The experience was far less than expected. We were seated next to a very busy bar, service was slow and spotty. Before we finished our entrees, the staff cleared the bar area for a later gathering; moving chairs and tables as we ate. The food was good, but not 'Iron Chef Worthy'. The menu choices were very small and one entree was not available.
Excellent service and food—really cool unique cocktails. The manager Dave was particularly warm and helpful to us with excellent pairings. The space itself is hip and beautiful. We are looking forward to returning.
Pre-theater menu is quite delicious and a great value. Food is outstanding!
We did the pre-theatre dinner and the food completely exceeded my expectations. We had the rainbow trout and beef tournedos and they were both fantastic dishes. Service was attentive and on point. Not intrusive nor ever rushed but always timely.
everything about this place was amazing! The food was phenomenal, the service was excellent and the whole atmosphere was energetic but not loud and obnoxious. The manager stopped by several times to check in and bring us parts of our order. He was super pleasant and he told us about the chef's 8 course tasting menu that starts after 7pm which we will definitely be going back to try. We will definitely be dining here again!
It was quite crowded when we got there at 7 pm, since there were a lot of pre-theater diners. But it quieted down and was more enjoyable after they left. The food was interesting and very good. For me the highlight was the Manager who was happy to discuss each of the dishes and the wines with us, and who was actually quite funny.
Making the reservation on Open Table was a challenge for a non-computer-friendly 88 year old. It was reassuring to finally talk to a real person.
The rainbow trout was perfect -- crispy skin, cooked to perfection, nice chimichurri-ish
sauce. Not crazy about the milk solids garnish. They substituted potatoes for the menu-listed
lentils, with no problem. Salad was exceptional -- lots of fresh greens and little surprises like very thin apples, tiny bits of cheese, and slim ?jicama? Tasty champagne vinaigrette. Dessert was disappointing -- pistachio marjolaine was too much work for what resulted; did not taste pistachio. Brulee was overdone, so it was charcoal rather than melted sugar. Roquefort cream was a weird dessert choice and didn't like it. Sam was very accommodating, and offered to substitute dessert. Service was good and ambiance was lovely. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and plan to return.
Delicious food, attentive service. High tables with low chairs made me feel a bit like a kid at the grown-up's table, but otherwise, everything was perfect. The raspberry marjolaine, and especially the blue cheese mousse served with it, were to die for. Very conveniently located INSIDE the Kimmel Center, it's a perfect place for pre-theatre dining. I don't get to Philadelphia all that often, but will definitely be back here when I'm in Philly again.
Eating at Volver was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences i have had in a very long time. My husband and I had tickets for that evening's performance at the Kimmel Center and so we partook of the pre-theater menu. There wasn't too much of a choice but the food was just out of this world. My husband had the French Onion soup and he said that it was more delicious than any he has had even in Europe. The entree was great too and the dessert was ravishing! I was most impressed by how moderate the price was and how filling the portions! Last but not least, the cocktails we had were to die for!
We booked far enough in advance and drive up from DC for a special date night. We arrived quite early and were escorted to the bar where we enjoyed a few drinks. Our reservation time came and went. After 15 minutes I checked back into the front desk and was met with a blank look. She said they were bussing our table and it would be a few minutes. We expected to be seated in the main dining room instead were seated right in the bar near where we had been seated for more than an hour! We were disappointed and pretty upset. We would have just eaten at the bar. The manager tried to make things right with a free wine and appetizer but the damage had already been done. Then we discovered that the only vegetarian dish which appeared in the online menu had been changed to pasta which my husband will not eat. All in all it a great experience. My advice is to just have drinks and appetizers and move on to another place for dinner. I know that special food preferences must be requested ahead of time. I also know if you want to sit at a table near the kitchen we
Must request that. I understand that now.
Pre-dinner for show at Academy. All was wonderfully prepared and presentation was excellent. The glass wall fronts on Spruce Street puts you right in the evening’s excitement.
We dined pre-theater (off the regular menu) and really enjoyed our experience. Our server, Stephanie, was friendly and helpful in making our selections. The rose gold was a nice cocktail for my wife to start our evening. Each of the dishes we tried was delicious including the lobster quenelles, crudo, lamb chops and the trout. The two desserts we tried, the St. Honore and the pistachio Marjolaine, were good choices. All the years we've been to the Academy, this was our first visit to Volver. It won't be our last.
Beautiful restaurant and great service! The food was delicious and very rich (read very salty and very buttery). It's a great place to go before the theater at the Kimmel.
It's worth the splurge. Chef's tasting menu with the wine pairings! Just perfect.
My husband and I travel the world for food. We are local in philly and stumbled upon this place. The food is absolutely amazing! It impressed us so much, I’m already planning my next visit!
The GM is extremely friendly, and the drinks are delicious! I highly recommend this for a date night or special occasion! The restaurant is cute, and the kitchen high top seating looks like a fun experience!
The atmosphere, the food, the staff were all excellent. The staff was attentive and not in the way. They wanted to be sure we had a great experience.
