Bastille Day Brunch!
Great wine. Very accommodating to diet restrictions.
Fantastic meal start to finish
Awesome ambiance, good location, definitely worth a visit.
My favorite meal in Asheville! The beets were to die for!
We loved the food. Very interesting choices. Not a large selection of entrees but great selection of small plates. It was our first time and we will definitely go back
Vivian is a stylish bistro with a fresh, eclectic menu and excellent service. We began dinner with the house salad - a crisp medley of flavorful and perfectly-dressed greens topped with seared gouda cheese. For his entree, my husband ordered the big steak (it was his birthday), which arrived perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I ordered the scallop dumpling small plate, which, unfortunately, seemed overcooked with a burned flavor that overwhelmed the scallop stuffing and lobster sauce. With sincere and gracious apologies, the staff quickly suggested a replacement - the grilled shrimp small plate. The shrimp were large, perfectly cooked and complemented by a delicious remoulade type sauce and fresh greens. Although we rarely order desert, being a birthday dinner, we ordered the local fruit tart with house-made ice cream, and it was well worth the calories. The scallop dumpling snafu could happen anywhere, and it certainly will not deter us from returning; the professional way the staff handled the complaint will guarantee our return. Vivian is classy dining with a well-trained, accommodating and courteous staff. While I miss the rotating art displays from when this space was the Junction, I otherwise find Vivian's casual-chic decor and overall ambiance very appealing.
The food was excellent. Our service was good, even after a group of 30 showed up.
This is my very favorite restaurant in all of Asheville (and that is a strong statement because there are tons of good ones!). Food is outstanding, creative and delicious. Wine list is great. Service is also excellent.
Wonderfull food with a lot of interesting added flavors (such as the deviled egg appetizer). The serving staff worked as a team and was excellent.
What a great Brunch! So happy we again have Sundays available for Brunch - with all the great places to go - Vivian’s is definitely one of the best.
I had the smoked oysters. Beautiful presentation of 4 perfect little smoked oysters topped with a bit of caviar - they were delicious. Next, I had The Irish Breakfast - house cured salmon, soft scrambled eggs and soda bread with a caper cream sauce. Just rich enough. Excellent soda bread. Eggs were perfect and it was a very nice size serving of salmon. Definitely plenty for Brunch. I tried their Rising Sun cocktail - Oh My Gosh! I had 2!
My partner had the shrimp and grits and a biscuit. The sauce was so delicious. Very deep delicious shrimp and lobster, beautiful texture. The biscuit is heavenly especially with the apple butter - it taste like a caramel apple butter.
Love this place!
From the second we were welcomed into Vivian, we knew it was going to be a wonderful evening. The staff were all warm and let us know about the elements of each dish. The decor was modern yet very cozy. We had a selection of the small plates and were particularly struck by the buttery foie gras with serviceberries and the smoked quail. The food was all an artful balance of rich and sophisticated flavors with fresh, Appalachian touches. The bartender told us that the new cocktail menu had come out the night before, and we thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. The Double Take, his original concoction, was an amazing bourbon-based drink with bitter and floral notes. Overall, this was a fantastic experience.
This was a last minute find for us on our last day in Asheville, and I wish i knew about this restaurant sooner!
The restaurant is located in the art district and it's awfully quiet at night. The interior has a very unassuming atmosphere and really makes you feel at ease. The service was very good and the waiter (I wish I asked his name!) is extremely experienced in the menu items and did a fantastic job setting the order of our small plates and entree.
What really surprised us were the service and food, which you would imagine only available in a high-end, fine dining restaurant, was done very nicely here, yet with the unassuming atmosphere, it really make you feel relaxed and right at home! I am surprised why this restaurant wasn't highly ranked by tripadvisor and I am definitely coming back when I visit Asheville again! Great job, Vivian!
I've lived in Asheville 22 years and this is the best restaurant we have ever had.
So so good! All of our cocktails were great. We had the deviled eggs, smoked oysters, seafood toast, and crab omelet. Only complaint was I wish is would have been lump meat on the omelet. I would have paid extra for that since the sauce and omelet itself were delicious. Steak and eggs and shrimp and grits were both very good. Can’t wait to go back!
What a great spot for a Sunday brunch! Arrived at the 1030 opening time and seated immediately on the very chic outdoor patio! The great breeze and the beautiful plantings made it a comfortable spot to be, even on a hot day. Highly recommend the shrimp and grits. Lots of shrimp and hearty grits with a delicious lobster gravy! Mimosas were delicious, as well. Jordan took great care of us!
We had brunch and really enjoyed it. Go Hungry! Definitely try the coffee cocktail as well. All of the meat was amazing. Definitely want to go back and try other items.
One of the best meals I've had this year in any upscale restaurant, and our server was brilliant!
Outstanding service and great food.
Appetizers were excellent. We shared the outstanding deviled eggs with Mackerel (that's right) and rabbit terrine. Had to ask for bread with the terrine though. Entrees although good were very small for the price. This is a fun restaurant with an excellent staff and great service. Easy parking too. We always sit at a table in the bar as it is quieter than the dining room and the bartender is your waiter (great) unless he is too busy.
