Planned a trip up to Asheville that included brunch at Vivian. While we enjoyed our day, the one thing we could not stop talking about was our experience there. The food was outstanding, charcuterie and cheese to start and the steak and eggs as well as the Irish breakfast for our main, were savored and appreciated for the preparation and the unusual approach to items that can be monotonous. The quail and pork pate was delicious, enough salt, fat and a touch of sweetness with great texture that we all but cleaned the plate. The mains were incredible as well. The steak and eggs were rich, but in the most comforting sense, and prepared with a twist that took it to the next level and the Irish breakfast was simple in its approach but rustic and flavored to perfection. Our server and assistant were thorough but non intrusive and we were never in need or want. I’m sure we will talk fondly of this experience for days and are already planning a weekend based around dinner at this quaint and intimate establishment. Thank you to all who were involved in making this one our favorite brunch dates as of late.
Wonderful brunch for two. Always a pleasure to see Vivian new creations. Loved the chicken pot pie and salad. If you like Vivian for dinner, do NOT hesitate for Sunday brunch. Also noted is convenient parking and an opportunity for a digestive walk thru the artist studios after your meal, many of which are open on Sunday. Enjoy, enjoy....
After one lovely meal at Vivien, we have been disappointed for two successive visits to the extent we will not bring guests to dinner there again. On two occasions, most recently 2 nights ago, we have made reservations only to find the restaurant was overbooked and could not honor our reservation without a lengthy wait. A specific request for the outside entailed a wait of well over an hour, despite a confirmed and reconfirmed reservation. Unacceptable. The interior table we were offered instead, after a wait, was so noisy we could not hear our guests, and an hour later when our reserved table became available and we moved to it, although it was much quieter and nicer, by then we were exhausted by the strain of the noise and the disruption. Not what one wants when entertaining out of town guests. I guess the food was okay, but the waitstaff was confused about which wine our guest had ordered, and seemed confused about what she had brought. Our guest said nevermind, just leave what she had brought, though I noticed he did not drink the wine. And he does know wine. Honestly, the experience was disappointing and somewhat embarrassing. The hostess was apologetic, and comped us one dessert we did not order, but that does not change the overall dining experience.
A similar inability to honor reservation, entailing a lengthy wait, and service indoors rather than out as we had requested, occurred at our previous dinner at Vivien.
We hope the restaurant can manage its own system better in the future. We have been cheerleaders for Vivien, but no longer. We might try it again for ourselves sometime, but won't bring guests again.
We had a great meal!
We always have a superior dinner at Vivian. Excellent professional staff.
Great experience, food, and service!
A lovely place I have been meaning to get to for some time. Visiting relatives allowed me the excuse. Every aspect of the food was beautifully executed. The deviled eggs rocked my world. Desserts were made in house and brilliant. Tho far from my hood, it is a place I will make a point to visit often. Thank you Shannon et al!
Fabulous and relaxed but attentive service.
First visit there, menu was a wonderful surprise of choices.
Food was excellent. Great wine list.
Service very good.
We will be back .
Elegant food presented in a relaxing setting. Best wine list in Asheville. Best service ever.
Everything at Vivian is divine. Don't pass up the delicate richness of Omelette Souffle, the smoldering awesomeness of the Smoked Oysters or the traditional inventiveness of Vivian's Steak Dinner.
Fabulous Halibut, a chef who knows how to season their food, amazing and attentive service....we will 100% be back.
First time to try Thursday night Fried Chicken. Was wonderful.
Delicious as always. Really good waiter.
One of the best dining experiences that I’ve had in Asheville in the past 5 years. Excellent!
Awesome food and staff. Everyone really takes care of you at this local gem. Great dog friendly patio as well.
Always a pleasure.....we loved Vivian when it first opened, and with all new places, there is a risk the quality will fall off over time. Happy to report that Vivain has maintained high standards...with excellent friendly service and a combo menu of old favorites and new entries. Do not hesitate to go and enjoy one of Asheville's finest.
We had Sunday brunch here during our 4 days in Asheville. Vivian is in the Riverfront Arts district, which is quite spread out. The district was quiet on a Sunday morning. The inside of the restaurant is old and artsy. We sat on the patio, which was pleasantly shaded as the day heated up. The menu is a good brunch menu, with some familiar dishes, many with a twist. There is a Dutch influence, with sweet breads. Staff were pleasant and made everyone feel welcome. Nice place to eat.
