We came to Volver on Valentine's Day and were excited to try their tasting menu. It started strong with delicious cocktails and the first course, but went down hill from there. The second drink took incredibly long to be delivered. They said they needed to get an egg from somewhere, but only one of the drinks needed the egg. The egg drink then arrived before the other drink, both of which took at least 10, maybe 15 minutes to be made. We asked for sparkling water at the start of dinner which was then watered down with still at each subsequent refill. The courses were initially spaced out well and then it really dragged. We were exhausted and so ready to get out of there. They forgot our dessert and left us sitting there for about 20 minutes before the server asked us if everything was ok and we reminded her. What an expensive meal for mediocre food and below average service. Disappointed.
Pre-concert (Valentine’s Day) fixed price menu for 6 pm reservation. Regular menu started at 7 pm (which we did not know). Liked it enough that we’ll go back to check out the regular menu.
Certainly has the best chef's tasting menu we have ever had. Our server, Allison, was very sweet and attentive and the General Manager, Dae, made the experience even better with his hospitality. Truly a restaurant that cares about the guests and provides such phenomenal food. Will return!
Nice that it is next to the theater, able to have dinner and walk.
We chose Volvér for our 2 year anniversary. It was wonderful- Ashley was sweet, efficient and helpful when making our dining selections. I had the rainbow trout and it was amazing- nothing that I ever experienced. My husband had the chicken dish- we both enjoyed dessert. I had pistachio cake and my husband enjoyed a peanut butter torte. Everything was perfect. I decided to try an nonalcoholic drink which was also delicious (rosemary and lemon). We were so impressed that we found several Jose Garces restaurants in Atlantic City that we are going to try!!! Can’t wait to return to Volvér for our next anniversary dinner. Worth the trip!
Volver was a great choice and excellent value for a prix fixe dinner on a rainy night before a concert at the Kimmel. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, the service was outstanding and the food was very good - though quite rich, in a French style. Highlights of our meal included the winter lettuce salad, french onion soup and trout. Though we just had wine, the cocktails looked inventive and were well priced.
Pleasant setting, modest food quality, modest value
Restaurant was empty on a Friday night at 8 pm. We should have walked out but decided to give it a chance - ordered 3 small plates and each one was horrendous. Food was tasteless and felt like it was stale. Upon telling the manager how disappointed we were with the food, all he said was “not everything is for everyone” and handed our card back and said good night. We were hoping he’d ask to see how he could make the experience better (Like any other manager would) but guess not. Probably the worst dining experience in philly.
Great service, delicious pre theatre menu. Don't miss it.
Among the very best restaurants we've been to during our many decades of going to the Phila. Orchestra concerts.
The food was surprisingly good and the service was excellent. I think our server’s name was Anna and she was attentive. The flat bread was absolutely delicious, as was the chicken and onion soup. The only recommendations I have is to improve the dessert selection and also offer decaf cappuccino. Otherwise, quite enjoyable.
Very convenient to activities at the Kimmel Center.
Good menu, good food and reasonably priced.
Overall . deserves a visit.
Trout, chicken entrees; mixed lettuces salad; tempranillo; luscious dessert in pleasant atmosphere with VG service. What's to complain? First time experience here and happily rewarded. Will definitely return and definitely recommend without reservation [or with :)].
Absolutely loved the experience!
This place is remarkable. It is understated elegance. I love the combination of warmth and extraordinary food. You need to order the onion soup — the presentation is like none other. Needless to say, it is also excellent! Rainbow trout: mouth watering. I can’t wait to return.
Every dish was outstanding !!!
Will definetly be back !
Truly awful service. We went to Volver around 10 times last 2018/2019 orchestra season at the Kimmel center and we were always very happy. But this 2019/2020, it has been a disaster after another in terms of service.
Two weeks ago, we nearly missed our concert (despite having told the waitress when we seated at 6.30 about the 7.30 concert start and asked for the pre-theater menu; even in normal dinners I can usually can get my courses in 55 minutes without much problems).
But last Thursday was just plain shameful.
This was the poorest service ever experienced in any restaurant I have dined in. We ordered the prefix menu as we were headed to the orchestra. We had allowed 1hour and 30 minutes to dine and never even had the dessert which was part of the prefix. Please do not recommend this restaurant.
Super location for Kimmel Centre and good pre theatre menu
Great dinner! Staff was very attentive! . wonderful experience for pr-theater!
Sad to see the downward slide of this once trailblazing restaurant.
Food: The food was mediocre. Nothing creative or imaginative. Just basic.
Ambiance :Lights so bright it felt like 12 noon
No interest in returning.
