We had brunch and really enjoyed it. Go Hungry! Definitely try the coffee cocktail as well. All of the meat was amazing. Definitely want to go back and try other items.
One of the best meals I've had this year in any upscale restaurant, and our server was brilliant!
Outstanding service and great food.
Appetizers were excellent. We shared the outstanding deviled eggs with Mackerel (that's right) and rabbit terrine. Had to ask for bread with the terrine though. Entrees although good were very small for the price. This is a fun restaurant with an excellent staff and great service. Easy parking too. We always sit at a table in the bar as it is quieter than the dining room and the bartender is your waiter (great) unless he is too busy.
The food was delicious, and our waitstaff was very helpful with staggering our choices perfectly. I will definitely return and will spread the word. A bit pricey but most of the restaurants in Asheville that know what they are doing tend to be that way.
Our first time at Vivian. We were not disappointed.
The service was excellent and our waiter was very informative. The mussels were absolutely delicious.
I split the flounder with a friend and I do believe it to be the best flounder I've ever had. Others ordered the salmon and the tenderloin and were equally pleased. Wine, drinks and desert were delicious too. We'll be back!
Always great hospitality and excellent cuisine!
It was a very lovely evening with my parents. We were able to enjoy our food in courses and we got a clean plate and fork every time we had a new dish come out. Our server was excellent! She gave us really good recommendations and still had time to work behind the bar! Will be coming back for service alone!
I alwaya.recommend Vivian for brunch-stellar..
This was our first visit and certainly won't be our last. Had brunch and everything was outstanding. Very interesting menu with a wide variety of options. They offer an outstanding wine list and great beer choices (which we didn't use considering the time of day) that we will utilize on our next visit.
Excellent food and service. Inventive with a nod to tradition.
Slightly loud-but it was fathers day!
The food was amazing and only surpassed by the impeccable service. I recommend getting a reservation.
Great restaurant! Food is excellent and good atmosphere. Loved it!!!!
Love all that Vivians offers. The staff in knowledgeable about the menu offerings, wine options and always pleasant.
The chef prepares amazing dishes that are not your run of the mill.
This is our second time at Vivian and it is only getting better! The service was amazing, everything we ordered to eat was perfectly cooked and the drinks were great! We will be back again for a date night or a special occasion. Highly recommended.
What an amazing meal! A smoked quail with serviceberry sauce and country ham dressing, bone marrow with beef tartare served with a cognac to pour down the marrow bone as a luge, polenta with roasted zucchini and crispy duck skin, and rabbit three ways (saddle, confit leg and dumplings) with peas, and the BEST FILET EVER! bacon wrapped with foie gras and sherry demi glace. Seriously though, that demi with a baguette would be a treat on its own.
First time at Vivian, loved it. Half price wine night, delicious food and interesting choices. Great service and bread from The Owl. We will be back!
Noisy, Semi-Disappointing Meal
So many people have raved about Vivian, and we couldn’t wait to go. We went early on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is small, and was crowded, and the sound level made it difficult for the four of us to hold a conversation. Seriously: Even with incredible food, one wants to comfortably converse—which was impossible.
Now, for the food… Everything is presented extremely attractively—which is a plus, especially for photos. Sadly, all the food didn’t taste as good as it looked. Four of shared the Nordic deviled eggs: excellent; the spinach and artichoke dip: also excellent but only served with four small slices of toasted baguette for the entire container. The chicken liver mousse: wonderful. The Blue Ridge rabbit: mediocre. The flounder: okay. The steamed mussels: above average. The seasonal salad: excellent—with an incredible dressing. Baby zucchini: wonderful. The quenelle: delicious. The wine: excellent.
Service was prompt and professional. There is plenty of nearby parking.
We were celebrating our 37th anniversary and Vivian was the perfect spot for this. We arrived promptly at 6:15 and were seated immediately. Our waiter told us that most of the wines on the menu were 1/2 price per bottle on Wednesdays so we ordered a nice bottle of Montrachet. The appetizers and the main entree we ordered were perfect We shared the main course of flounder and none was left. We had a great anniversary dinner and enjoyed the complimentary glasses of champagne.
I wasn't sure what to expect for dinner, but I was so pleasantly surprised! The food was an experience on it's own, but our server was amazing. We asked for recommendations and he delivered! It was a little expensive, so maybe will have to wait for a special occasion to go back, but I will definitely remember my experience there!
Extraordinary!! This was our first visit, party of 3 at 6:30 on a Saturday night. Quickly seated; excellent bartender, exquisite food, and delightful service. We had cocktails and wine (excellent offerings); two of us had salads, and starters as our entrees, and one of us had a salad and a choice from the entree offerings. So full, we had to pass on dessert. Sauces are incredible... wonderfully concentrated reductions which must take hours, if not days. My husband is still raving about his Manhattan. Cost-wise, not a bargain, but you get what you pay for. My only negative: we found it extremely loud... hard to converse. Yes... we're seniors, but... really... it's really loud. Vivian's brand line is "Honest American Food with Big Flavors...." They're not kidding! This was stellar food and drink! I'm local and Vivian is in my Asheville Top 5. Can't wait to go back!
