Our Pre-Theater menu is available Tuesday - Saturday from 5 pm until 7 pm
3 course pre fix pre theater menu was enjoyable and well presented.. but a word if caution....it is VERY light so be prepared to go out to eat after theater...
Lovely. Great food. Lamb sliders, shrimp toast to die for.
Made a reservation and was surprised when we got there on a friday night at 8:00 and the place was empty. Ending up sitting at the bar and enjoyed tuna tar tar and lamb chops. Both were very good and the server was very attentive and friendly.
I suspect when there is an event at the Kimmel center the place is packed!
would definately return
Volver: When we arrived we were the only table in the main room, so I figured we'd get incredible service and attention. The start of the meal was super slow. We did take our time ordering drinks but our water didn't even really help us out, just waited around. He didn't go over the tasting menu (which we had to ask for) or over any of the tasting menu dishes but our waiter didn't seem proactive to explain the tasting menu or their cocktails or even offered us the wine-pairing/juice pairing. Super disappointed and missed opportunity to do the wine pairing. No upsell.
Even if we didn't want the pairing, he could have suggested some wines that go with courses but when I asked him about a few, he and even his counterpart, she also didn't know much about their high-margin wine.
He and the other staff did seem to pay more attention to the 4 top Caucasian couple (Parents and their adult children) that seemed dressed for theater vs. 2 Indian local physicians who were having a business meal. I've seen this happen before where they judge amount expected to spend beforehand. We got the tasting menu too!
Both staff seemed low energy for a table throwing down $250 minimum for a dinner. I've had fast-casual places be more enthusiastic. I was nervous to eat here because I just read about owner Jose Garces financial troubles and mounting debt. Now I can see why. Volver is still relishing on their laurels and have inattentive staff that don't even understand how to upsell or be helpful when you're spending top dollar. Should be getting 1000 points for this reservation but will just not return or recommend this place for its service. The food was very tasty, but the poor low energy service made the dining experience mediocre. Thank you chefs for sticking to your craft and churning out great dishes.
Great service, wonderful location and tasty food! However, the pre theater menu was not substantial at all. I’m not one who needs big portions but this was so small we ended up getting dinner somewhere else after our show.
We went for our anniversary and had an excellent experience. Thanks.
Service initially was VERY SLOW-the table next to us, that was seated 15 m after us, got their drinks before us. I complained to the waiter and he had a nasty remark. A new waiter was assigned to us and service then was fabulous
Celebrating my husband’s birthday
We had a significant wait before we were greeted by someone at the hostess station. When we arrived there was no one there and we waited at least five minutes before someone came over to welcome us. We had to wait another five minutes or more before we were seated at our table. This was not a very welcoming first experience. Aside from that, we enjoyed our meal and I would dine there again. I suggest they do a better job of staffing the hostess area.
Wonderful! Delicious pre-theater dinner, flexibility from the kitchen so we could swap things out and simplify a dish, excellent range of options, and all so tasty. Our waiter was Jarrod and we appreciated his thoughtful attention.
Went there with my boyfriend and grandmother and had a great time. I would definitely recommend the milk and cereal and Lamb Frites. The cocoa Choux dessert was not really worth getting.
Everything was perfect except the odd seating arrangements.
This was an excellent experience except for the servings of food which were exceeding small. The food was creative and delicious and the service was outstanding. It’s a shame we won’t go back there for dinner because of the very small portions.
Simply an outstanding restaurant. I highly recommend it.
I had been to Volver about a year ago for the full, 12-course tasting menu. It was elegant. There was dedicated staff for every need, including a sommelier. The attention to detail was terrific. This time we were attending an orchestra concert and tried the 3-course menu. The food was very good. The wait-person dedicated to us was very bad: defensive, not willing to help, unfriendly. I asked for an infused vodka drink and I think he interpreted that as flavored vodka. Rather then suggesting other vodka drinks with flavored elixirs to create what I wanted - I just ordered a Prosecco. The more I thought of it the more amazed I became that a FULL SERVICE AND STOCKED BAR would not have a Cosmo or something like that. He was totally uninterested. Perhaps going back when it is less busy and a different person would change my mind. Hate to not return. It is aesthetically pleasing and convenient.
We had a truly disappointing dinner prior to a symphony concert. Our server Kellen was attentive and pleasant, but the pace of the meal was uneven. While our appetizers were very good, the entrees were just awful. The Wagyu beef was prepared terribly and was almost too chewy to eat. An unattractive presentation with a tiny smear of beet purée and some bland sauces completed the entree disaster. The chocolate dessert pastry had good flavor but was too dry, no doubt because large trays of it were sitting out for some time before being served. Really sad that this restaurant has gone downhill. Even the flowers at the reception desk were wilting and sitting in a vase of disgusting brown/green water. They need to clean up their act!
Mother’s Day and Pre-show dinner
The food was not as good as remembered. The service was terrible. They started to set up for a private party and moved all the chairs around us before dessert was served. And dessert never came. We had to leave for orchestra and so ended up without dessert or being credited. The staff was rude and unhelpful including the manager.
