My friend and I were visiting from out of town to celebrate both her 30th birthday and landing her first job as a physician after too many years of medical school. The great folks at Hotel Indigo suggested Virtue as the perfect place for an enthusiastic meat eater ( her) and a seasoned vegetarian (me).
When we first arrived, I thought it would be too loud for conversation while eating, but as soon as were were seated, it was obvious that that was not the case. We were able to talk in a normal voice and had no issues.
As for the food- wow. We had the best Mac and cheese I’ve ever had in my life. Seriously. The vegetable of the day was brussel sprouts and I could have eaten just that and nothing else and been completely fulfilled in life. :) My friend was able to secure the last lamb dish of the night and was happily surprised with what it was prepared with ( was that an apricot?). The lamb itself melted in her mouth and she claimed it was the perfect amount of everything. I had the sweet potato tacos- the combination of spices worked beautifully with the sweetness of the sweet potatos. I was happy.
Our server was incredible. She was happy to recommend her favorite entrees ( thank you!) and was attentive to our needs ( yes, please , another drink ). When she discovered it was Selena’s birthday, she bought us a slice of the flourless chocolate cake. I don’t have enough words left to adequately describe the near-orgasmic experience of that chocolate cake. Without the generosity of our server, I’d likely live the rest of my life knowing something was missing. Truthfully, I’ve been searching for recipes so I can share it with the rest of my family.
Thank you, Virtue, for a blissful gastronomic experience.
First visit, 3 of us and a 10 year old. A bit of a wait for our reservation time but worth it! We sat on the 2nd floor, nice atmosphere. The food was great and portions large, I don't think any of us cleaned our plates. Service was great and very accommodating. Highly recommend.
I was new to this location and I love the way it looked inside. There's an downstairs and upstairs dining and bar full area. I made reservations for brunch and was seated upstairs. I like the atmosphere and the food was good. The server on the other had was a bit overlooked. I order a mimosa with my chicken & waffles and they are served in the smallest wine glass. My meal napkin was still in my lap and I was still eating. My server "Lawrence" came over and didn't even notice that my glass empty. Instead of asking me if I wanted another refill, he asked was I still working? Clearly I was still eating and was waiting get another refill so I could finish my meal. The next time he came around, he asked if I was all done. I made reservations simply not to be rushed. When a customer is done, I would've place my napkin on the table and asked for a check. Other than that, I hope to return to a better caring server on the next visit.
We got there for our reservation and was seated promptly at a nice table to talk .. Everything we had was delicious from drinks to entrees.. the server was very inattentive and never came back to ask about a refill or 2nd drink and after we had eaten no mention of coffee or dessert just gave us the check .. I would go back as we had a nice time and enjoyed our meal .. but was disappointed w our server ...
Wonderful brunch! The Bloody Mary was fantastic!
Would have enjoyed our evening very much except the noise level was very disruptive to the point we ate quickly and left. Even my 19 yo college student grandson commented that the noise level was terrible. The food was creative and enjoyable. Our server was outstanding, taking the time to explain any entry or side if asked and was responsive during the entire evening. The ambiance "looked" welcoming but the noise ruined it all. This is the reason I cannot recommend this restaurant.
Food was excellent
Very good food and excellent service. The only suggestion to offer is to turn the lights up a bit in the dining room. It was so dark we were unable to read the menu without a flashlight.
Avoid at all cost. Not very good. Surprised at how busy they were, probably because it was a Friday night.
Our table was upstairs and between drapes which cut back in the noise so we could enjoy our conversations. We enjoyed our service and food. We will return.
Creative menu with entrees including duck meatloaf and lamb tagine and vegan and gluten free choices. Appetizers, main dishes and desserts are flawlessly executed. Wide variety of wines by the glass as well as full bottle. Very friendly wait staff. Only complaint is that that the restaurant is very noisy, due to hard surfaces, lots of customers (hey, it's a popular place) and loud (recorded) music. I understand the loud "vibe" apparently attracts millennials, but if you want to have a conversation this is not the place to dine, at least on the weekend.
Polished, sleek , rustic and fun! Such a vibrant and appealing atmosphere! Very eclectic decos, food was incredible! Service was excellent! Came back for brunch the next morning we loved it so much!!!!
The place is beautiful. We had a reservation and requested a table upstairs, we waited 45 to get a table and were seated downstairs. I was specific when I made the reservation, we were celebrating 30 years anniversary so I wanted a table upstairs. Also, we had to waved at the manager because no one came to wait on us. Then the food came before the appetizers. What a disaster. We were trying to make it nicely for our friends.
Met friends there. Food and service were very good. Loved their fish tacos. Husband loved crab cake sandwich. But, very high noise level!!!
Fish tacos and salmon entrees we're excellent, thought the calamari appetizer was good - but could have been a bit crispier - and the apple crisp dessert was disappointing.
