Food was great, but it was very cold in the restaurant.
Limited menu options for food. Wine and beer list is very good.
The server got my order wrong and still charged me for the dish that was incorrect. The food overall was sloppily made, drowned in oil and over salted.
Enjoyed the delicious happy hour special cocktails (Crossover Old Fashioned) served in a carved crystal rocks glass and some bar snacks. We were a group of six and the bar tenders were very attentive and served water on the side without our asking, but since we'd done a long walk prior to arriving we were grateful for that little touch. An hour and a half later we were shown to our table and we enjoyed burgers, the trout entree and other items. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was prompt and courteous and the food and beverages top notch. We'd read some less than glowing reviews and didn't want to expect too much, but we were very happily surprised. Oh, and the restrooms were temporarily out of service but Fiorentini (just a few doors down) graciously and happily allowed us their use. The restrooms were later restored to order. All in all a wonderful evening!
I was disappointed. The restaurant is super cute and came highly recommended. Unfortunately, the trout and vegan lasagna were both very salty, but the short ribs and burger were good. We sent back a signature cocktail (tasted like antiseptic grade soda) but the wine selection was great.
great new menu items at out go to spot! We especially loved the tortilla soup!
Such a fun spot with great food and drinks. Sat outside with friends and shared food with cocktails. Will be a go-to spot for me
Violet’s is a few blocks from our house. We keep wanting to make this our go to place, but it never seems to hit the mark. Cocktails are great, but the food always leaves us wondering why we decided to come back. More menu options, and consistent preparation would be a huge plus here.
We ordered the cod and couldn't believe how tiny the serving was. It had a nice tasty sauce over it, but nothing else. If you order cod, that is all you will get. But kudos on the french fries, which were quite yummy topped with shredded parmesan and it was a large serving.
Delicious dinner and wonderful service!
Liza is great!
Food is delicious and staff is very friendly!
We have dined at Violets several times and are usually satisfied. Great fried chicken and salads. Good wines. Good cocktails. One small disappointment this time, the short ribs were a bit dry and the scorched presentation with the brussels sprouts was not so great. We will be back.
The appetizers have a larger serving size than the entrees but if you order right, you'll have enough food!
I just started dining outside after 18 months of cooking at home and Violets was fantastic. I felt safe and comfortable outside. The staff was excellent and super friendly. Food and drinks were fab. I was there from 5:30-7:30 and had a wonderful experience. I can’t wait to return!!
Violet's is a neighborhood gem with an interesting menu and city vibe. I tried the Vegan lasagna which was quite flavorful and my husband had the brisket with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts which he described as cooked to perfection. The tables had a generous amount of space between them and although we ate outside on a chilly San Francisco evening, the space heaters kept us warm and cozy.
Menu too limited
Had dinner there to celebrate my friend’s birthday. I was super late but the staff was super accommodating. Dinner was fab - we ordered from the SF restaurant week menu and added a couple things from the happy hour menu. What a fab Wednesday night. Thank you!
We went because it was our understanding that Violet's was participating in SF Restaurant Week, but when we were seated the hostess gave us the menus, minus the special restaurant week menu. We had to ask for the menu. Three of us made choices off the restaurant week menu, the fourth person ordered a hamburger. The portions were so small. The black cod my husband ordered was so small, he commented to the waitperson about the size, which was not kindly received. The hamburger off the regular menu looked like a slider. The music was so loud we could barely hear each other speak. All in all, the dinner was not a pleasant experience: we won't be returning. There are so many other wonderful restaurants in San Francisco.
I came on restaurant week and was quite surprised at the quality of food. I normally get their fried chicken dinner but had their prix fixed meal of kale and red beet salad, beef rib, fruit trifle for dessert, it also came with alcoholic beverage. The ribs were super tender and the dressing on the kale salad was very tasty. Dessert was a simple collection of berries on whipped cream. Price was a phenomenal $40 but hurry cuz the special menu ends soon.
We were pleased to visit Violet during restaurant week. We were impressed with the food and service. I've never eaten vegan lasagna before, but it was terrific. The kale salad was crispy. The cod my husband ate was perfectly cooked.
We have always enjoyed dining at Violet's and this dinner was no exception, though a one thing seemed odd. The entree size of the cod compared to the chicken dish was noticeably different and insufficient. And not only that, there were two cod dishes ordered and one was much smaller in size than the other! My dining partners were still hungry after their small sized cod entrees whereas my entree was just what you would expect as an entree portion. The cod description included mention of Cauliflower -- we certainly couldn't see it, but maybe it was in a puree? Actual cauliflower florets would have been a welcomed addition if only to feel full. Not a big deal, but it might be worth asking about portion sizes in advance of deciding on your entree.
The food was phenomenal. There was some confusions with the service, but it all worked out.
We had the house salad which was outstanding and large enough to share and we shared the larger fried chicken which was delicious. The fries were cold but they returned those without hesitation and delivered piping hot delicious fries
great neighborhood place for casual dining and drinks
Service was a little slow but otherwise good experience. Recommend the cocktails!
Great ambience and cocktails. Burger, fries and apps were decent. The main plates were just ok.
Was pleasantly surprised! Easy to get a table on a Saturday evening, waiter was super friendly, and the food was great!
Violet’s went above and beyond to provide a delicious, COVID safe dining experience. Highly recommend visiting Violet’s soon!!
Service beyond expectations. Comfortable, cool, enjoyable. I wish every day had a reason to visit Violets.
Our server handled our party of 6 smoothly. Cocktails and dinner were delicious!
Great experice cokies are giant but i think you need to have add avacado as option garlic fries are great and cheesy
The food at Violet's is always reliably good. It's not a big menu but what they do, they do right. 2 of us had the burger which is always great, 1 had the salmon which he enjoyed a lot & finally one of us had the baked chicken which was apparently delicious. It was a beautiful evening so the outside area was perfect. The staff was friendly and attentive.
We went to Violet's to celebrate running my 11th marathon and the staff was so kind about our celebration! Love Violet's and will definitely be back!
excellent. evening was a great success. food and service were terrific. felt like we were some place people wanted to be. recommended.
It's always a pleasure to dine at Violet's. The atmosphere is unpretentious, the food and drink consistently exceptional, and the service beyond reproach. For us, the upside of now having outdoor seating makes it easier for us to have meals out, since we rent an apartment and our landlord allows us to have a small dog as long as we don't leave here alone.
Really inventive food, friendly staff...all around a great little place.
Excellent service. Drinks were also a hit. The best cocktails that I have had in quite a while.
Al Pastor skewers were cold but tasty. The fried chicken was extra crunchy but had great flavor. We highly recomment the Violet salad!
Good drinks and food, friendly and attentive staff, outdoor seating is heated on cool nights. Great place for groups too!
Very good neighborhood restaurant. I love the food there and service is great. However I have tried the cocktails several times and although they are well presented their taste is pretty disappointing. Other than that it is one of my favorite restaurant.
The salad and burgers were quite tasty, service was on point, and the cocktails were excellent. We asked to sit at the bar since the table we were seated at originally was a bit too close to the couple next to us (within elbow distance). The paloma and highball we ordered were fantastic. The only thing this place needs is a dairy+gluten free entrée option.
