Very disappointed in this place. Firstly it was very hard to find, we spent 20 mins walking around the car park looking for the entry. One of our waiters was fabulous, the other seemed as though she was training - very nervous and not well spoken at all when describing our dishes. The food was sub-par - the menu was boring, serving sizes were tiny and the flavour was under whelming. It is very expensive and over-priced for the quality received. The atmosphere was also very dull and boring. The only enjoyable part was the wine. Definitely would not go back or recommend this place. Waste of time and money
Everything was great from start to end!
Great meal. Wonderful flavors and combinations. Certainly had a wow factor. Only one dessert course though and it was the dullest dish of the 11.
This was one of the best dining experiences of my lifetime. The food / menu was amazing, absolutely first class, and the service was perfect. But the part of the experience we will talk about for years (decades) to come is the Cave itself. It is a gorgeous space that has an incredible collection of art and sculpture unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, certainly not at a restaurant.
Some people might balk at the price to which I say, think about how many “average” $40 meals you have each month, in some cases that you forgot about the moment you left the restaurant. Now, compare that to this $300 meal that you’ll remember the rest of your life. Incredible!
Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was so-so, my wife ordered her steak medium rare and it more medium well.
Absolutely the best dining experience ever ~ we have tasted top restaurants during this vacation in different cities ~ Vintage Cave Club tops it all ~ will return again in the future ~~~
There is no other restaurant like this in the Hawaiian islands. Every course is visually stunning and the care and detail that goes behind it calls for mindful eating
Super uber nice place A+, we recommend to go at least one time in your life!
This was a great very intimate experience. The entrance is located in a parking lot that is pretty difficult to find. Once you find the entrance, your server is actually waiting for you and knows your name.
You then get escorted in and seated. Be ready for a multiple course meal with very sophisticated dishes. This is not somewhere I would go to get full. Food was great and service was fantastic. I suggest saving up your money and trying this place or one like it at least once.
Absolutely THE BEST dining experience on the planet! If you have the occasion to go to the Vintage Cave, go and you'll soon be telling everyone about the service, food selections, interior of the restaurant, wines and other drinks, etc. From every perspective, Vintage Cave is TOP SHELF! It provides a quiet evening to talk with your guests in an unhurried atmosphere. You don't notice the service but everything is happening around you in a timely manner.
Each course was truly an experience - appearance, taste, etc. We've been fortunate enough to come here before and we're hopeful for the opportunity to come back again (and again and . . .). It is not inexpensive but by the end of the evening, you've had an experience you'll remember forever.
a great experience , thought each course couldn't be better than the previous, I was wrong.
You must experience there!!
Not only food, everything wonderful 🎵
Interesting dining experience, to say the least. Place was nearly empty, quiet and romantic. We did the sushi tasting menu. Fish selections were fresh, bites were well crafted, and the meal was well proportioned. We had no idea what we were eating - the sushi chef only spoke Japanese and there was no one to help us understand the meal. The other servers were mostly absent and we had to wait a long time to get a refill on sake, etc. The decor was a showy mixture of French wine cellar chic, fine art, and unusual asian design elements like multi-jewel toned chandeliers and animals made of gem stones. All these over the top elements that didn't really go together and reminded me of a drug lord's house - like an asian Scarface. Anyhow, we did enjoy ourselves.
Great place to be pampered with excellent service, presentation and food. Steven, Randy, Toshi and Charlie waited on us from minute we walked in and throughout the evening. We spent over 3-1/2 hrs there, enjoyed every minute. We appreciate the staff's willingness to attend to our needs and requests. Definitely a 2 thumbs up.
One of the most spectacular dining experiences of my life. Highly recommend it for a special occasion. It is very expensive but worth every cent. The combination of food, service, ambience and Decour is what makes it a spectacular experience. At the end of the dinner a tour is given of the restaurant and it's various spaces and rooms. It is truly a unique and wonderful ending to the whole experience.
