Vista Grill on the Beach Ratings and Reviews
This is our second year to PV and I wish we had stopped here last visit. It will be one of those "must do" things when we are back in PV next year is Vista Grill on the Beach.
We are here with another couple. All said it was the best meal we have had in years from start to finish.... hands down.
Great way to end a vacation.
Review Vista Grill on the Beach
Hm ... we had better memories of the old Vista Grill in the Hill
Well, we went with happy memories of one of our (now former) restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. It may be the problem of expectations, or that the move to the beach just has not been a good one for Vista Grill: at any rate, we were disappointed. Unfortunately, we also had convinced friends to come with us to this wonderful place, which made the disappointment even sharper.
We were seated at the time reserved, and then left alone for quite some time (yes drinks were served, and menus handed out). Our waiters and the rest of the staff apparently had a staff meeting a few tables away, with the backs turned to their guests. After a while one of us got up, went over and asked for service, which (hm ...) reluctantly was granted.
We ordered the food, the order was not delivered correctly, but corrected quickly and to iur satisfaction. We had not been given a beverage menu, and imagine our surprise when we were charged a whopping 900 Pesos for four glasses of common wine, although we only had ordered three of them. Instead of a simple Malbec we had been charged for a French wine. The error was corrected, but still came back wrong, a third approach corrected the price to 620 Pesos. Lesson learned: ask for the beverage menu before placing the order.
The ambience is nice, our waiter was nice with good manners. However, our profound disappointment won’t let us go back to this new Vista Grill. We mourn the loss of the old one.
Our last night in Puerto Vallarta before heading back to the Midwest winter, and Vista Grill did everything to lessen the blow. We had asked for, and were seated at, a table on the beach. It was beautiful. Our server contributed several recommendations, all spot on: the sushi appetizer, lamb and duck entrees. The wine guy knew his list, worked with my price point, and we enjoyed perhaps the finest bottle (a Mexican label) in our week of PV dining. Overall, a perfect finale to a really good week in PV. We will keep Vista Grill on the short list of places to hit again when we return.
Very disappointing on many levels. When we arrived, no one was around to seat us for a few minutes. Food that we ordered differed from what was described on the menu. The original location was far superior to the current location. Unfortunately, not a worthwhile dining experience.
Sad that such a nice location with outstanding service has forgettable food. La Palapa group needs to step up its game and improve the menu. Beef tenderloin was tough and tasteless and scallops in seafood dish were bland as well. Shrimp was tasty at least. Just a little more effort and this could be a great place to eat.
Unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired.
After we were seated two large parties of 20 arrived.
Suddenly servers disappeared. We had to ask 3 times for the bread server to stop by our table. Dinners arrived warm at best. The only thing they noticed immediately was an empty martini glass. We had reservations so I would have expected the same level of service as the larger parties.
We were used to the other Vista Grill because of the food and the view. When they moved I was little disappointed but we decided to give this one a go. Vista Grill did not disappoint food and the view was still perfect on the beach. Don’t forget to get the Sexy Coffee! Highly recommend.
This was our first time to the beach location. We enjoyed the hillside location on several occasions previously. We were not disappointed. The food was fantastic. My husband and I started with a tuna tartare app and had the “from the sea” entree if I recall the name correctly. The fish was so fresh. Monster scallops and prawns and the most tender octopus we’ve had. We were thrilled they offered kid friendly options for our picky 10 and 13 year olds. Service was great too. We were so full we had to skip the flaming coffee drink much to my kids’ disappointment. We will be sure to return next time we are in PV.
This meal was a 3 hour experience. We were seated at a table that was not completely set and had to eventually ask for the missing place settings. We finally had drinks after 45 mins. The bottle of wine we ordered was bad (not their fault, but it didn't help). The food took an extraordinary amount of time to arrive. The servers did try. They brought us a complimentary appetizer while we waited and apologized for the slow kitchen. When it did arrive, the food was marginal. All in all, a bad experience that I wouldn't repeat.
Vista Grill on the beach is where we bring every guest from out of town. You get beautiful ambiance, sunsets, beach, pier changing color. Combine all of that with excellent food and we always top off the meal with Mexican coffee made at the table, such a great show with the flames and tastes so good. Enjoy!
I made a reservation which was confirmed by email. When I showed up at the restaurant the doors were chained closed. There was someone there telling me to go eat at La Palapa and my reservation would be honored. We did not go to La Palapa because we wanted to eat on the mountainside with a view. We went to a different restaurant and were very disappointed. I am very disappointed in the lack of customer service from Vista Grill--they had my phone number and my email and could have easily sent me a text or an email about my reservation, but they did not. Will not go back and give this a try the next time I am in PV.
