The Barge in Woolstone is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Built in the early 19th century to slake the thirsts of the men that built The Grand Union Canal, The Barge has been a favourite amongst narrow boaters for many years. The now restored pub restaurant draws guests from all over Milton Keynes for good Pub food and excellent real ale. When you do visit keep an eye out as it is said that former landlord Samuel Savage still visits the building, and he would be over 150 years old now!

Standing near the Grand Union Canal, our spacious pub has delightfully leafy surroundings which attract many walkers and water users. And there are more trails along the Ouzel river, about a half-mile away.

Booked through Open Table for New Years Eve. Restaurant said that they did not receive our booking when we phoned up to checked around 4pm New Years Eve despite us having a confirmation from Open Table and a confirmation number. This meant we had to phone around last minute and find a new place to go. On the plus side The Red House pub in Newport Pagnell has delicious food.

The day we went the service was very very slow! It took 1hr from when we arrived to us actually eating our sandwiches...yes sandwiches not a three course meal! When it did come the chips on the side were barely cooked or warm and my chicken was also cold instead the bread! I’ve been here many times and this has to have been the worst lunch to date. Hopefully just a blip!

We had pre-booked and were really pleased to secure an outside table on such a sunny day. The setting , despite being close to the road, is attractive with soaring trees, the village pond and the backdrop of this historic hostelry. The staff were friendly. We ordered 2 x beef duo from their Sunday roasts and Mrs H, who was less hungry ordered the prawn and lobster starter. When the plates arrived the mains looked like lovely portions with carrots, roast potatoes, parsnips, cabbage, Yorkshire pud and gravy. Unfortunately the ( single ) slice of toast beef on each plate was badly over cooked and totally dry: the rib was also thoroughly cooked through but still moist. The real problem was everything was bland. Clearly Chef doesn’t use salt or any other condiments. In consequence we left moe food than we ate. And the prawns turned out to be shrimps ( from frozen ) and the lobster was virtually absent. The staff at least confronted the issue and were apologetic but since the objective of the outing was to eat it left us very disappointed. We have eaten dinner there on previous occasions without complaint but we will not be going back for a Sunday lunch. Having read other reviews there is clear customer dissatisfaction with the food quality. Apologies from the management are not a sustainable response. SORT THE FOOD.

Great Pub and food - been many times. On this occasion the reservation had been misinterpreted from OpenTable to the Pub and our table for 4 was reserved as a table for 2. The staff quickly had to re accommodate us, which left us in middle of the walk ways which was unfortunate, but there was no other option. It was Mothers day and the food took a long time to arrive for all courses with the main course being cold when it was severed. I think this was just down to how busy the place was. The food was great despite this and the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. A swing and a miss this time for a pub thats always been great. I don't normally write reviews, but I thought this might be helpful to both OpenTable and The Barge as the loss of reservation put them under greater pressure on this busy day.

Excellent customer service from everyone at the pub - really impressive. The food was very nice although I regret they don't serve just plain pork roast with crackling. Also, I didn't like the gravy at all but with a bit of mustard the meal was delicious. Would definitely come back and recommend to friends and family!
