Great brunch, although service was a bit scattered.
I reluctantly would recommend only my closest of friends because I don’t want everyone knowing the Best Restaurant in ASHEVILLE!!! Owners are The Best
Amazing brunch experience! Coming from Nashville, we really appreciated not having to wait in line! The food was original and delicious. The restaurant was adorable and in a cool area to explore. Will come back next time I’m in Asheville.
Late night dinner after a concert... small plates and a big red wine. Plus excellent service and delicious food. Thanks Shannon and Josiah!
Our fish came out uncooked in the middle, then returned from the ‘fix’ like rubber. The waitress offered no accomodation for the two expensive fish meals. Everything was so over-salted we could feel our fingers swelling. And the salad, odd dressing, limp and uninteresting. Even the wine was mediocre. One out of four us enjoyed their meal. Never going back again.
We came on Thursday night for the fried chicken special and were not disappointed. It was so good!! We started with the fois gras pate which was also delicious. We will definitely be back for more Thursday night chicken!
We went for fried chicken night. It was delicious.
Wow, wow, WOW! We are new to Asheville, and we are attempting to try all of the amazing restaurants in this very “foodie” town. We had a fabulous experience at Vivian's , on 1/2 price bottle of wine, Wednesday. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and was able to recommend some of her favorite dishes, as well as the most popular. The attention to tastes and textures and presentation, is remarkable. I am still dreaming about the filet mignon dish topped with foil gras in a delicious sauce. The 2 of us shared the seasonal salad( great flavors), the wreckfish ( had never had this before...Asheville restaurants find some very interesting fish), and the filet mignon. We loved everything! Trying to get into the next wine dinner, but learned it's sold out....hoping they call us from the wait list). Can't wait to return.
One of my absolute favorite places to enjoy in Asheville. The food is always yummy and creative, staff is charming and it is just an all around wonderful place to spend time and enjoy friends.
First time...was pleasantly surprised how great it was! Cocktails, oysters, mussels, wreck fish and filet were outstanding. Not to mention the desserts. Will be back :)
This is my favorite Cosy spot.. the atmosphere is dreamy..a beautiful wine selection..The cocktails are absolutely fabulous...The food is delicious and creative, the chef outdoes hisself .. I will give this place ten stars because it shines...
Great brunch menu. Great service. Nice drink choices. Vivian never disappoints.
This is the best brunch I have had in Asheville. The bloody Mary’s are especially excellent.
We went to Vivian’s for our anniversary because it used to be our favorite restaurant. They asked us if it was a special occasion and we answered yes. They did nothing special, which was fine, but then why ask? My chief complaints concern quantity vis a vis price. Honestly, when your bill is over $75, you shouldn’t walk away hungry, and we did. I used to wonder why people in Asheville would eat at a chain restaurant when we have so many fantastic independent restaurants here, but I’m starting to understand why. Some of the independent restaurants have simply priced themselves out of the market. Maybe tourists will pay these inflated prices for such small portions, but most full time residents will not. There are still some reasonably priced, good places to eat in Asheville. Next time I’ll go there. I don’t mind paying a lot for ambiance and/or a fantastic view, but Vivian’s has neither. It’s loud (so loud you can’t have a conversation) and plain (think shaker style) and we won’t go back. The food was good, but nothing special.
We are locals who eat at Vivian often. The menu is very innovative and interesting. Try the mackerel deviled eggs and stuffed squid appetizers. Know that the portions are on the smaller side so order accordingly. The restaurant is on the smallish side and can be noisy when crowded. A big positive is that it is in the River Arts District so parking is not a problem as it usually is downtown. Try it, you will like it!
Great for date-night. Service was excellent and food quality was very good. Started with the seafood souffle which was excellent. For entrees, we both had steak (2 different dishes) and both were done perfectly. Perfect timing between courses. Will definitely go back!
Our party had six of the entrees. Each was better and more creative then the last.
Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly.
My only teeny criticism is that the dessert cake, while having magnificent flavor was just a tad dry.
Funny though, it was so tasty we didn't mind.
Love the place. Enjoy a French bistro....great food, friendly service, nice vibe. Come early and enjoy new feature Vivnibs. And if it is on the menu, special dish chicken pot pie is wonderful. Just like mom wished she could have made....
Vivian never fails to “wow” us. Beautiful, creative, unusual, delicious, over the top. Superb food, cocktails and service. We always look forward to this food adventure. An Asheville stand out. Thanks, Vivian!
Outstanding salad, outstanding steak. Excellent desert coffee! Very pleasant atmosphere. Very impressed, and we would go back.