Arrived at 5:30 PM, ordered pre-show 3 course dinner. By 7.25 we still did not have dessert. Performance started at 7:30 so we never had dessert. Service/kitchen terrible.
The experience was amazing, we were not rushed and all the staff was accommodating. It was very romantic and classy. We are vegetarians and there were options for us that were delicious.
We went to Volver to try the pre-theatre menu and we were not disappointed. The food was fresh and wonderful. While we had some issues with the service, it was quickly resolved by an outstanding manager. She was excellent.
Fun menu. Difficult to decide on what to order.
My friend and I dined in the bar (not crowded) and each ordered the pre-theatre, pre fixe menu, reasonably priced at $35 which included a first and second course plus dessert. Everything was delicious including the seasonal halibut-like fish, the “milk and cereal” which is actually composed of chicken and rice in an exquisite white broth, ricotta gnudi and a composed salad w/ spring lettuces. For dessert, the menu offered a single item: a luscious but light chocolate confection. My partner had a complex and tasty specialty cocktail beforehand (I think it was called blood lust) and I had an overpriced blend of rum and fruit juices. I also had a terrific glass of the Segura Viudas cava rose.
Service was knowledgeable and responsive and we were able to make our 8pm curtain in plenty of time.
Great ambience and many interesting dishes.
The food was very good & tasty & the service was very good. However for the price, I would expect a little bit more quantity. For example, the filet I had was absolutely delicious!!! However for $30, it was <4 oz with 2 tiny potatoes--- I would expect a bit more.
THE BEST were the handcrafted cocktails--- we had a Don Juan and a Blood Lust. Both of which were OUTSTANDING!!! Never had anything like it. Talked to Jamie the bartender and she said she created these on her own. They were $15-20 each but ABSOLUTELY worth it!!! I would definitely go back just to sit and have cocktails. Usually I have 2 drinks with dinner, but these were SO GOOD, that one was perfect---- so worth the price.
This was great as a pre-concert dining place. The food portions were a good size; not too much but very good. The lamb chops were perfect. The waiter was nice and interested in how we were doing.
Pre concert meal outstanding and a great kickoff for a terrific orchestra concert.
It was a good experience but my husband ordered wagyu beef. But, they already ran out. My husband was looking forward on having the beef.
My husband and I had a great pre-theater tasting dinner. Whimsy brought us in but we absolutely plan to “volvér!” I have celiac disease but had many options - including, thankfully, the milk and cereal (a fun and inspired dish). The ambience is somehow both cozy and elegant and the service was above average. If you’re into wine, ask for the full bottle list. They have some gems!
tiny portions, as if a tasting menu...tasty but hardly enough to be considered a dinner menu...may be as a part of a 6-7 course meal...it wasn't horrible but not worth going back for, Philadelphia has a lot of great options...mostly an uppity older crowd after the theater...
Lovely, quiet ambiance; excellent food; perfect for pre-concert or pre-theater evening.
A very good value for the price.
Very good . Server was not hovering but it could have been slightly better
This very elegant bar/restaurant (more bar than restaurant) is elegant, with an element of gentleness to it. Go on a night when the symphony is not in town and the place is all yours. Service is exceptional, and the food choices are innovative and unusual. A vegetarian tartine was outstanding as was the tuna tartare. The cheese plate was good, not great (not very unique selection). The wagyu beef was chewy, and somewhat underwhelming. The drinks were nice, and the parfait dessert was to die for. All in all, it's a very nice place to chill, have a drink and taste interesting food
This was probably one of the top six or seven meals I have ever had. The chef and the bartender demonstrated levels of creativity and skill that are rare, and every single bite and sip was a delight. The space itself is beautiful and fascinating, and our server, Kellen, was excellent and charming. I would seriously consider coming back to Philadelphia just to dine here again.
We stopped in before theater on a Friday evening. Volver has a tasting menu for such occasions. The food was well conceived and presented. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. We started with their take on cereal and milk, actually a white asparagus soup with pieces of chicken and lardons. The chicken with foie gras was tender and tasty, as was the wagyu beef over a beet puree. The chocolate cake for dessert was also a winner. The portions are not large, so you are not left stuffed before you sink into your seats at the theater.
had to request water, rolls, knife
not asked if coffee was desired
Restaurant was horrible!!!!!!! Poor Service Seated
In Bar area as if we were having an early Bird
Too many rules and regulations for it to be enjoyable.
Very very disappointing birthday celebration!
Our server, Kellen, was informative and attentive. The kobe beef was delicious. I just wish that the price fixed menu would change monthly. We are Orchestra Subscribers and eat at Bar Volver once a month from October thru May or June and would enjoy a little variety.
Really beautiful place, Kellen was amazing and he really helped me and my boyfriend explore the menu. He showed us the kitchen for the tasting menu and it was overall an extremely beautiful and romantic dinner.
