We were attending the theater and selected Volver for our pre theater meal and everyone we came into contact with provided customer service over and above our expectations. We will return the next time we attend an event in the future.
I have been to Volver before and enjoyed the previous experiences. This time we had to wait about 15 minutes while they prepared our table. Expecting to go into the dining area, we were instead led to the bar where they set 2 low round tables pushed together for us. When I asked to be seated at the dining room like civilized people, the hostess told us that was not possible because of diners lingering. This is unacceptable for a restaurant with high aspirations, and I have a feeling from reading some of the negative reviews below that perhaps service had been slow. For that I blame management. We walked out and went to another restaurant instead.
Excellent food, including exotic dishes. We had the Pre-Theatre Dinner prior to seeing "Judy Collins Sings Sondheim" at the Merriam. The wait staff were excellent. My only concern was that something in the kitchen was causing slow delivery of food. The food was well worth the wait, but when you have tickets...
Volver has awonderful selection. I ordered the tasting menu. The stars of this selection were hummus.
Tabouleh with red lintel falafel that was very tasteful and accented with caraway aiole. The wagu skirt steak was perfectly paired with chantarelles. The service was excellent I felt more like a guest than a customer
Pretty much the #1 place for a meal before a concert at the Kimmel Center. While somewhat pricey, the food is delicious, they have pre-concert timing down perfectly and the menu changes often so folks with season tickets won't get bored.
The service and atmosphere at Volver is very good as well as the presentation of the food. However, I feel the taste of the food is sub-par given the price point. I had the lobster veracruz. The lobster was tough and the main course, the vegetarian main course, was dry and needed a sauce with it. I also wish the restaurant offered bread with the meal. The cocktails were excellent, but I would not return since the food was so disappointing.
Love the Prix Fixe....and the wine list is extensive and fine. Our waitperson was terrific, being considerate of us going to a performance soon after.
Pleasant server. Tasty food. Extremely slow kitchen. Allow plenty of time if dining pre-theater.
We usually go to Volver when we go to the Kimmel and we have never been disappointed. Dining partner and I shared the Caprese Salad which had the most luscious buffalo mozzarella! Orange tomatoes were sweet and delicious. Dining partner had Trout Meuniere with lentils. Trout was a tiny bit overcooked, but was delicious regardless. I had the Duck Breast with polenta and asparagus and it was perfectly cooked and excellent. For dessert we shared the Cocoa Choux--two delicious spheres of chocolate cake filled with delicious creamy choux. Fantastic! Drinks were excellent and well prepared. Staff were very sensitive to dining partner's allergies and even though they know the menu very well, they had no problem checking with the chef to be sure there were no allergens in her order.
Great dinner. Wonderful service. We’ll be back!
Good food, but over salted for our pallets. Each course combined produced many times the salt we normally intake daily. The food was nicely prepared, though and the portions were excellent.
Super nice server, manager very attentive and thoughtful touches to the meal
Coming on Restaurant Week was a delightful surprise. Wish it occurred more often!
Lose the 90’s vibe of oversized plates and tiny portions. Left hungry and I’m not a big eater. Went to Wawa after for wraps.
Beautiful space complimented by innovative and delicious kitchen creations.
The foods were all very soft and mushy texturally. My favorite course was the scallops paired with the champagne. I could have eaten a whole serving of that and skipped most of the others. It was interesting but not worth the price.
Food was amazing along with presentation. Would definitely come back again!
We thoroughly enjoyed my birthday celebration on Saturday night. The food is very attractive and creative; and delicious! However, the portions are (appropriately?) small; nonetheless, from app to dessert, we enjoyed the food. Thanks to Volver for accommodating me and my wheelchair; and to Stephanie for her quick, friendly and efficient service.
This was a very mixed experience during restaurant week. The menu read very well, with interesting dishes.
About half the dishes came out well, and half did not. The single drink was poor. Most of the dishes were attractive in appearance, although the vegetables cut for dipping into the pea hummous dish had clearly sat out way too long. One server was attentive and thoughtful, and apologetic for the mysterious delays in the kitchen (despite a not completely full dining room). Another server was not just abrupt and cavalier but falsely said that our food was being plated when it was clearly nowhere near being plated as the continued delay revealed. The restaurant recognized our complaints and took one meal and drink off the menu. So, all in all, it's hard to know what to think. Something was clearly off in the kitchen and something was clearly off in the staffing. Was that atypical?
