We greatly enjoyed Volver! The pre-fixe theater menu provided three delicious courses. My favorite was the milk and cereal appetizer! The entrees and desserts were fabulous. We will be back again!
There was no problem with the food but someone clearly messed up the reservation on a busy night and we ended up miserable on an important evening. We made reservations for Valentine's many weeks in advance with OpenTable and got an 8:30 seating, planning to have Volver's 12-course tasting. In total, this was our fourth trip to Volver. When we arrived, the hostess said she could only seat us near the bar area for a four-course pre-set Valentine's dinner. We diplomatically complained. The restaurant accommodated our request but couldn't seat us until 10:20pm and we finished dinner around 12:30am. Talking to other guests, the same mess had happened to them as well and a few with bona fide reservations just had to be turned away. Absolutely no reason for a prestigious restaurant to make a mistake like this, which ruined many couple's evening.
My entire experience was absolutely fantastic! Highly recommend! Food was outstanding, service was great, everything was just wonderful!
Wonderful service, creative bartender, delicious food, fun experience
The food was terrific. The vegetable tartine war particularly delicious. We had the chicken and fish dishes and they were cooked to perfection. The service was wonderful and we look forward to returning soon.
Food was beautifully presented and prepared. Excellent pre-concert dinner.
Service was poor. Even though being on time for the reservation we had to wait about 20-25 minutes. The hostesses repeatedly asked us our names. When we were seated, we were told that service was slow because the restaurant was overbooked. This would have been OK, except that the waiter did not come by, and we had to place our order with the person bussing the tables (who was very accommodating).
I really wanted to love Volver, but our experience had a lot of disappointments that were really surprising given that they were mostly logistical. We went for a pre-theater dinner and the menu was great, the restaurant is really very pretty, and it was nice to see it packed for a show at the Kimmel Center. But the service was so SLOW, we literally almost missed our show even though the restaurant is in the same building as the orchestra and we'd allotted 1.5 hours for a two-person dinner. Given that there's a fixed pre-theater menu, it's all the more surprising. The food was inventive and pretty yummy, but the portions were too small for my husband who came straight from work and hungry ( they were ok for me). The drinks were a little overpriced -- but not entirely sure as they had to give us the check before dessert and it wasn't itemized so we weren't quite sure how things added up but didn't have time to ask. The dessert we got wasn't what was advertised on the menu. The plates were way too big for a table of two. I'm writing this review in the hopes that someone from the Garces team reads it. I wouldn't spend $150 again this way. You guys can do better than this!
Kellen was awesome
The food was excellent with great flavors and quality ingredients. Definitely meets expectations in every way for a top restaurant in Philadelphia.
Volver is a nice restaurant in the kimmel center. We went for restaurant week which was a decent value at 34 dollars for 3 courses. My food was good but portion sizes were small.
We went for Restaurant Week which made the experience much more economical. The food was very good and creatively presented. Servers tried hard, but the timing was off - no one was around if you needed them. I would go back for Restaurant Week or a special occasion.
An extreme disappointment! Living in Center City & eating out very frequently, figured we'd give Volver a try during restaurant week. What a mistake! Our cocktails were half empty upon arrival. We wanted to have a glass of wine with dinner but by the time we could get our waiter's attention we were halfway through our meal. Fish portion was microscopic and extremely fishy due to dark meat not being removed. Unfortunately have no desire to return to this beautiful spot.
Went for restaurant week. Food was nothing special. Three-course meal portions very small. I left hungry (I usually have trouble finishing restaurant meals). Service was mediocre -- not acceptable for a high-priced restaurant. For example, when we ordered nonalcoholic drinks, server brought one and then told us the other was not available and offered soda instead of coming back first so that we could reconsider together.
Ate there during Restaurant Week. The food was excellent but portions were small. It was so nice to be able to have a quiet conversation without being elbow to elbow with others.
Ariel, our server was attentive as always. The food was great and the easy pre-orchestra dining location makes for a very nice evening out.