Service was great, food was amazing! I’ll be returning and bringing friends with me!
Great food and wonderful service. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. We will be back!
different and interesting brunch menu = and energetic, bustling waitstaff
We have been to Vivian a number of times and consider it the best restaurant in the Asheville area.
Fantastic cocktail program, great food, great service
Limited menu, good but not great. Overall expensive for the quality.
We had a large selection of appetizers instead of an entre. We couldn’t have been happier. The dishes were unique and delicious. Also had a great bottle of wine to go with the meal.
We have been there a few times when the weather was warmer so we sat outside. This time we had to sit inside and it was quite noisy. We could hear ourselves talk but was harder to communicate with our very helpful waitress.
Mediocre food and poor service. We came for our 45th anniversary and were disappointed. Coming on fried chicken night was probably a mistake. We did not know about that ahead of time. Our mistake. We think our waiter was not happy that we brought our own wine. Our wine was by far and away the high point of the meal. It was a 2016 Sinegal that was superb. The food was quite bland and our waiter was largely AWOL. Too bad because we have been to Vivian several times for dinner and brunch and have been very happy. That is why we picked it for our anniversary dinner. We'll be back but not on a Thursday night if that is fried chicken night.
Our meals were excellent. This night was the monthly "Fried Chicken Night". Three good sized pieces of chicken that was tender, juicy, and fried just right. Our three pieces were a breast, leg, and wing. Not sure if this special night will continue, but you should go, if it does. If it doesn't and you haven't been to Vivian, I'd recommend you give it a try.
Planned a trip up to Asheville that included brunch at Vivian. While we enjoyed our day, the one thing we could not stop talking about was our experience there. The food was outstanding, charcuterie and cheese to start and the steak and eggs as well as the Irish breakfast for our main, were savored and appreciated for the preparation and the unusual approach to items that can be monotonous. The quail and pork pate was delicious, enough salt, fat and a touch of sweetness with great texture that we all but cleaned the plate. The mains were incredible as well. The steak and eggs were rich, but in the most comforting sense, and prepared with a twist that took it to the next level and the Irish breakfast was simple in its approach but rustic and flavored to perfection. Our server and assistant were thorough but non intrusive and we were never in need or want. I’m sure we will talk fondly of this experience for days and are already planning a weekend based around dinner at this quaint and intimate establishment. Thank you to all who were involved in making this one our favorite brunch dates as of late.
Wonderful brunch for two. Always a pleasure to see Vivian new creations. Loved the chicken pot pie and salad. If you like Vivian for dinner, do NOT hesitate for Sunday brunch. Also noted is convenient parking and an opportunity for a digestive walk thru the artist studios after your meal, many of which are open on Sunday. Enjoy, enjoy....
After one lovely meal at Vivien, we have been disappointed for two successive visits to the extent we will not bring guests to dinner there again. On two occasions, most recently 2 nights ago, we have made reservations only to find the restaurant was overbooked and could not honor our reservation without a lengthy wait. A specific request for the outside entailed a wait of well over an hour, despite a confirmed and reconfirmed reservation. Unacceptable. The interior table we were offered instead, after a wait, was so noisy we could not hear our guests, and an hour later when our reserved table became available and we moved to it, although it was much quieter and nicer, by then we were exhausted by the strain of the noise and the disruption. Not what one wants when entertaining out of town guests. I guess the food was okay, but the waitstaff was confused about which wine our guest had ordered, and seemed confused about what she had brought. Our guest said nevermind, just leave what she had brought, though I noticed he did not drink the wine. And he does know wine. Honestly, the experience was disappointing and somewhat embarrassing. The hostess was apologetic, and comped us one dessert we did not order, but that does not change the overall dining experience.
A similar inability to honor reservation, entailing a lengthy wait, and service indoors rather than out as we had requested, occurred at our previous dinner at Vivien.
We hope the restaurant can manage its own system better in the future. We have been cheerleaders for Vivien, but no longer. We might try it again for ourselves sometime, but won't bring guests again.
We had a great meal!
We always have a superior dinner at Vivian. Excellent professional staff.
Great experience, food, and service!
A lovely place I have been meaning to get to for some time. Visiting relatives allowed me the excuse. Every aspect of the food was beautifully executed. The deviled eggs rocked my world. Desserts were made in house and brilliant. Tho far from my hood, it is a place I will make a point to visit often. Thank you Shannon et al!
Fabulous and relaxed but attentive service.
First visit there, menu was a wonderful surprise of choices.
Food was excellent. Great wine list.
Service very good.
We will be back .
Elegant food presented in a relaxing setting. Best wine list in Asheville. Best service ever.
