The food is good, the ambiance is lovely. My complaint is that we had made a reservation, came about 15 minutes early to the restaurant, and were still seated 20 minutes after the reservation time. We didn’t mind waiting until the reservation time, but did mind the additional 20 minutes given we did arrive early for a reservation made weeks prior.
I liked the place, food was good and ambience was nice. Took my husband here for his Birthday. I put a note in the reservations through open table, I would have liked them to at least acknowledge we were celebrating his birthday, or something to the fact since it was in the notes. If the notes don’t get read then what’s the point of having that field there to add the occasion.
Exceptional service, excellent service, friendly and very nice servers. Could not ask for a more lovely place.
Bit noisy and tables close together. But other than that it is great.
Food was delicious, as always. Scott was our Server and he was awesome - professional, helpful, and attentive. I have dined at Virtue several times, and this time, I introduced a friend to the restaurant. She loved it and we’ll be back!
This is my second time eating at Virtue Feed & Grain, the food was great both times. The service this time around wasn’t horrible but it was mediocre. I will visit again.
Quite a spot in Old Town!! Great ambiance. Near the river, sunslight, couches, cozy!
Must shout to be heard at the table. Would otherwise give 5 stars overall. Server Zoe was excellent at being very personable & friendly, attentive, and making recommendations when asked.
Food presentation was good but flavor was so-so. Some bites were really salty and meat had little flavor. This is the first time I wasn't impressed with the food. The noise level is high and add music in the background makes it difficult to converse even in the dining area.
Great service....Zoe is awesome! Food, setting, everything was wonderful. The only downside is that it’s really noisy so if you’re trying to have a conversation, it’s a bit problematic. We love it here and it will always be a top pick.
Overall a good experience. Only improvement would be to increase the lighting.
Beautiful atmosphere! Parmesian onion rings are to die for. Service is always impeccable. Hence why making reservations way in advance is a must!
Wait staff was great. Stakes were not cooked as requested. For some reason they always want to seat us at a small couch. Not how I want to eat dinner.
My husband & I came in for dinner & decided to sit at the upstairs bar. We were totally glad we did. Fantastic bartender who was also a fabulous server. He was able to describe each dish on the menu we were interested in. He made a great old fashioned as well! Loved the music which added to the relaxed, fun vibe. Food was delicious with an artful presentation. We will definitely return when back in the area. Super cool spot with an amazing menu!!
Great ambiance and good food, but it was loud and a little difficult to hear.
A great place for dinner. The service was quite good as was the food. It was a cold evening and for some odd reason they seated us right next to the door. So, when the door opened a cold draft came across our table. We still had a good time.
My fiancé and I have been coming to Virtue for the past two years and we love the space. Food is amazing and the ambience is great for a dinner date or for a get together with friends and family.
The place was very nice and dinner was delicious. We did feel like our waitress was trying to rush us out. I realize it was busy, but we ordered dinner and were enjoying drinks. Just felt a little rushed.
Went on a Saturday with a friend for Alexandria's Restaurant week - unfortunately I missed the fine print that this restaurant was only offering the special Monday thru Friday (unlike all of the other participating restaurants). That was the first disappointment. Second was the onion ring appetizer - greasy and measly. Both of us had the tacos - just ok. Beans and rice side with one order was good - but the french fries with the other order were mediocre.
Worst of all was the temperature of the room - we ate upstairs at a booth and it was so cold that we had to eat in our winter coats. Very uncomfortable.
The only plus was that the service was excellent.
As always this visit to Virtue Food and Grain was very satisfying. Food was delicious. We were not rushed to finish. Service was excellent. One of my favorite spots.
Had a reservation at 1:30pm, but did not get a table until 2:15pm. Upstairs seating was reserved by a party and reservations overbooked and there were squatters hindering table turnover. Hostess, Manager, and server were very good and frustrated, They did all they could to be accommodating; free appetizers, quick service once we were seated. Brunch menu was not bad, but nothing special.
Great time. Great good. The Manager was amazing and attentive to each guest.
Server was nice... ribs were fatty so she offered a different dish if we wanted. Food doesnt have tremendous flavor but the architecture of the restaurant is fabulous!
Great for lunch with friends. Nice ambiance. Waitstaff very attentive.
Beautiful place with excellent comfort food.
Food and server was great. However, the front desk hostess needs to make sure that people don't smoke in front of the door. I could smell smoke while i was eating because of this.
Nothing really innovative in the menu. Had a steak salad. Asked for medium term and came medium rare, tough meat, excessive dressing. Crab dip was pretty heavy with cream. Waiter mixed up the order. The ambiance is nice but the food is blah.
Did Saturday brunch and everything we ordered was delicious, including our cocktails. Great service and ambiance.
We always love the food at Virtue and the service is consistently great. The only downside this night was being seated right next to the very bright kitchen. It happens. Perhaps a narrow (10”) curtain by the column would still allow movement, but cut down on the bright light to the two top by the kitchen.
So far the only one of this restaurant group’s places I love is Palette 22. My meal at Virtue was so-so and, while the rockfish was tasty, it’s way too delicate a fish for the very spicey rice accompaniment. All in all, an average meal in a very noisy space.
Had a great lunch here several months ago - dinner was quite different. Extremely noisy, chairs uncomfortable, food OK; Matt, our server who seemed to be relatively new, did a nice job. I had requested a quiet table in order to catch up with old neighbors, but apparently they don't have any!
The reception lead was very kind in seeking out the quietest table, and the waiter was first rate: very relaxed but expert on the menu and very responsive. We'll be back!
The cocktails we ordered were very mediocre - watered down with little flavor. Foodwise, the emphasis seemed to be on quantity over quality. Generally disappointing experience and would not recommend to other.
Service and food were superior. The place was packed. Although noisy and sometimes difficult to hear the person across from me, I highly recommend Virtue Feed and Grain for its interesting menu, pleasant staff, quality food, and neighborhood vibe.
I took my big sister her for her birthday. It was both our first visit. What we mutually enjoyed about the restaurant is the restaurant and outstanding customer service. One star deducted the quality of food. My sister wanted her spicy and it wasn’t. My crab dip was warm borderline cold by the time I got half way eating it. Another deducted for quantity. I believe the portion and price of each plate does not match hence rendering this restaurant a no go 2nd time around.
Great vibe but very disappointed to discover that brunch is not served on Saturday, which is not clear on the menu posted on their mobile site (you have to navigate to the “contact” page to get that info). The lunch menu is a bit heavy with limited salad options. Service was great and the restaurant was quiet.
This is the first time we ate upstairs, it is really nice and so was our waitress
Very busy, good food awesome service
Excellent spot for intimate new year’s eve date. We had a great warm/dry view of the fireworks over the Potomac.
This place makes my tastebuds dance. Highly recommend the rockfish.
