Wonderful Valentines Date at Violet’s! The meal was delicious: oysters, amazing polenta and baked broccoli. Great food, attentive prompt waiter.👍🏻👏🏻
I really wanted to love this place. The service was excellent and very professional. The bad news was the food. We started with the Tartare and it alone was good, but the flatbread had lots of salt that just masked the beef on your palate. The Caesar was next. Almost no dressing and what there was resembled anything but the caesar dressing I know and love. We shared the mussels and clams and they were small, overcooked and disappointing. Normally I want bread to soak up the sauce but not with this dish. Presentation was excellent but the taste a letdown. The restaurant was packed and people seemed to love it, so we can have hit an off night. We will not be back to find out. Again, staff is fantastic.
The restaurant is Too cold. A little noisy. The servers are especially nice.
Food was excellent except for the housemade potato chips (a weee greasy). The cocktails with 6 ingredients weren't bad either.
The staff was very accommodating to our small group. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. The food was excellent and the size of the dishes made it easy to share. I had the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp - delicious! I want to applaud our server, who did a top-notch job! Along with the busser our table was kept clean, water was always full and someone was always around if we needed anything.
We had a wonderful dinner at Violets, looking forward to visiting again soon.
Write ahead about garlic allergy. They were so thoughtful to ahead of time outlive what in the menu I could eat. Waiter was lovely! Just after I finished the last bite, the hostess came over to tell me the chef had just realized that he did put garlic in the dish afterall. If it was a peanut allergy, if be dead now....
They were apologetic and comped or meal....I appreciate both. That said...how dumb do you have to be as a chef to make that mistake. Needless to say...I was rewarded with being sick all night into the next morning. Would never go back. My 2 other friends didn't have much positive to say about the taste of their food either.
Cool place. Limited menu but that’s also the beauty of Violet’s. It’s not trying to be everything to everybody. I had raw oysters to start, followed by a...cheeseburger! An odd combo, I know, but it was delicious.
Nice neighborhood spot that is open late. Food is tasty and well-executed. Extremely noisy inside (loud music and people talking loudly). Nothing on the walls to help absorb some of the sound.
Except noise, cozy food/drink place for foggy Richmond.
Our experience was a little too new, kinks need to be workout. Waited too long for reservations, a drink optional but it was not good, food quite good service slow all the way around. I may go back but not for some time.
Great food and drinks. Loved the grill oysters with BBQ sauce and the burger
I love Violets and have always had a great meal and friendly server. I always enjoy the biscuits and was disappointed as they were cold and tasted less then fresh, where previously, they were warm and light. Our server had no warmth and added nothing to our experience and was actually short with us when I asked a simple question.
Our waiter was great and our food was good. The bartenders however, acted like you were a complete annoyance to want a cocktail. No smile, zero speed and no conversation whatsoever. Especially the taller guy. Drinks were great once we got them, but we would never got to the bar again.
Menu a little "underwhelming" while food was fabulous! Service was the best service we have had at a restaurant of that size, volume, and location in decades. Eric was outstanding, as were the bus people. Where are the women, though?
I will sandwich this in-between two positive aspects - the sound was outrageously annoying. The volume level was so loud and obnoxious, we could not even talk with the other people at our table of four. Sounds and people yelling to carry on conversations at other tables bounced off walls, making it as if we were at their table listing to their conversation. This is the reason I would NOT recommend this restaurant. I can't imagine working there all night - way too noisy.
Food was exceptional.....Sea Bream (red snapper) great portion and "chimichurri like sauce" on top for bright citrus and garlic flavor addition, mussels (great tender and small size) and clam dish had depth of flavor and a "creaminess" unlike any other similar dish I have tasted. The soffritto in the clam dish offered a different version of this classic dish - very enjoyable. The chocolate cream brûlée was large and in charge - wonderful mouth feel with a perfectly "warm" brûlée finish.
I don't usually go to brunch because my husband is normally working. We wanted to check out this place. So we did. The cocktail was refreshing. Snack mix was great to munch on. Our cornmeal waffle was dry. You say banana on the menu but it's a plantain. When asked for syrup the waiter said that the Chef doesn't recommended syrup with this dish. It's dry!
The shrimp and grits wasn't any better. The liquid from the frozen shrimp that was used for the dish was on the grits.
It was all a turn off. I don't plan on coming back. I feel that the food was not up to par.
Met old friends for brunch. Food was outstanding. Cheddar biscuits were the big hit. Staff were attentive and food came quick.
Violets needs to discover drapery as a means of shielding indoor patrons from the draft that happens when staff pass through the front door to the outside. People had their coats on all thru dinner. The plates felt like they had been in the refrigerator before coming to the table.
Great staff. Very attentive. Friendly.
Great service, able to seat me early for my outdoor reservation. Solid Violet’s cocktail, yummy food, and attentive staff (but not pushy).
Good food, friendly service. Nice way to spend anniversary. Nice setting, lively (i.e. a little loud). Close quarters (as in many SF places) but patrons friendly too! Looked like lively bar scene too!
