This place is a gem. It is located in the River Arts section of Asheville. The food is delicious. I recommend the Tournedos Rosini and the Bronzino. The desserts are fabulous too. It has a definite modern french bistro feel. The staff is young, energetic and super friendly. I would go back in a heartbeat.
While visiting Asheville, we dined at Vivian. We began with the seared foie gras which was well prepared. The chestnut pate seemed a bit dry but was tasty. Next, we followed with the souffle omelet with crab. The crab serving was very generous and the souffle was very light and airy. The dish would have been improved by more flavor. Our entrees included the duck breast, branzino, and beef tournedos. We ordered a side of roasted broccoli for the table. The duck breast and branzino were excellent. The beef was also very good but suffered from a cold piece of burned toast under the filet. The broccoli was good but also a bit burned. We all shared the Dutch trifle which was excellent. Our service was excellent. The furnishings were somewhat eclectic. Mostly cool, but the plastic chairs were a bit jarring. Overall, a very good dining experience.
My wife and I have now eaten here twice. The food is excellent. She is a vegetarian and I am an omnivore. Both of us were very happy with our meals. The staff is friendly and our server Peter (both times) was outstanding. I am looking forward to the next time we are in Asheville so we can return.
Good food. A little over the top on the chargrilled theme but all and all a good dinner. The scallops were amazing.
Vivian is the best restaurant I've been to in at least 10 years. The food, service and proprietors and wait staff are absolutely phenomenal!!!
Amazing food, amazing service. Found myself shaking my head after every bite because I couldn’t believe how perfect everything was!
Extensive and impressive wine list. Unique cocktails. Creative, fresh food. Staff is friendly attentive and happy! Loved this place. The food was the best we had here in Asheville. This place is a hidden gem, check it out.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Did I say LOve??
Phenomenal food and service! Peter was outstanding. The dishes were beautifully presented and creative - and OMG-level delicious. Will return every trip to Asheville! Look forward to dining with you again.
This was our first visit to Vivian tonight and we were so pleasantly surprised and will go back
The menu was elegantly prepared and paired nicely
Great wine list
Service was amazing it started to rain and they accommodated us inside so quickly
Dessert menu was a bit short but overall an up and coming place to have dinner
Creative delicious food. Beautifully prepared and served. Our Server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We will be back.
Vivian is my favorite restaurant over the past year. Extraordinarily creative, beautiful presentations, amazingly delicious. Super cocktails and service as well. We were blown away with ever-so-lightly smoked, fresh oysters with pickled shrimp, a quenelle with lobster and lobster sauce and the omelet soufflé. All three were outstanding. This is "big city" cuisine orchestrated my a remarkable chef and staff. Wow!
Excellent! Obviously popular, which is no surprise. Superb service! Wonderful food, without exception.
Food was amazing!!! We had the lobster parfait that was better than a lobster roll. The two egg breakfast with the sausage that tasted like grandmas polish keibasa. And the steak and eggs that had wine poached eggs and a beautiful hollandaise. Definitely a must !
Our first visit to Vivian was wonderful! The menu offered great choices. Our food was delicious! Service was fantastic! We will definitely be going back!
Great menu, excellent food at Vivian. Service was excellent. Definitely recommend!
This is a very good restaurant. The noise level was high, but only due to a group of young ladies loudly talking and laughing. Once they exited the restaurant all was well. The four of us in our party enjoyed the food. My entree was on the salty side, but that happens. I'll definitely give the restaurant another try.
Literally the best restaurant in Asheville. Hands down.
This is now my new favorite restaurant in Asheville. This was my second time coming and I plan on coming back very soon. This is the kind of food that will cure a broken heart. Yummmm
Four of us had brunch in this restaurant. One ordered the corned beef hash which comes with mustard cream sauce and, luckily, it was requested to be on the side. It was way over salted and not edible. When we informed our waiter, she said she'd tell the chef but we never got any further feedback about it. Also, the cabbage component of the hash was minimal to non-existent. A disappointing performance...
All our dishes excelled. For starters we had the peaches and ham (think melon/proscuitto) and the sweet and sour okra, both slightly sweet and paired well. Followed with the tomato and cucumber salad which was delicately dressed and refreshing. Summer is the season. Then we shared a whole bronzino fish which came in a spectacular presentation, boned but retaining the head and tail. The herb sauce should be licked up to the last drop. Easily large enough to share.
My only unhappy surprise, and this depends on your personal tastes, was discovering the Julia Child martini is made with a sweet vermouth instead of the usual dry variety.
The patio and interior spaces are both intimate but very different in sound level. We preferred the quiet refruge of the patio which is mostly set up for couples. However, lively young people seemed to enjoy inside.
