night. We craned our necks to see other's dinner orders. Everything looked great. Delicious small plates, flatbreads, curried chicken, whole fish. We really enjoyed each dish we ordered and from the looks of the empty plates at surrounding tables, so did everyone else.
We had a great dinner overall, but our waitress was so pushy that it detracted from the experience. She was constantly trying to push up the bill with more food and my wife tried to change her drink order and the waitress said no you want the first drink.
Waban Kitchen continues to impress, with creative menu, fresh foods, and sharp educated staff.
Jeff Fournier, of 51 Lincoln fame, has done it again with this local neighborhood gem.