The food was delicious, and our waitstaff was very helpful with staggering our choices perfectly. I will definitely return and will spread the word. A bit pricey but most of the restaurants in Asheville that know what they are doing tend to be that way.
Our first time at Vivian. We were not disappointed.
The service was excellent and our waiter was very informative. The mussels were absolutely delicious.
I split the flounder with a friend and I do believe it to be the best flounder I've ever had. Others ordered the salmon and the tenderloin and were equally pleased. Wine, drinks and desert were delicious too. We'll be back!
Always great hospitality and excellent cuisine!
It was a very lovely evening with my parents. We were able to enjoy our food in courses and we got a clean plate and fork every time we had a new dish come out. Our server was excellent! She gave us really good recommendations and still had time to work behind the bar! Will be coming back for service alone!
I alwaya.recommend Vivian for brunch-stellar..
This was our first visit and certainly won't be our last. Had brunch and everything was outstanding. Very interesting menu with a wide variety of options. They offer an outstanding wine list and great beer choices (which we didn't use considering the time of day) that we will utilize on our next visit.
Excellent food and service. Inventive with a nod to tradition.
Slightly loud-but it was fathers day!
The food was amazing and only surpassed by the impeccable service. I recommend getting a reservation.
Great restaurant! Food is excellent and good atmosphere. Loved it!!!!
Love all that Vivians offers. The staff in knowledgeable about the menu offerings, wine options and always pleasant.
The chef prepares amazing dishes that are not your run of the mill.
This is our second time at Vivian and it is only getting better! The service was amazing, everything we ordered to eat was perfectly cooked and the drinks were great! We will be back again for a date night or a special occasion. Highly recommended.
What an amazing meal! A smoked quail with serviceberry sauce and country ham dressing, bone marrow with beef tartare served with a cognac to pour down the marrow bone as a luge, polenta with roasted zucchini and crispy duck skin, and rabbit three ways (saddle, confit leg and dumplings) with peas, and the BEST FILET EVER! bacon wrapped with foie gras and sherry demi glace. Seriously though, that demi with a baguette would be a treat on its own.
First time at Vivian, loved it. Half price wine night, delicious food and interesting choices. Great service and bread from The Owl. We will be back!
Noisy, Semi-Disappointing Meal
So many people have raved about Vivian, and we couldn’t wait to go. We went early on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is small, and was crowded, and the sound level made it difficult for the four of us to hold a conversation. Seriously: Even with incredible food, one wants to comfortably converse—which was impossible.
Now, for the food… Everything is presented extremely attractively—which is a plus, especially for photos. Sadly, all the food didn’t taste as good as it looked. Four of shared the Nordic deviled eggs: excellent; the spinach and artichoke dip: also excellent but only served with four small slices of toasted baguette for the entire container. The chicken liver mousse: wonderful. The Blue Ridge rabbit: mediocre. The flounder: okay. The steamed mussels: above average. The seasonal salad: excellent—with an incredible dressing. Baby zucchini: wonderful. The quenelle: delicious. The wine: excellent.
Service was prompt and professional. There is plenty of nearby parking.
We were celebrating our 37th anniversary and Vivian was the perfect spot for this. We arrived promptly at 6:15 and were seated immediately. Our waiter told us that most of the wines on the menu were 1/2 price per bottle on Wednesdays so we ordered a nice bottle of Montrachet. The appetizers and the main entree we ordered were perfect We shared the main course of flounder and none was left. We had a great anniversary dinner and enjoyed the complimentary glasses of champagne.
I wasn't sure what to expect for dinner, but I was so pleasantly surprised! The food was an experience on it's own, but our server was amazing. We asked for recommendations and he delivered! It was a little expensive, so maybe will have to wait for a special occasion to go back, but I will definitely remember my experience there!
Extraordinary!! This was our first visit, party of 3 at 6:30 on a Saturday night. Quickly seated; excellent bartender, exquisite food, and delightful service. We had cocktails and wine (excellent offerings); two of us had salads, and starters as our entrees, and one of us had a salad and a choice from the entree offerings. So full, we had to pass on dessert. Sauces are incredible... wonderfully concentrated reductions which must take hours, if not days. My husband is still raving about his Manhattan. Cost-wise, not a bargain, but you get what you pay for. My only negative: we found it extremely loud... hard to converse. Yes... we're seniors, but... really... it's really loud. Vivian's brand line is "Honest American Food with Big Flavors...." They're not kidding! This was stellar food and drink! I'm local and Vivian is in my Asheville Top 5. Can't wait to go back!
We enjoyed our 22nd anniversary dinner very much. The food was VERY tasty and the server was personable and informative. We felt as if they truly cared to make it a special experience. Took a bit longer than we would have liked to get the main course, but they were ramping-up and every table was full by that time. For an eclectic experience we would recommend.
Excellent experience all around at Vivian! The menu and the wine list offer delicious options and are reasonably priced. It is a feel good place from the funky and fun atmosphere, the kind service and the quality food. The deviled eggs and whole flounder are fantastic! This is a neighborhood gem in the River Arts District.
Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Vivian. The service and cocktails were fantastic. The restaurant itself feels very casual. The food was good. Would have given it a 5 but the smoked oysters were not great. The founder was fantastic.