INSIDE THE DINNING ROOM THE NOISE LEVEL WAS SO LOUD AND IRRITATING, IT WAS HARD TO HEAR THE PERSON ACROSS FROM YOU AT A 2 PERSON TABLE. iT TOOK A LONG TIME FOR US TO GET OUR FOOD. I ASKED OUR SERVER ABOUT IT AND HER REPLY WAS "EVERTHING IS MADE FRESH." THE SCAMBLED EGGS WERE TOO SALTY AS WERE THE POTATOES. THERE WAS A LITTLE FLAVOR IN THE SAUGAGE BUT THE PORTION WAS TOO SMALL.
Loved the food and the service! I don't usually care for dessert but the Peach Charlotte was so good that we HAD to order two!
Ate on the patio which was delightful. Highlight of the meal (all small plates) was the fall squash and farmers cheese plate.
Amazing experience!!! Can’t wait to go again. The food was so creative and delicious. Clean plates all around!
The food was amazing.
The food was amazing. What a gem of a restaurant? The sausage and peppers app was delicious. The filet and the pork chop were amazing. Josiah and Shannon are to of the best restaurant owner and there attention to detail is amazing. Anticipation is the name of the game and the service staff here knows the game.
We love Vivian’s. This time service was slow. Took too long to get our drinks, almost an hour for salads. With that said, our waitress was very pleasant. Salads and entrees were excellent.
Great food! Can't emphasize enough the quality, feel, smell, and most importantly the taste we experienced!
Always excellent in every way!
Food delicious, wine list excellent, service a little slow
Enjoyed our first experience at Vivian. A bit expensive, but the food was great.
We were a bit disappointed in Vivian. My Quenelle was pretty much just a lump of doughy I-don't-know-what, though the broth was delicious. I had never had one before, so wasn't certain what to expect. Maybe that was the problem. My husband had the halibut and said it was delicious. We split the Peach Charlotte - another disappointment. The "custard" inside was clammy and the cake was bland. Perhaps a scoop of ice cream would have helped. Not much of a presentation. The wines we selected were very nice and Bernadette did a wonderful job with the service. One last thing: $2 for a small piece of baguette? It was very good, but why on earth charge for before-dinner bread?!? Seems a bit miserly - especially for a gourmet restaurant.
The brunch at Vivian is too heavy overall, even though some dishes are not. It's just not the best place for brunch.
Place smelled like old fish and wet dog hair.....food was just not good. Service was fine, but the food really poor.
The chef is a genius. And service was great
In the main dining room it gets a bit noisy after patrons had. A few
Cocktail selection is great
Best resto in asheville
creative combinations of ingredients. beautiful presentations. not a lot for vegetarians, but my friend did fine. lovely fish and shellfish.
One dish was way over cooked - even was burned around the edges of the little casserole plate. It was an appetizer that was supposed to be served as an entree'. I suspect they took it back and put it in the oven to keep it warm till others in our party were ready for the entree' but by then it was over cooked but they served it anyway. They gave us a free dessert as an apology but I really think they should have taken the charge off the bill as it was twice what the dessert costed.
Outstanding!!! Table of 4 entrees - Halibut, Scallops, 2 bacon wrapped Filets. Halibut was best I've ever had...perfectly cooked! Bacon wrapped filet also cooked to perfect medium rare...delicious! First time visit for us, surely to be a regular favorite spot from now on. Keep up the good work chef, great presentation, plated beautifully!
Went on a Wed for 1/2 price bottles of wine. Great food and nice bottle of red
INCREDIBLE FOOD! EXCELLENT SERVICE! IT’S A SMALL SPACE WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR THE NOISE LEVEL, BUT WE WILL RETURN FOR THE EXCEPTIONAL FOOD! DO MAKE A RESERVATION, OTHERWISE YOU’LL EAT AT THE BAR, IF THERE’S ROOM. HI
One of the absolute best restaurants in Asheville. Every meal (at least 10 so far) that I’ve eaten here has been outstanding. Plus they are very sweet and accommodating of my food allergies. Great food, great service, great ambience, great cocktails and wine.
