Excellent restaurant for both lunch or dinner dining. View is unbelievable, menu, including fresh fish, is excellent, and service attentive & accommodating.
We arrived at 5:00pm and were immediately seated, that was good. However, the service was extremely slow and it took over 45 minutes to get food to the table. The food was OK but not great, but the view across the sea to Monterey seemed to make up for this. In talking with a regular customer seated on the table next to ours he said that the food had gone down hill ever since new owners took procession of the hotel but overall, we enjoyed the evening.
Our night began with us ordering top shelf vodka martini’s up and we were told they were not able to make these drinks because they ran out of martini glasses. We settled for a glass of wine and beer. Next we ordered the tuna tacos which were filled with more thousand island like dressing than fish. It must have been a theme for the night to over dress the dishes because our potentially lovely salad was drenched in vinaigrette and we could hardly finish the small portion. Finally our main course arrived which was swordfish with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Everything on this plate was cold and terrible. The mashed potatoes were unrecognizable and the fish seemed to be prepared hours in advance. I know they had a large wedding at the hotel and am suspect they may have just given us a few leftover dishes from the reception. I could barely take two bites and I pushed away the food. A nice bus boy came by and took the plate not even noticing that nothing had been eaten. Insult to injury was getting the final bill and though we never asked for our salad or main course to be split on separate plates, they went ahead with this nice gesture then charged us $6.00 per plate for it.
We are so done with paying $700 a night for ocean front hotel rooms to have their on site restaurant be below fast food standards in quality and service. Next time it’s In and Out burger to go.
Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Great views, quiet area, excellent service.
The restaurant was packed. The front door greeted us with a smile. Due to the amount of people, it took some time to be served. Besides that, everything else was great. Delicious food. Great views!
Had lunch with a friend there last Saturday and had a wonderful visit! Very good food, scrumptious dessert, great service, nice ambiance, expansive ocean view and spectacular entertainment courtesy of a pod of whales close to shore that gave us all quite a show! This place keeps me coming back!!
The food was perfect but the server Carlos was not attentive and will ask for a different server next time. The cocktails were not made i. A professional way and didn't taste worth the price of $14. I feel like I was rioped off.
Not as busy as usual so really nice. Thanks
Cool view of the beach/ocean. My boyfriend loved his fish tacos. My chicken sandwich was pretty good. Definitely a good stop on our drive, but not necessarily a destination.
We really wanted to like this restaurant...but nearly everything about it was a disappointment. Maybe this place is categorized more casual than we thought but the menu/location suggested it would be nicer.
CON- The service was "friendly" but slow, unorganized & overall unprofessional. From the moment we checked in there were unhappy guests ...a couple leaving- saying they'd never been treated so poorly- and the table next to us complaining about the food having no flavor, to which the "manager & waitress" gave them a bottle of their "go to" hot sauce to remedy it! ???!
We had to ask for water and bread after being left for quite a while with an empty table. When the food finally came, it was nothing special- husband's steak was good & my pistachio crusted halibut had about a teaspoon amount of "pistachio crust" & was just ok...and the side dishes on both were cold and tasteless....when we finished we were left for over 20+ minutes with empty plates/drinks waiting either for our desert or check...we really just wanted to leave but couldn't get anyone's attention. Our dirty plates were finally cleared and our waitress said do you want your (already ordered) dessert here or should I pack it up to go...? Ummm, here would be good. It was brought...no offer of coffee or a refill on our water... We ate our dessert, payed our bill (tipped 22%) and left. Never to return.
Really an unfortunate evening that we had hoped would be a memorable one, being our anniversary and all.
PRO- The location has a great view and the set up inside is so every diner can see it!
View was fantastic and food was super delicious! Highly recommend!!
Celebrated our 41st anniversary here. We were the first customers. Strongly recommend reservations. We did after being turned away the previous day. Took forty seven minutes before food arrived. No draft beers at all, seemed they were out. Our waiter, who didn't share his name, was awesome, did his best. Prices are fair and the food we ordered was good. For us, the Vizcaino was all about the view of the ocean which somewhat countered the problems we encountered.
Good food, LOVED my halibut, date's swordfish a tad dry, great choc chip cookie dessert. But had loud family with kids next to and anothet very near us. Nice folks but not a quiet enough place to have a romantic meal. Disappointing, will go elsewhere for romantic dinner, at least during tourist season!
The only thing that was an inconvenience was the screaming child, but the parents were usually quick about keeping them quiet. I also asked for an unobstructed view and didn’t get it, but we still had a nice view overall.
Had our best Italian food-experience in LA. Very well homemade pasta and great Italian wine. (Found our favorite from Montalcino).
Simple and precise. Honest, friendly and professional servants. Would love to come again.
This is a great place to enjoy an ocean view and good food.
Loved the food, service was a bit slow cuz they were super busy. We requested Don Julio anejo tequila but got some other brand of Blanca, if you know tequila then you understand that Blanca is a much lower quality than anejo and our server was not honest about it. Anyway other than that it was a good meal and beautiful sunset overlooking the ocean
The food is always good. The service is always a little slow. I don’t think that it is the wait staffs fault, however. I think that they are understaffed. The view, of course, is fabulous.