I had heard great things about this place and was excited to try it, but unfortunately it was pretty lackluster. The service was great, but the food was subpar. We had cocktails, entrees, and dessert and they were all so-so. Won’t be back again.
Four of us had dinner including my thirteen year-old granddaughter! The place was packed on a Friday evening. We were seated promptly and our drink orders taken! Within five minutes, we had our drinks! Our waiter was very attentive and efficient without being annoying! I was so impressed by the service and the food! We loved the ambience as well!!
outstanding service - went at 1:30 - every table was full on the first level. The crab dip was delicious: i tried my best to share with my co-worker - i failed miserably.
the fish tacos were perfect - great balance of cilantro, avocado, fish, radish - and the soft double taco shell was ideal. Will definitely be back - fortunate it is walking distance from my casa.
Drinks are not good. Also, they charged full price for drinks at happy hour if you get any mixer except soda. Took 30 minutes to get our appetizer.
Excellent restaurant all the way around. Great food and service, very attractive wine list, prices very reasonable for metro DC, and a nice venue. Really an enjoyable meal.
The setting is comfortable and casual, the food is very good, and the service was terrific. The noise level was a touch higher than I would have preferred, making conversation a little more work than I would prefer. The energy level of the restaurant was moderate, and the mood was bouyant. I would definitely recommend this spot to a group out for a fun evening!
Pass on the cold-ish crab dip and save for the ultra rich peanut butter chocolate pie
Fish tacos excellent. Loud!
This place is great. I only gave the 2 stars for ambience because we were seated next to the kitchen. Our waiter was fantastic. He knew the menu and made great recommendations.
Beyond pleased with how the wait staff and management handled an issue with a dish not coming out correctly. Otherwise, the food and service were incredible!!!! Highly recommend!!!!
Always great service and pleasant atmosphere for a business or social event. Food selection always has something different from your standard fare with other local restaurants and very good. Never disappointed when I go to the Virtue Grain and Feed.
I walked into the restaurant at 5:50 pm on a Tuesday. I did not have a reservation but there were many tables for two available. The hostess indicated that we couldn’t be seated without a reservation and the next available opening was at 7:30 pm. She turned us away. I stepped outside the restaurant. Checked Open Table for availability and found that there were many reservation options: 6;00, 6:15, 6:30, etc. I made a reservation on Open Table for 6pm and promptly went back into the restaurant. Back to the same hostess. Indicated I had a reservation and was seated. The hostess acted like this was normal. Truly this makes no sense. The food was average. Fair enough service. Noise level is high. I probably won’t return anytime soon. However the inexperienced and somewhat inept hostess really made us laugh. And I earned 100 points on Open Table.
This was my second time at the restaurant. The food has been consistently good. The service was 'good' but not 'great'. The server was congenial but there were times when too long went by before the server inquired whether a refill was needed. In addition, we were seated near the rear of the restaurant. We were near a door that opened to the outside. It was a cold night and the door was left open repeatedly. Other staff members would close it for us but it would have been nice not to be subject to the draft.
A little on the pricey side and the crab Benedict wasn’t all that great. I did like the refills of bloody Mary’s for $5. The outdoor seating would be perfect in the summer.
Fun time! Menu had different styled American cuisine. Great atmosphere. Not much lighting for dinning though
We made reservations for 730pm and had almost a 30-40 minute wait for our table to be ready.
Great experience. Awesome service and food!
My boyfriend and I had dinner here and our table was ready right away. I tried the stardust cocktail with my steak and fries. The fries are amazing. Definitely will be back for another meal.
Not very impressive - food was OK but tasted like "filler", not very tasty at all. Either the reviews are inflated or I just picked the wrong night/ entree.
Our dishes were excellent. The restaurant was very busy, Our server didn’t check in with us often. our entrees were delivered soon after the appetizers, leaving our table crowded and us feeing rushed. The restaurant was exceptionally noisy and lighting was poor. I like to see my food.
Having said this, I would recommend it for casual dining and quality food.
The food was good, not excellent. I ordered steak and fries and my steak was ordered medium. Half my steak was medium and half was almost raw. The ambiance and decor was truly inviting . They really need to expand their menu choices - it’s pretty limited. What this comes down to is an upscale burger joint posing as an expanded upscale restaurant with a few extra interesting choices and an overpriced alcohol selection.
2nd visit. Enjoyed all food. Thanks!
Had a great time as always. The service was very good and gave my date and I good time to interact a lot before coming back each time. The food was very good and my date loved her wine she got. The Bacon Mac N Chz is amazing and I'll be back for that alone. The ambiance is very cool and cozy. It's like a rustic HGTV home and has a lot of character. The upstairs is really cool to hang out in and offers lots of different seating options.
Gonna keep going back til we’ve tried everything on the menu!
Great looking place and great menu. They were apologetic yet the food came out slow and was a bit cold. It was a busy day. Staff was hard working and friendly.
