Our table of five enjoyed four different entrees(steak, chicken, sea trout and lamb). All were delicious. Appetizers were also very good. Service was just right. The owner was very gracious and friendly. It was a lovely dinner and we will definitely be returning.
Brought a friend from the UK. My second visit, had a variety of the small plates and the chicken entree- every single last bite was delicious- chef/owner William checked in on us as the meal progressed. Simply an unexpected delight in every way. Relaxed and friendly impeccable flavors, my new favorite place
Took my wife and a few close friends here for her 40th birthday. The food was unbelievably good. Possibly the best dinner I’ve ever had in Seattle. William, the owner, came out to our table and gave us a bit of his story starting restaurants and his philosophy for how they do food at Violet. They went out of their way to make us feel special and even helped us get out in time to swoop her off to a surprise party at home on time. An emphatic 5 starts for William and everyone at Violet.
Nice restaurant with an “urban cool” style and open street feel. Fantastic food that weaves a delicious theme of savory flavors, aromas and smooth textures throughout the meal. Beautiful presentation. Food prices moderate to expensive, but well worth it. Good selection of well priced wine that are all excellent. Service is uneven, but sincere. Highly recommended.
Was a perfect venue for an afternoon dinner date with my bf. Great service and great food as always!
I usually don't write reviews but I feel it's important to warn others that the food portions at this restaurant for the prices they charge are absolutely ridiculous. A $30 entree of fish will yield you a 2in x 2in square of filet. I couldn't believe how small the portion was and I would've stormed out if I wasn't so hungry. Their $15 octopus appetizer consists of 1 small tentacle and ~2 or 3 potato halves. This place is super stingy which is sad because there were some good (not great) flavors. My recommendation would be to avoid this place if you care about value.
I came to Violet after making a reservation for a get together with one of my friends. The service was abysmal. We didn't even actually have a server. The host told us our server was busy so she was going to get us drinks and then the server never actually came over. We had to grab someone every time we needed someone and we were never checked on. I'm usually lenient with bad service being a server and bartender, but this was crossing the line. However, the food was amazing. The chicken was cooked to perfection and everything was prepared extremely well. If the servers get some training or better management steps in this restaurant could really go places.
We are thrilled that Chef William is back in action, creating dishes that are every bit as masterful as the ones we enjoyed at Mistral. We went with the tasting menu for our first visit to Violet and loved every bite. This is the kind of food I find most exciting: visually stunning dishes that highlight the best ingredients of the season, where every element plays a role in delighting the palate with brilliant combinations of flavor and texture. Perfection. Especially good were the beet carpaccio, the scallop with pureed peas, the foie gras with wine-poached rhubarb, and the panna cotta and chocolate soup desserts. The Witches Sour cocktail was also remarkable. Looking forward to the next visit!
First time at Violet. Love the ambiance. Service was great. We had scallop and shishito pepper appetizers, Scottish sea trout, lamb and chicken. Chocolate soup and panna cotta for dessert. All were excellent.
Amazing! We had the fixed menu and each dish was art and incredible.
Excellent food, excellent service. Pricey but worth it. Very warm ambiance. A memorable evening.
The grilled Octopus was divine. They have an Alsace Reisling on the wine list you should try.
Celebrated my Birthday with my family. We have always loved Chef William’s food since the original Mistral. There was a lag between finishing our wonderful appetizers and ordering our entrees. A little miffed at first but our waitress Brenda made up for it. They were understaffed and she was working like no other. She understood our situation and acknowledged it. Everything was just SO good that one minor glitch won’t deter us from going back again and again.
Myself and two friends had a lovely evening at Violet. The food and service was outstanding.
So happy to enjoy Chef Belicki’s masterful cuisine at his newest restaurant. His food never disappoints and the omakase dishes were all equally over-the-top delicious. Will be back soon!!
LOVED everything about Violet. Service was excellent, food was delicious, drinks were unique and tasty, and the special attention from owner William Belickis was the cherry on top. I can't wait to recommend Violet to everyone!
We love Chef William and the gracious atmosphere he creates. His food is fresh, unique and delicious. The menu has variety and doesn’t disappoint. The staff is welcoming and attentive. Karl at the bar is engaging and talented. Sharing a meal with friends at Violet is like being surrounded by family.
“Yeah, your table is over there.” - Hostess/waitress
That’s how we were treated and seated after having made reservations. The service is pretty much non-existent. There was one waiter running around trying to help all the tables but he did a crappy job of it. I don’t blame him because he was obviously not set up for success. Not sure why they are open when it’s obvious that they don’t have the staff to service guests. We weren’t told about the specials, given much info about the restaurant or the food, or made to feel welcome. It took him 20 minutes just to bring water and another 10 to take out orders. Once finished, we weren’t checked on or thanked for coming. Just given the bill and he walked away. And we had to stack our plates ourselves only to have them sit there for way too long. The food was good but portions were tiny for the price and to be honest, not that extraordinary. My husband’s steak was tasteless and unseasoned. The walls need some padding or something to help reduce the noise because everyone was shouting just to be heard. Don’t have a reason to go back!