We enjoyed our delicious dinner at Volver. We ordered the prix fixe menu and were very impressed with the selections and food quality. The menu was a special French design. My partner ordered the lettuce salad with champagne dressing as a starter, and rainbow trout for a main dish, and cleaned both plates. I chose the onion soup as a starter, and it was quite sumptuous, with a base of gruyere cheese and sourdough. My main dish were the beef tournedos, which I asked to be cooked medium-well, and they were superbly done. Our desserts, pumpkin puff and pistachio mousse, were delicately flavored and perfect accompaniments. Our young server was efficient but not overly attentive. We found the very small tables and low seats to be rather intimate and perhaps more suited to a club than a fine restaurant. Volver is a great pre-theater choice and because of the excellent food, we would definitely return.
Overall, an amazing meal and experience. Only little complaint was the restaurant got quite warm throughout dinner which was odd because the are around us emptied out while we ate. We were in the back area where we could see the kitchen. Thanks.
We enjoyed the attention we received from the Manager and our Server. We were glad we had an early reservation since the restaurant became very noisy after it started to fill up. The food was fantastic and the pre-fix menu was a bargain. We will return to Volver soon. Also the closeness to the Miriam Webster and the Kimmel Center Theaters is a real plus.
This was our first time dining at Volver. We came during Restaurant Week but were pleasantly surprised to learn of the "Theater Menu" for $35.00 from 5:00-6:30 pm daily. The 3 courses my husband and I had were all very delicious. We will definitely return!
We had tickets for a show at the Kimmel so we decided to try Volver. We went during restaurant week so of course the menu was limited. There were 3 of us and we all tried a different appetizer and entree. Every one was so superb and delicious. My trout was the best I have ever had..the flavors were heavenly. My daughter had a chicken dish...it was so moist and full of flavor. My sister had the squash gnocchis...again, just superb! Our desserts were very good too..we wanted to lick pit plates! We are excited for the next show and plan on dining here again.
I planned a special evening for out of town family members and wanted to introduce them to Volver’s fine dining. Our dining experience was a complete success, from the great appetizers of French onion soup, crudo and salad, to steak, amazing chicken and fish. Our cocktails were perfect and service exceptional! A delightful celebration; my discerning family wants to return. The desserts are spot-on delicious and never overly sweet!
We enjoyed: Wine, food, service...trout with lentils was fantastic. Gnocchi was very, very good.
We enjoyed sitting in the lounge less. Last time, we were in the actual dining room (near the kitchen), and could people watch much more effectively. We were able to enjoy our meal, but felt hidden away, like the restaurant's dirty little secrets.
Next time we'd like to see: a chocolate dessert option.
All in all, the highlight of restaurant week, due to less dense crowds, and very good food.
I recently dined here and had the pleasure of experiencing the tasting menu. From the first course to the last, every bite was amazing and meaningful. The sauces that paired along with the peekytoe crab beignets to the amazing cream sauce that accompanied the Japanese snapper. Not only was the food superb, but also the service. Daye, the GM, was especially outstanding. Explaining most of the courses that came out along with what wine pairings that would go well with the dishes. 10/10 would come back just for his hospitality. Ambiance and interior were also excellent except I would have liked the lights near the kitchen side to be a bit dimmer. Still, I would come back to dine here. Wonderful experience.
The service was great. They were able to get us in ahead of our reserved time. Food was good but we weren’t “wow” by it. Keep in mind it was also restaurant week. Maybe we’ll go back one day to explore the regular menu.
I went for restaurant week, making it the third time I’m dinning there. My previous restaurant week experience and their theater menu experience was much better, the dishes was better crafted. It might be that I don’t adore the current seasonal menu as their previous menus.
We went to Volver for Restaurant Week and will happily return! Superb food and outstanding service.
We enjoyed the Volver pre-theater menu before a performance at the Academy of Music. The service was quick. The food and atmosphere were excellent, and the location central to many of the city's leading performance venues. It was a real treat to enjoy a fantastic meal in a little over an hour, a five minute walk from the performance.
Volver is a haven from the hustle and bustle of the city; refined and elegant, very good food. I had the salad , which is decadent and healthy as well as the amazing chicken which was simply decadent and delicious! My friend had the tartine for starter as well as the chicken...loved both! Dessert was light and delicious chocolate mousse/cake combination. An excellent Manhattan and a fine rose’ rounded out the dinner. Service was professional and personal. Will be going back soon!
Took my girlfriend here for her birthday. Staff, food, and drinks were all excellent and at prices you would expect to see in cc Philly. Will absolutely be coming back.
The coq a bier was absolutely fantastic. Perfectly crispy churn bread on the chicken breast, fall-of-the-bone delicious chicken leg, and the most delicious gravy. Perfect.
Dinner before the show. This is becoming our favorite go to restaurant. Food and service are excellent. Ordered the 3 course dinner and portions were perfect and very tasty. Sat in the “dining area” which is fun to watch the chefs cooking and preparing the meals.
Staff was great as we went after an evening with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Food was excellent!
Overall great dinner, but music and odd mechanical noises made us want to get done as soon as possible.
