Perfect place for a date night! Happy hour was worth showing up early (5pm-6pm)
Traditional Japanese restaurant with excellent food and service.
Great but expensive! sushi - once we received it, which took more than 2 hours. The restaurant is obviously poorly managed. Understaffed wait staff and sushi bar on a busy Friday night, wrong food sent out, table next to us got an extra roll while we waited for ours. Gave 3 stars on overall value, but it’s worse than that. Won’t be back.
Fish tasted too fishy. We did Omakase and after course 3 we waited for almost 30 minutes before asking for the check. They barely gave us a discount. The food was brought out before they even brought us water at the beginning and said they ran out of lime when we saw someone with lime in their drink a few minutes later. Terrible service.
Really nice place. Very authentic. The service was most outstanding and gracious and the food was great. Also has their three Sake sampler to go with our meal...s. Wonderful tasty, fresh food, beautifully displayed.
Wa Kubota is a winner.
My husband and I both had the omakase, which is seven courses. It is a new feature for them and they are still fine tuning it. I will say at $75 pp we certainly got our money's worth. In fact, it was so much food we could not finish it all when the final nigiri course was brought out. I think they likely will make adjustments. The service was very good and attentive. The atmosphere and design of the restaurant is very nice. And, most importantly, the sashimi and nigiri were stellar. You can definitely tell a difference in fish quality from 'standard' sushi restaurants and high-end ones such as Wa Kubota. And of course, quality does come at a price. But, for Plano, I believe the prices are too high. Price per ONE piece of nigiri ranges from $10-$20. We spent what a couple might spend at Uchi in Dallas (we would not have left Uchi as full though). But for a place in the suburbs, aside from the Toyota business crowd, I don't know that they will get many people to pay those prices- as was evidenced by the fact that aside from a business group and one other diner, we were the only ones there. Shumi Omakase is very close by, also very good quality, but more modestly priced. All that being said, it was excellent and I certainly recommend it, just be prepared to pay a premium.
Great Japanese food as usual!
Dear Lovely Guest, Thank you so much for sharing your opinion & 5-star review with everyone here! We really appreciate it & hope to continue to deliver the same, excellent service & authentic foods again to you in the near future. We really appreciate it : ) ありがとうございました！ The Wa Kubota Team
Second time to eat here.....Service was disappointing.
They charged $57 for a glass of sake and I didn’t know about it till the bill came!! I felt robbed.
Service was slow since the restaurant was very under-staffed. We waited up front for several minutes before someone surfaced to greet us. The sushi was good, but some items were very overpriced ($10 for 2 pieces of nigiri). Doubtful to return.
Great sushi and more options than everything crab, like most sushi places.
Japanese beer on draft too! Cold mugs is alway a plus!
Excellent, as always. Fish is fresh, sashimi is beautifuly prepared, the rolls have the right proportion of fish to rice, and the staff is excellent.
Very nice! Execellent service, great ambiance, and very good food.
Exceptional service and outstanding food.
Always good! An authentic Japanese restaurant in Plano.
Wa Kubota is rapidly becoming my favourite Japanese restaurant in the area, it offer an interesting sample of Japanese cuisine beside sushi/sashimi. Every time I try something new that other Japanese place here simply don't offer.
Had to wait for a few mins before we sat down when the restaurant wasn’t that busy and had some open tables. We had a reservation. Food for other tables were delivered to us twice.
We participated in a Japanese Tea Ceremony that was being performed during our dinner which made the dining experience extra special!
Excellent alternative to going all the way downtown (Dallas) to get expertly crafted yet rustic Japanese comfort food items.
Very authentic Japanese food. Great atmosphere. Staff was very nice but a little bit slow. Fish was super fresh! So glad to find new Japanese spot!
Service was super slow though the place wasnt crowded, the fish wasnt fillet as requested. Language barrier needs to be addressed.
Thank you so much. The dinner was wonderful.
Consistently uber fresh fish offerings for sashimi keep us coming back frequently. The Japanese staff are friendly and welcoming, and seeing native diners reinforces our opinion of the authenticity.
Many places have fresh chilled fish with little flavor because they have been frozen, but here you will taste every nuance of the different fish indicating their freshness. Grilled fish is also excellent. Fried offerings are so so.
There are many Japanese restaurants in the DFW area, BUT not many sushi bars with Japanese chefs.
COME HERE FOR THE FRESH FISH!!!
Much Overpriced, and not really that good..I was hoping we had finally found a good authentic Japanese restaurant in Texas. From what we could tell it was authentic, just not very flavorful.
Did not think the food and atmosphere was worth the price. Near $20 for just one of any of the good sushi rolls. I ended up not needing the reservation - there were very few people there, on a Saturday evening. Food was good, I just wasn't impressed.
Great service and food! This is my third trip and whenever I am in the area I will return most definitely.
Great authentic Japanese food as usual!
Went again twice recently, and have been very disappointed in the restaurant. The menu has mostly changed. Most of the pricier items, Wagyu beef, Yosenabe, even fresh Wasabi (using poor unrecognizable substitute) are now off the menu. The woman manager was argumentative and not providing forthright answers to questions about menu items. This used to be one of my favorites and it is no more. Pity.
The best authentic Japanese restaurant in Plano area.
The great experience started at the door. We decided to have dinner after a errand. We chose Wa because it was close and we had mentioned that we would like to try it some day. We were not disappointed. Although there were lots of well dressed business dinners and special occasions happening, we were greeted warmly in our shorts and jeans. We asked to sit at the bar but were warmly welcomed at their beautiful, well stocked sushi bar. The wine list is small but well stocked, there are quite a few Japanese drinks to start with! And they are very good. We had sushi and salad as a light dinner. It was fresh. Beautifully presented and tasted so very good. One day we will go back for a full special occasion dinner. It is a small and intimate restaurant that is quiet. The sushi bar did have a TV with sports on but the restaurant itself was perfect If you want a quiet meal. They also have very nice small private dining rooms that look to seat 8 comfortably. Enjoy.
Restaurant had very nice ambiance and atmosphere. The food was very fresh and excellent in taste. Portions were good for fine dining price. Highly recommend for those who love sushi and acquired tastes. Suggested for romantic nights, dating, business meetings and special events. Our server, Maria N., was very professional, courteous and genuine in her display of customer service. She was very observant as my drinks never got empty. Pricing is reasonable and I suggest booking reservation on opentable. (Optional) Restroom was clean and even had electronic toilet with dryer feature. will definitely visit again and mark as one of my top 10 restaurants for sushi in plano area. ENJOY!!!
Took very long to get our kitchen dishes served, but sushi was served pretty fast! Foods are great Authentic Japanese food!
Very good food, like eating the quality food in Japan. Great Japanese ambiance, friendly.