So pleased that William belickis has opened a new restaurant. One of the best chefs in Seattle. Every item was prepared and plated perfectly
Great food and service, a pleasure. We will certainly be back !
delicious food, friendly and expert service, if you don't think you like fois gras, think again...I can hardly wait to return
The food was delightful, though I wish the portions were a bit larger. We had the scallops, lamb, and duck. The duck was the highlight. Service was outstanding!
The restaurant is very good food and service wise. It's just a little pricey for a neighborhood restaurant for a casual date night or dining with friends. More like "special occasion prices".
It would be easier to hear the servers and the table conversation if the restaurant weren't so noisy; it will be a consideration for a return visit. Perhaps some sound absorbing panels on the walls?
Wonderful dinner. Delicious food and calm ambiance. It was our first visit but coming back for sure. I am already talking about the restaurant with our friends.
We arrived for our reservations a little early, so we grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a drink and appetizer. The bartender (who eventually became our server) was very warm, and ultimately made the experience for us. The food left a lot to be desired, as it all felt plain and uninspired. My husband ordered the beef and I ordered the chicken. Both dishes were good, but we left wishing it had excited us more. Ultimately it felt like a $130 meal we could’ve made at home. All of that to be said, our server was seriously so nice and offered wine recommendations as well as suggested items throughout our meal to enhance our experience. He was genuinely the best part!
Our family and friends have been fans of chef William Belickis for over a decade. Just had another fantastic dinner at Violet and watched the chefs in action.
We had the scallops, mushroom risotto, chicken, fish and burratta. It was all to die for, each dish had such good flavor and didn’t feel too heavy. The service was amazing, and loved the visit from the owner at the end. I want to bring all my friends here!
We had always enjoyed this chef’s previous restaurant, Mistral. So we were excited to see him on Capitol Hill. ( We can walk.) We went on a busy Friday night, but we were seated at our reservation time. Our cocktails took a little while to get to us, but worth the wait. Excellent bar tender. I started with the squash soup, which had a delicious scallop perfectly cooked in it. Everyone at the tale had the rack of lamb, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked medium rare. It was accompanied by baby spinach and artichoke heart. I was too full for dessert, but got a taste of my husband’s sorbet, and our friend’s chocolate soup. This is fine dining, at a reasonable price. I look forward to our next visit.
We went after Violet had only been open a few months. The food was pretty great overall - the Spanish tortilla tasted great but didn’t hold together well, the lamb and duck were bomb, the steak had some good flavors but the meat itself tasted a bit off. Our waiter was friendly and attentive... when he was there - they need to rethink just having two servers on the floor of a relatively large space. Will definitely go back, but may give them a few more months.
Truly enjoyed cocktails, creative food and TLC from server to chef. Gorgeous soup with hidden sea scallop larger then ever seen. We left happy and determined to come back. All of it party enjoyed ourselves.
A little gem. My sister (from Alaska) found this place for when she was visiting Seattle. It was a little gem. Food excellent, yet simple, and refined with a French culture.
I have hopes for improvement. The pedigree of staff and the chef are promising. However the menu is odd. No salads or vegetable dishes. I don't mind a only few choices but it is unusual to have 2 of 5 be duck. (And I like duck.) the food is well executed just not balanced. The squash soup was delicious but scant. Food came out in a disjointed way. Despite asking us how we wanted it served, some had food while others did not.
Here's hoping for increasing options and better kitchen timing.
Awesome food awesome staff.
Excellently done food, fairly classic approach. Not enough bread with the burrata nor enough crackers with the cheese plate. These should be easy fixes. Great drinks and a nice wine list. They need more staff! The people on duty were wonderful but way too busy. Bartender was also the only waiter we saw. Hostess was doubling at bar and filling glasses. That led to gaps in service.
Amazing food! The duck breast was awesome. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The carrot puree was also just as good and I dont even like carrots! Atmosphere is great. Owner greeted each person and made sure the food was to our liking which is appreciated and shows he really cares about his customers. This is my new favorite place in capital hill now.
Food is amazing.
But the waitress got two dishes wrong.
Love this restaurant! Just opened two weeks ago. We’ll definitely be back!
Nice to see William again. And, glad that he was able to retain some of the super staff from Chavez.
Food was excellent--lamb, trout, and squash soup/scallop. Prepared just right. Too bad they were out of duck, but that gives us an excuse to return.