Food came out cool - server offered to take back to heat up - better but not good omen. View was excellent - one might consider bar area - less pricey and great views - restaurant is very pricey.
Can't beat this view. Excellent service. Fare was typical for a hotel chain. We were pleasantly surprised by the value, given the view.
Wonderful view and excellent service! Most tables have glorious view of ocean. Food was good! Highly recommend.
ordentliches essen, die speisen könnten wärmer serviert werden, phantastischer ausblick, der service ist verbesserungswürdig.
Swordfish dry and fishy, inexperienced waitress ( had to show her how to.open wine bottle!), not a great experience. Used to be better.
This place was a little hard to find but we loved it!
If you want a great spot to look at the ocean, or watch a sunset, this is the place. Good food with a variety of entrees for a reasonable price.
Food not so good. Served cold. Took a very long time. Restaurant was practically empty and took 45mins to get our cold food. Our waiter was very good. Everything else wasn’t worth it. Actually the entire hotel is a disappointment (Monterey tides)
The view was beautiful and the food was delicious!!
The view was pretty, the food selection was so so. The food quality was that of a diner. We came for brunch and were underwhelmed with the service. The parking was in competition with the hotel, and there wasn’t a lot available. When you come into the hotel it’s unclear as to where the restaurant is, I had to ask the front desk and she was busy checking out several guests, so I could tell it was a bother to her.
They did not have much selection for a person with a gluten intolerance.
The location is superb - fantastic view of Monterey Bay from all seats. The decor is modern and new; tables are a bit close together. The food is good but not outstanding, and the menu is not really large, but it is worth it for the ambience and the view. Some dishes were better than others. The shrimp pasta with olives and capers was very good as was the crab-stuffed mushrooms. However, the fried calamari was "watered" down with the inclusion of a lot of yellow peppers. I would have preferred all calamari for the price. The biggest problem was the service. On a Saturday night, the restaurant was full without enough servers. It seemed that they had to pull in other workers from the hotel to help out. No server asked us about drinks; we had to remind them. We waited a long time for the appetizers to come, even longer for them to clear the table, and then no on every cleared the main course dishes until we were about to leave.
We were with a large group and multiple kids. Overall, they did a great job accommodating us!
Ambience is lovely, but unfortunately there was a very loud party next to us with a screaming child who was running all over the restaurant. I had two small children with me and no one would have even known they were there. Not the restaurants fault, but it definitely didn't contribute to the experience. Food was decent, though it took a long time to come out. Most of my party seemed happy with their food. The cabbage on the fish tacos was very sweet and not my favorite. Otherwise they would have been great. Our server was wonderful and attentive. We will continue to go back for the views and a good meal.
We go there often
Dennis, our water is excellent. Always remembers our preferences on food and wine
Went to the bar for a drink before our meal. Live music was so loud we sat as far away as possible. Someone else asked them to turn it down. Went to the restaurant which had been booked for 4 months. I had requested a sea view which was ignored. We had to wait 15 minutes on a table to become available. Felt like the waiter rushed us. Made us order food and drinks at the same time. Finished our stater but the plates weren’t cleared. Came with our mains and waited while we cleared our table to make room for our new plates. Didn’t give us cutlery, I ohad to take from another table as the waiter never came back. When we were finished the waiter spent more time explaining how his tip worked and how we should give him maximum tip! The meal was tasty enough. If I stayed here again I wouldn’t book the restaurant again.
Have eaten here with our 3 boys (10, 12 & 14) a few time - both dinner and breakfast. Always great food and fabulous view.
Waiters always seem to be behind. Nice but don’t multi task well so are inefficient and you end up waiting long time. Food is good and view is nice.
I ordered the Roasted Butternut salad. The apple cider vinaigrette was a perfect compliment to the spinach, apples and dried cranberries. I'd order this again. I paired it with the blended margarita!!
Found this place through Travelzoo. Thought I’d try it and was pleased with the view, food and overall atmosphere. Regardless of where you are seated, you are sure to have a view of the ocean, which is simply beautiful.
Wonderful room and service. Food was fresh but nothing special.
While the location is very nice, right on the water, I can not say that the rest of our experience was as great. My husband and I each tried one of the sangria varieties, we could not taste any alcohol, and as we saw no fresh fruit in our glasses aside from orange, we were dubious that they were made with fresh fruit. We had fish tacos and pasta with shrimp. Both were mediocre at best- the tacos were 24 a plate, and they were simply heated tortillas with red cabbage, big pieces of battered cod that could have been microwaved?? And pieces of avocado. Jicama and mango slices on side. So basic, not worth more than 12 dollars. The pasta was similar. Several wines we tried to order they were out of, and we did order sauvignon blanc it tasted awful, as if it had been perhaps opened in the fridge for awhile. At first our waiter was very attentive, but then after telling us about dessert, we did not see him again until he brought our check- he did not follow up if we wanted dessert or not. Super overpriced food, mediocre service, but great location, if you aren't a foodie then perhaps the view is worth it? Otherwise unfortunate $100 dinner. But I guess that's what we should have expected for a hotel restaurant...
Perfect place for a date night! we did not want to go into town for dinner, Vizcaino met our dinner and breakfast needs.