We enjoyed our 22nd anniversary dinner very much. The food was VERY tasty and the server was personable and informative. We felt as if they truly cared to make it a special experience. Took a bit longer than we would have liked to get the main course, but they were ramping-up and every table was full by that time. For an eclectic experience we would recommend.
Excellent experience all around at Vivian! The menu and the wine list offer delicious options and are reasonably priced. It is a feel good place from the funky and fun atmosphere, the kind service and the quality food. The deviled eggs and whole flounder are fantastic! This is a neighborhood gem in the River Arts District.
Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Vivian. The service and cocktails were fantastic. The restaurant itself feels very casual. The food was good. Would have given it a 5 but the smoked oysters were not great. The founder was fantastic.
We were a a bit wary when we arrived at the front of the building. It's got a funky vibe and being unfamiliar with Asheville, we weren't really sure about the neighborhood. As soon as we stepped through the door that all changed. Everyone was cordial, professional, and accommodating Vivian's is a real gem, and we had a delicious dinner, loved the variety offered on the wine list, and appreciated the prompt and friendly service. All in all, it was a completely enjoyable evening. I would (and have) recommend this spot to anyone.
Lovely meal, fabulous service. Definitely a favorite.
Had the oysters which were very delicate and small and not very flavorful. Had the special whole tile fish in caper, EVOO pan sauce with ... (can't recall) and shared with my wife. It was VERY bony and maybe the waiter should have advised a bit more on that issue. We would have likely gone with another entree. We both had the Albarino by the glass (don't recall the vintner or vineyard) which was a good choice with the fish. Ordered the foie gras pate' (would have preferred just pan seared foie) and it was good. Also the carrots with the parsley pesto which my wife loved.
All in all a good dining experience. We'll be back.
Intimate space, reminiscent south of France, hardscape environment so would be challenge for someone hard of hearing. That said, FABULOUS! Smoked oysters with fennel oil glide down , fois grais with picked strawberries taste like butter and the flounder prepared that night was wonderful. Finished with decadent chocolate bread pudding and digestive.
We had a great small plates dinner at Vivian. It was delicious. We weren’t real fond of the smoked oysters(we are oyster snobs) bc the oysters themselves didn’t have any taste to them. They are out of season so I guess that is understandable. The artichoke/spinach dip was very rich but sooooo good. The remoulade sauce is the star of the shrimp Louie. 6 peels shrimp served w lettuce leaves mixed in a vinaigrette and a spoonful of English peas. Great presentation. The beat dish of the evening was the omelette. They whip up the eggs in a way to make a frothy inside of the omelette. It is topped with fresh crab and i have no idea what else but we thought it was to die for. There were some edible flowers in top for presentation. I highly recommend everything we tried w the exception of the oysters until some saltier ones come in. The service was fantastic and our server gave us a lot of information about each dish and the wine we chose. The ambiance is typical Asheville small restaurant look. It is in the river art district so it has its own cute quirky look. If you visit Asheville - go to Vivian.
Four of us had brunch today. Each of us had a different dish (two egg breakfast, deep-fried pork loin, shrimp and grits, and corned beef hash) and each was delicious. On top of that, we sat on the patio and enjoyed a beautiful Asheville day. You don't want to miss this, if you're in Asheville.
Fantastic food. Awesome wine list and very knowledgeable staff. A must in Asheville.
We enjoyed the excellence of the food and particularly, the service. We will return.
Expensive. Flavorless. Pretentious. Disappointing.
We ordered four appetizers. Only one had any flavor.
Why go back?
Wow stellar service. A fantastic choice for me and my guests. We got to see amazing food choices passing by and the whole fish was so delicious. The noice level has improved to completely doable and I just received my order of killer Roland cherries referred by the fabulous servers. Yay Live Viv!
Food was excellent. Portions large. Service attentive. Interesting menu. Loud.
Yuen was the best! More greens with breakfast items would be good. More GF please... :) AND, loved everything about...super well done!
Really loved the space, our server was excellent. Very happy with cocktails.
Food pros: breakfast nibble plate and smoked fish deviled eggs were delicious.
Food not so pros: lots of shells in my crab newberg. Hanger steak very much under seasoned.
Would definitely go again next time I’m in Asheville.
Disappointing. 5 choices of entrees-2 beef, 2 fish and rabbit.
Mussel app was fishy and tasteless
The wait staff was the best I have ever seen. Food was well prepared and interesting - nice wine selection
Bernadette was the greatest waitress. The meal was great!!