We eat at 3 or 4 Michelin-starred places a year. Michelin doesn't go west as far as Hawaii, so choosing Vintage Cave was a matter of reading and taking a chance. It was both pleasant surprise and a shock. The surprise part was that Vintage Cave was as good as you would expect from it's reputation and price point. Too many Michelin restaurants don't live up to their reputations: food, service and/or attitude are off. At such prices and with one or more stars, you expect perfection or close to it, but often don't get it. So the pleasant surprise at Vintage Cave was that it exceeded expectations - it actually was 3-Star quality. The shock was how they exceeded even the best Michelin 3-Stars in unique experience and great (humble) attitude. You'll read that Vintage Cave is a "hidden' oasis of quiet sophistication buried oxymoronically inside a mall; that's true. You'll read that it displays part of the owner's private art collection - also true. What you won't read is that your "waiter" is a sous-chef who is your liaison with the kitchen. He explains your 14-course menu without a trace of the usual arrogance or boredom, and asks your food preferences so they can adjust, even at the last moment. When my wife said she preferred to not have caviar on one dish, they substituted - get this - cypress seeds, which looked and actually "popped" like caviar does, with a taste that complimented the dish. She preferred to not have fois gras; they substituted a dainty piece of tandoori chicken which perfectly completed the dish. The wine pairings were creative and spot-on. They not only printed a pair of menus with our name (the usual custom these days) but re-printed them twice unasked - first to reflect the changes to my wife's menu, and then to add all the wine pairings. Both were signed by the executive chef who came out and greeted us personally. Then, just before dessert, the entire kitchen team came out and greeted us. All somehow done humbly. I could go on, but - wow!
Such a unique dining experience. More than just a dinner. The artwork collection is unbelievable.
REVIEW IS FOR SUSHI RESTAURANT IN VC
I am a complete foodie in which I travel and seek out the best restaurants in new towns. When the check came ($800 for two) I felt robbed. The sushi was good but nothing was a 'wow experience'. We ate at onodera as well and the worst course there was better than the best at VC... not to mention it was a fraction of the price. The sushi rice was good but not great. Nothing was very inventive and creative. The pics of sashimi that look amazing must have been from the French VC restaurant that we should have gone to in the first place. I wish I could get 80% of my money back and then I would feel there was some value to this meal. 4 star experience minus one star for how expensive the food is.
Not easy to find but the concierge sends you an email with detailed instruction of how to get there. If you cancel less than 48 hours from the reservation you are charged a fee. This is certainly not a restaurant for the faint in pocket change, justified perhaps for a special occasion. I went there with my husband for our 25th anniversary and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is dim, quiet and relaxed. You get a lot of attention but it's not overwhelming. We had the 10 course chef's tasting menu. Before the courses even started, we were treated to three different "Amuse bouche." The courses were all 2 bites size each and the best way to describe them is that they were all a variety of flavor bombs! Many times my husband and I closed our eyes while savoring the bites, I looked over the other tables and I noticed another couple doing the same. All I have to say is the chef knows what he's doing. It's hard to pick a favorite dish but here's some that stood out: the caviar and leek cream, the lobster with green strawberries an the hand cut tagliatelle with shaved truffle. they also make their own homemade variety of delicious mini sized breads with butter.
For that EXTRA SPECIAL OCCASION, unless you got it like that! Top-notch service as expected, but expected MORE for $400 per plate!
It was my birthday & I really wanted to try this place out. I was told by many it was pricy but, I didn't care (our bill for 2 was just about $1,200.00). So, I jumped on the opportunity when I saw it listed on Open Table. The moment we arrived I was impressed. The service was top notch, decor was amazing, & the food outstanding. Each & every dish (12 pre fixed) was unique & the right portion size. There is so much more I can say however, there's not enough space. I highly recommend saving up to dine here, set your date, & splurge. I will definitely be going back for my next special occasion.
Enjoyable experience with great service and quality of food. Great selection of wines. Enjoyed the quiet setting for a very special occastion.
Looking for a memorable experience- amazing food, wine and service? Go to Vintage Cave! This is the place your dreamed of going to so go. They can adjust the menu to whatever you desire. Very friendly staff. The best service!!
Truly an experience of a life time!
If you are looking for that "special place" to visit, this is it! We had dinner on New Years Eve 2014 and the entire staff were outstanding. Not rushed, friendly and extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. Their tasting menu is unbelievable both in terms of presentation and taste. Each portion seems like to can't be beat till the next portion arrives. It was and evening of "Wows!"
We didn't do the wine pairing and instead ordered a few bottles of great wines at a fair price (actually underpriced for the quality of restaurant and service).
We felt honored and privileged to be able to have dinner here with our family while enjoying the food, art, etc. At the end of dinner, they provide an informal tour of the art that rivals the dinner in terms of excitement. We'll DEFINITELY be back and will bring more friends next time!
