Vinology Ann Arbor Ratings and Reviews
This was my first time at Vinology. The menu was inviting and creative and we thought to give it a try for a birthday lunch.
Positives: friendly waiter, creative and tasty food (for the most part), quiet (easy to have a conversation)
Negatives: Pricey for what you get. A group of 6, no alcohol, lunch menu - came to over $100 + tip. The coffee was $3.50/person and we had to keep asking for our cups to be refilled. We waited quite a while for our food, and asked if there was a basket of bread or something to nibble on as we waited, but nothing was available. One negative on my meal - I ordered eggs over medium. They were completely runny. I had waited so long for the food, I didn't want to send the eggs back and hold up our entire groups' meal, so I just kept the dish. The eggs came with 2 small pieces of dry toast - I was unable to use the toast to soak up the yolk of the egg. For $12 I certainly expected more. The dish was called "Eggs your way" - I think not!
Immediately greeted by a very kind hostess who pulled up our reservation and seated us with no wait. Soon after we where greeted by our server Matt G who did an amazing job throughout the course of our meal. Wonderful experience and would definitely return.
My boyfriend and I tried Vinology a month ago and it blew us away. I have a severe dairy allergy and my waiter, Juddison, was very attentive to that, which made us feel very comfortable there. It is difficult to go out to eat with an allergy and this place was very accommodating. We loved the food, drinks, and atmosphere so much that we have taken all our guests there since.
The restaurant does a good job overall . . . seating, service, food. However the overall experience was very impersonal . . . . it appeared to be all about throughput . . . getting tables turned quickly. Dined during restaurant week and it was a prix fixe menu. It was the quickest we have ever dined from start to finish, and where some would say that is a good thing, we like a more relaxed tempo in dining at an establishment of that caliber.
I went along with 3 other friends for restaurant week. For $28 the portion size was too small and to me unacceptable. The salmon size was ridiculously small. We left Vinology and went to another local restaurant for more food. I should not leave a restaurant establishment spending $28 for my dinner and feel unsatisfied due to inadequate portion size.
We went to Vinology for a birthday dinner and had wonderful food and delicious wine as usual. The deconstructed Caesar salad was especially lovely. The only problem was the raucous screaming for the entire 2 Hour dinner by the folks in the adjoining booth. We could barely talk to each other.
Definitely a menu for those who like to venture out and try unique new things. I eat a lot of strange food but this menu is one of the most unique I’ve found. I didn’t like the octopus, sadly it was fishy. But we LOVED our wine! Yum! Will be back for DRINKS!
Wine good as always. We had the vegan cassoulet which was ok and fjord trout was good but the spinach was somewhat stringy. The decaf coffee was unbelievably good and hot. Dessert ok. Our friends had the small Cap ribeye which I think they enjoyed. Server was a bit out of it. Somehow he missed the mark that this place deserves. Despite this lukewarm review we like this place.
Such a nice place to be, even on a cold night. Beautiful decor, not too noisy, nice service people. The manager even came by to wish me a happy birthday I loved sitting at the bar until the rest of my family arrived and the drinks were superb. None of the food was spectacular but there were lots of yummy, healthy vegetarian options. Everyone enjoyed their meals except for my husband's trout, which was under-cooked and too heavily sauced.
This was my 4th or 5th visit and I'll be back again!
The food was fantastic, wine delicious, service great and environment very welcoming. The prices are a bit higher than desired, but that was expected when dining here. Additionally, it would be much nicer if Open Table allowed requests for particular table types. I was seated at a high table with my party when we would have much preferred a booth. Unless I am mistaken or missed an additional comments box, I did not see any option to request that.