So much for using an article in the paper about best brunch to pick a restaurant for brunch… The newspaper must have been a paid promotion which was not claimed as such. I booked a reservation, but none were needed... Plenty of seats. (Who can walk into a brunch on Saturday at 11am in the "Best Brunch" place, and have no wait?! Yeah... We arrived 5 minutes before 11am and the door was open... , and they told us we could not come in yet because they were not open yet. The Bloody Mary was weird at best... It was not consumed, and no one seemed to notice or care. The Shrimp and Grits portions were too small. Shrimp good and cooked properly, but grits were runny and not much of them. Needed a spoon and salt, of which there were none, and no one checked on us. The staff asked how our meal was at the end, but when I said "not great", they just sluffed it off and walked away. It was cold inside. The coffee came with a cold cup. So many things went wrong, and the staff didn't seem to care. Slow service, expensive, not good. I could not recommend this place at all.
We were disappointed, I heard so much about this place, they have a very limited menu, expensive prices and not great tasting food.
Good bartender and the service was fine, but would not go back.
Came at 5:00 with reservations to avoid the crowd. Beautiful restaurant! I got the pork chop and that first bite surprised me in a marvelous way! Looking forward to another visit!
Great cocktails, decent food with quality ingredients and a nice presentation, but lacking a bit in originality/interest. Only two underwhelming dessert options (I’d recommend they work on that). Service was impeccable. The venue has a slick, modern design that feels, however, warm and cozy. It gets very loud, so unless you want to spend the night screaming or ignoring your company, go really early or really late. Still a nice alternative for dining in the middle Richmond.
Unfortunately, I had a terrible second visit to Violet's and all of it was service based. We arrived on a Monday evening and it was somewhat busy but not packed. We had a reservation. I brought two bottles of wine and handed them to the front of house. We were sat at our table and I let our waitress know. She immediately told me there was a $25 corkage fee per bottle. I said, not a problem - I totally understand. Then she asked me where they were and I mentioned I had already given them to the hostess. She left and we proceeded to wait over 40 minutes for the bottle to even come out. We had to send someone up to the front to ask for the first bottle. We then started to place orders for food after being sat for almost an hour. Food started to come out for our group and we had no plates, utensils or napkins. We had to ask two people for them. Then our waitress took our orders but didn't have her notepad so she started to repeat them back but was mixing up everything so she went to get her notepad. There we so many other misses but one of the biggest was when the waitress accidentally broke a wine glass on my friends head. She reached around her to grab the glass and I think spun too quickly, catching my friend's head and the glass broke. She felt terrible but it was just constant misses all night. I hate to assume this service is the regular but no one seemed to step in and resolve any of the issues. I had a wonderful first visit when Violet's first opened but it seems like in the months since something has terribly changed. The food was not as good, the service beyond terrible, it was just so disappointing.
We all got sick after eating at Violet's this past weekend.
Great food, delightful atmosphere, fantastic service!
Loved the space, they were out of a few menu items when we arrived but were kind and tried to offer alternatives. Biscuits are delicious.
So happy to have another restaurant serving quality food and wine in this neighborhood. It is a small dining room so plan ahead and get a reservation, and note that they do have tables outside, but they are on Clement street, so on a nice night, it works, but otherwise you want to be inside. The burger and salad I had were the best in awhile and the servers are knowledgeable and extremely attentive.
I introduced Violet to my friend and she loved it. This was my fifth time eating at Violet.
Delicious food, stellar drinks, professional service. Pricey, but on par for a nice spot in the city.
The grilled oysters and key lime tart were excellent. The rest of the food is ok. The service is amazing. The bar service is extremely slow.
Great service! And the food was incredible. I highly recommend the scallops. The biscuits are so good and their version of rocker-feller oysters were outstanding.
I have eaten there, before ... I'll eat there, again. But, I'll never recommend it to others who haven't experienced it, because of the noise level.
Why this restaurant adds music to the "ambiance," is beyond me.
Terrific spot in the Richmond! Loved the creative cocktails and both my husband and I enjoyed our food. We'll definitely be back!
Charming neighborhood gem, excellent food and cocktails and kind service.
A solid neighborhood spot. The food is decent, but if I didn't live in the Richmond I would not make the journey across town. The portions are reasonable (salads and seafood a bit small), but delicious pork chops and tasty burger. Wine pours are generous. Atmosphere is noisy as it gets quite busy and crowded in the bar area. The tables are squished along the walls and can feel a bit claustrophobic.
Great food, but I do wish they'd do some sound-buffering. It's insanely loud.
We went here to try their brunch considering it's a pretty new place and believe the same owner as Fiorella. Service was good but food was disappointing. My friend and I likely would not go back for the food. Although drinks from the photos on Yelp looked good, so this place might be better for Happy Hour.
Great place and fantastic food. Very delicious and fresh. But at 2pm was the oysters out. That’s was not so good. But overall, fantastic!