TIP: late comers were finding a number of items sold out. The price of popularity!
Found this gem on Open Table in a new area of the city. Food was superb - grilled cheese on a tasty salad, meatballs that were great and should be a main course and a fresh fish. Overall, food and drinks were great. Check it out.
Very friendly service. I wasn't able to get a table inside through reservations but we arrived a little early and I asked again if there was any way we could get a table inside (I had already called and asked). She was very nice and said she'd have to arrange a few things but she got us inside. Outside was fine but very casual and this was anniversary dinner so I wanted a little more elegance of being inside. The hostess also brought us a couple glasses of champagne on the house for our anniversary, which was not necessary but a nice touch. The salad and appetizers were amazing taste combinations, exploding with flavor. I'm not a foodie so I won't try to describe it but it was way beyond any normal restaurant fare. The entrees were delicious and well prepared but a little underwhelming after the appetizers. Nothing to complain about, they just didn't blow us away in the same way as the appetizers. Desserts were also top notch. All in all, a delightful treat for the taste buds and very pleasant anniversary dinner.
Our go-to restaurant in Asheville. Small, but accessible; great waitstaff.
We’ve been there now for or five times. Usually by this time at a restaurant, you have at least one off dish.
We have not had one yet. The menu is constantly changing and is always seasonal.
Great cocktails, great beer selection, good wine selection.
Great to take families to, or for a date night.
It is rare that I walk out of a restaurant having enjoyed a truly delicious meal. The food I ate at Vivian was so good that "Ego" from "Ratatouille" would have dropped his pen! I had the Mediterranean sea bass, which was perfectly cooked. The accompanying seasoning and vegetables were also perfect. I will definitely dine there again when I return to Asheville.
Unique Asheville location, eclectic menu, outstanding food
we read all the reviews and the evening easily met our expectations. too many choices, hard to decide between multiple small plates and an entree....we'll just have to go back and try different things! the service was excellent; our server was attentive, knowledgeable and enjoyable. we will be back
Found this place through Open Table. Reviews were helpful in choosing. It’s located in the River Arts District of Asheville. Very Avant-garde. Menu had a nice variety and quite unique. Everything was delicious and the wait staff was friendly and helpful. We very much enjoyed the deviled egg small plate dish.
One of the best meals I've had in Asheville, NC. I got the duck and my fiance got the filet mignon and we shared the deviled eggs - all divine! We also had a cute little nook outside to ourselves and the service was very pleasant. I'll be recommending it to many! Thanks!
Three of us shared seven items from their small plates menu and we had to carry some home. Each of us ranked all seven and we all had different items as our favorites. One that was at the top of the list was the scallops dumpling dish and another person selected the deviled eggs. The last favorite was the meatballs. All were delicious.
I can mark it as quiet because we ate outside; it was one of those beautiful Asheville evenings. Inside was very noisy. Our food was quite delicious. I opted for small plates. Had okra a new and tasty way, muscles and pork w lentils.
I’d recommend all of these choices.
Fabulous in every way! One of the best dinners we’ve ever had - and I heard the people next to me saying the same thing!!
Vivian is an absolutely lovely restaurant! From the environment and atmosphere to the wine and food, it was all fabulous, well presented and yummy!!!!!
We absolutely love Vivian. Both the dinner/lunch menu and the brunch menu are amazing. Highly recommend.
Vivan completely surpassed my expectations and turned what had been a terrible day into the best night of my vacation. The drinks were wonderful, the food was amazing and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I can't wait until my next visit to Asheville so I can go back.
We just love Vivian!
Creative food in a fun atmosphere using local ingredients - it's Asheville!
Love the seasonal changes to the menu - the Meatball Verde was really good - very light and the sauce was amazing. Also had the Ratatouille, it was good, I really liked the how the tomatoes made a kind of sauce that made the dish delish when all stirred together. And, the sundae for dessert was perfect for summer.
The food was the highlight of our visit. It was marred by too much noise and very slow service.
I asked for a vegan entree and was rewarded with a dish anyone would enjoy. Farro and fried trumpet mushrooms was delicious.
We wish we had known about outside dining. It may have been quieter.
Everyone at the table loved their dinner including dessert. I do wish one of the desserts had been vegan or at least vegetarian.
My husband and I ate here to celebrate our anniversary. I had the filet mignon & he ordered the grouper. The filet was the best I’ve ever had and he agreed. The grouper was really good too but he wishes he had ordered the filet. The wines they recommended went very well with both our dishes. Desserts were great also, especially my husband’s ice cream sundae. Service was excellent. Highly recommend Vivian.
As always, a fabulous meal with excellent service and imaginative cuisine. I simply can't get enough of this restaurant!