Unfortunately the “General manager” ruined what would have been a perfect dining experience by entertaining his own guest next to our table. He stood over us the entire meal entertaining his guest. If you’re going to do that you should seat your guest in an area that doesn’t affect other guest or pull up a chair and sit with your guest.
Before symphony dining. What a pleasure. Food is delicious and it is perfectly located at the Kimmel
We came to Volver on Valentine's Day and were excited to try their tasting menu. It started strong with delicious cocktails and the first course, but went down hill from there. The second drink took incredibly long to be delivered. They said they needed to get an egg from somewhere, but only one of the drinks needed the egg. The egg drink then arrived before the other drink, both of which took at least 10, maybe 15 minutes to be made. We asked for sparkling water at the start of dinner which was then watered down with still at each subsequent refill. The courses were initially spaced out well and then it really dragged. We were exhausted and so ready to get out of there. They forgot our dessert and left us sitting there for about 20 minutes before the server asked us if everything was ok and we reminded her. What an expensive meal for mediocre food and below average service. Disappointed.
Pre-concert (Valentine’s Day) fixed price menu for 6 pm reservation. Regular menu started at 7 pm (which we did not know). Liked it enough that we’ll go back to check out the regular menu.
Certainly has the best chef's tasting menu we have ever had. Our server, Allison, was very sweet and attentive and the General Manager, Dae, made the experience even better with his hospitality. Truly a restaurant that cares about the guests and provides such phenomenal food. Will return!
Nice that it is next to the theater, able to have dinner and walk.
We chose Volvér for our 2 year anniversary. It was wonderful- Ashley was sweet, efficient and helpful when making our dining selections. I had the rainbow trout and it was amazing- nothing that I ever experienced. My husband had the chicken dish- we both enjoyed dessert. I had pistachio cake and my husband enjoyed a peanut butter torte. Everything was perfect. I decided to try an nonalcoholic drink which was also delicious (rosemary and lemon). We were so impressed that we found several Jose Garces restaurants in Atlantic City that we are going to try!!! Can’t wait to return to Volvér for our next anniversary dinner. Worth the trip!
Volver was a great choice and excellent value for a prix fixe dinner on a rainy night before a concert at the Kimmel. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, the service was outstanding and the food was very good - though quite rich, in a French style. Highlights of our meal included the winter lettuce salad, french onion soup and trout. Though we just had wine, the cocktails looked inventive and were well priced.
Pleasant setting, modest food quality, modest value
Restaurant was empty on a Friday night at 8 pm. We should have walked out but decided to give it a chance - ordered 3 small plates and each one was horrendous. Food was tasteless and felt like it was stale. Upon telling the manager how disappointed we were with the food, all he said was “not everything is for everyone” and handed our card back and said good night. We were hoping he’d ask to see how he could make the experience better (Like any other manager would) but guess not. Probably the worst dining experience in philly.
Great service, delicious pre theatre menu. Don't miss it.
Among the very best restaurants we've been to during our many decades of going to the Phila. Orchestra concerts.
The food was surprisingly good and the service was excellent. I think our server’s name was Anna and she was attentive. The flat bread was absolutely delicious, as was the chicken and onion soup. The only recommendations I have is to improve the dessert selection and also offer decaf cappuccino. Otherwise, quite enjoyable.
Very convenient to activities at the Kimmel Center.
Good menu, good food and reasonably priced.
Overall . deserves a visit.
Trout, chicken entrees; mixed lettuces salad; tempranillo; luscious dessert in pleasant atmosphere with VG service. What's to complain? First time experience here and happily rewarded. Will definitely return and definitely recommend without reservation [or with :)].
Absolutely loved the experience!
This place is remarkable. It is understated elegance. I love the combination of warmth and extraordinary food. You need to order the onion soup — the presentation is like none other. Needless to say, it is also excellent! Rainbow trout: mouth watering. I can’t wait to return.
Every dish was outstanding !!!
Will definetly be back !
Truly awful service. We went to Volver around 10 times last 2018/2019 orchestra season at the Kimmel center and we were always very happy. But this 2019/2020, it has been a disaster after another in terms of service.
Two weeks ago, we nearly missed our concert (despite having told the waitress when we seated at 6.30 about the 7.30 concert start and asked for the pre-theater menu; even in normal dinners I can usually can get my courses in 55 minutes without much problems).
But last Thursday was just plain shameful.
This was the poorest service ever experienced in any restaurant I have dined in. We ordered the prefix menu as we were headed to the orchestra. We had allowed 1hour and 30 minutes to dine and never even had the dessert which was part of the prefix. Please do not recommend this restaurant.
Super location for Kimmel Centre and good pre theatre menu
Great dinner! Staff was very attentive! . wonderful experience for pr-theater!
Sad to see the downward slide of this once trailblazing restaurant.
Food: The food was mediocre. Nothing creative or imaginative. Just basic.
Ambiance :Lights so bright it felt like 12 noon
No interest in returning.