Went during big restaurant week. The server was very good. Friendly and explained the menu and recommended cocktails. The food was delicious. Only complaint is we left and stopped g for a slice of pizza on the way home. The portions were small. No bread or sides. It was almost like having two hors d’oeuvres. But again they were delicious. We spent $145 and left hungry.
Finally being managed properly.
Wonderful experience. Our server Summer was extremely detailed and precise in every course that she served. All the staff were very attentive. Definitely will recommend!!
My wife and I had an awesome time for dinner. The service and especially the general manager was outstanding. We look forward to returning.
Fantastic experience from the confirmation call with GM, check in, bartender and wait staff! The GM/staff were attentive/accommodating! The food was delicious! ✌️✌️✌️
Excellent restaurant with a great price fixe menu. The servers were attentive and pleasant. Food quality was outstanding with interesting offerings. Portions were on the small side, but not too small. A great spot for pre-show dinner near the Kimmel Center
Very pleasing atmosphere. I and my now wife came back for an anniversary dinner and enjoyed every part of the meal and service!
This was the first time I ever had a bad experience in a Garces restaurant. There was a large private party at the bar when we arrived for a 6 pm reservation. The staff was entirely busy taking care of them and we were ignored until they moved to the private dining room by 6:30. Then they brought us drinks, but didn't come back for about 1/2 hour to take our orders. After that we waited and waited for our first course to arrive, which turned out to be a joke - some watery broth that tasted like asparagus. One of us ordered a salad, which was a much better choice, ample in size and good. Then we waited and waited again for the second course, which was also a major disappointment for 2 of us who ordered duck. The duck was good, but the portion was small and there was almost nothing served with it. The only thing that was good was the dessert. All 4 us left hungry and aggravated at 8 pm. Clearly, there was not enough staff to accommodate the large party, which took preference over the few other people in the bar area where we were seated. The manager apologized and thanked us for out patience, but no reduction in the bill was offered to compensate. We were celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary, so this was especially bad. I will never go back there again.
Service was great! Food was tasty with attractive presentation.
Nice place to meet and eat. Server attentive but totally overworked. Not enough servers and he couldn't keep up-he did his best. Beautiful food.
Highly recommend. Food is innovative and executed to perfection. Milk and cereal is an example of outside the box culinary thinking. Overall great value for anyone without the high prices and pretense of most highly rated restraints.
Definite WOW!! We had one of the best meals in Philly and we have eaten at a lot of Philly restaurants. Could not believe the complexity and balance of the flavors. Appetizers were the Green Salad and Milk and Cereal. The Green Salad was fresh and crisp and the Milk and Cereal were amazing (a hot soup with bacon and chicken in a cream sauce). Both were excellent. The Crispy Lamb Chops were combined with Hearts of Palm, Dates, Squid, Peppers, and a sweet soy vinaigrette. Some of the best lamb I've had in a while. The Duck Breast was moist and served with a buckwheat crepe with some melon. Highly recommend this place and cannot wait till they move off their summer menu. Right now expect limited choices, but know that they will be excellent. The service was excellent and since we were not in a rush to eat and run we asked the server to pace our meal. Which they did based on our direction. We will definitely be going back to this hidden gem located at the Kimmel Center.
The service went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. The food was phenomenal and a great price- $39 for 3 excellent courses. Great atmosphere.
The atmosphere was amazing! The service was amazing. The food was amazing!
Great experience! Came with my wife for our anniversary, had the tasting menu - everything on it was delicious, particularly liked the "milk & cereal" and the halibut. Quiet night because week of July 4th, but we were much happier to be at Volvér instead of the shore!
Did not care for the 80’s music played at a loud level. Food is great, service could not be better.
Overall a great night.
Service was inattentive & slow - very disappointing!
Volver getting better all the time!
As a frequent diner in Philadelphia ‘s many outstanding restaurants, Volver is always special because of the relaxing ambiance, great food and cocktails. Its location in the Kimmel Center makes it a favorite spot to meet friends before a concert.
This dinner was a pleasure: a sampling of appetizers and a very special Manhattan kicked off our evening, followed by perfectly grilled lamb chops and egg custard dessert. Service was wonderful, with serious management presence ensuring smooth service.
Volver has lost its way. Uninspired food doesn't make up for a drop in price for the tasting menu. Go elsewhere.
nice setting, prior to theater. Good menu selection
Great food. We ordered off the pre fixe theatre menu ($35 per person). All of our food was excellent but the portions were very small. Drinks were pricey including $5 for a cup of coffee.
