When the plates arrived we thought they forgot to put the food on it. The sizes were ridiculously small. I ended up eating all the bread with butter for dinner...
First, it was really cold in there. Uncomfortable. Second, the server wasn’t really helpful with questions and seemed like he didn’t really want to be there. Finally, the food was a miss. The gnocchi needed some sauce but there were way to many flavors going like leave out the anise. Other dishes were likewise lacking or trying to hard.
We’ve had one good experience here. And about 5 blah ones.
We ordered Caesar salad, heirloom tomato salad, short rib tacos, Greek octopus, and finished with ice cream. Everything was good.
Great little find on Main st in Ann Arbor. We like to go get mimosas for brunch. They are good for food allergies and will work with your needs. Also vegetarian options! We like the wine flights and sitting outside watching the world go by!
Wonderful anniversary dinner! Thank you!
We dine out a lot so our views may be skewed. It was loud but it is a bistro type place. We do not drink alcohol therefore the wine was not a factor. Service was really good. Phil! First salads were tomatoes that were not ripe. Sent back. Second salads were lovely in presentation but mediocre in taste. The entrees were beautiful but very average tasting. (Chops and scallops.) Flatbread with figs, outstanding. Very high price for what we were served. We are not averse to paying a lot for good food so you are not putting us in the poor house (dated phrase if there ever was one). See you in 5 years.
I went for my 5yr anniversary recently, and not only did the staff take care to mention us well wishes on our special day, but to thank us for our patronage. The entire restaurant was very clean and the atmosphere is very versatile. I could see going for brunch or afternoon drinks, as well as a big tapas dinner with friends, and an intimate meal. I really like what they have created here.
Also, my girlfriend is vegetarian and we found at least a third of the menu worked for her needs. This is a great spot in downtown Ann Arbor!
I choose this restaurant over others because the menu seemed unique and I always love a good wine list. We shared a few things including the cheese board, the tacos, and an entee and overall the food was very tasty. The wine list was also impressive and we both found flights and glasses that were really delicious. I probably won’t come back to this restaurant because the overall ambiance seemed nice at first, but we got stuck at the worst table in the restaurant. Nicer restaurants like this can totally ruin the experience when you get stuck in a cold corner between the exterior walls. It just wasn’t the nice dinner date ambiance we were hoping for. Plus there’s so many other restaurants in this town that provide a better overall experience.
We had an okay meal this time at Vinology the food was a tad cold and service was just average, love the ambiance and bar vibe but not sure we will go back
Attentive and knowledgeable server. Very good food (brie, octopus, beef, tomato and goat cheese salad, very good chicken preparation!) Excellent wine choices and advice!
The atmosphere was energetic with a decor in keeping with the name. The noise level could get very loud when nearby tables get noisy (bachelorette party). In keeping with the name, Vinology, I would expect that appropriate white wine glasses should be available. The waiter checked for us, but none were carried and we drank our white wine from very large red wine glasses.
Service is poor
The service was great, food at par, ambience was decent and overall experience was okay for the price.
Been to Vinology a few times. Every time has been great. Obviously, their wine list is extensive & wonderful. Their dinner portions are quite large, so if you're hungry, but not THAT hungry, order the 1/2 portion! Highly recommend this place. Two thumbs up!
This has been one of my favorite restaurants for 8 years. I have not had an opportunity to visit in a few months due to moving out of town, and I was not disappointed. Everything I have always loved about Vinology is even better! Great wine list that showcases Michigan wineries, delicious and creative food, friendly staff, fast service, and some of the best people watching in town on the patio. Where else can you get sparkling wine on tap? #lovethisplace
Food, wine, ambiance, and server were all phenomenal. Chef's cheese flight was way bigger than expected and everything on it was delicious. Flatbread and gnocchi were both incredibly tasty and filling. A waitress serving another table talked really loudly, but our server (Matt) was very attentive and timely (and spoke at a moderate volume). A little pricey for my usual tastes (I'm kind of a cheapo) but it's a great place for a special occasion.
Ate dinner here after freshman student orientation. Sat outside on a lovely summer day. We ordered 4 vegetarian small plates: beet salad, quinoa salad, a flatbread, elotes, and a dessert. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, generous in size and delicious. This was more than enough food for two. Only disappointment was the churros for dessert--herbal and a little fruity; we prefer the classic churros and chocolate well-prepared and crisp to this more innovative iteration. Service was well paced, and the wine selection here is obviously carefully considered. We had a malbec which was delicious, and presented by a knowledgeable server. Would definitely make this a regular choice for visits to Ann Arbor.
Great food and amazing wine! Loved our booth in the bar area. Character and lively! Waiter was good, but over taxed on a Friday night. All in all though, we had a great time, ate way too much, and drank some amazing vinos!!!!
The food was the best I've had in a long time. I can't wait to go back!
I have not eaten at Vinology for a long while (years), but had very positive memories of it - namely that dishes were creative combinations of flavors and textures and all around tasty. I ate here, tried bites of different meals, and have to say that overall the experience was...flat. Everything was fine, but there was no wow factor, either in terms of the novelty of ingredient combinations (the menu is nearly the same as the last time I was there), or in terms of execution (the duck was overdone, the gnocchi were seared but this did not impact their texture).
Great night out! Excellent service, good wine prices and good food.
Great service and food!!
The lamb loin chops very tasty and the beet salad healthy portions. Bravo!
The cheese plate and wild mushroom gratin apps were uninspired and boring. The gnocchi was outstanding on all levels, and the beet salad was well executed and balanced. An excellent wine list, the Jardin en Fleurs Vouvray from the Loire Valley is a wonderful hidden gem. Wait staff was on the impatient side, and really seemed out of their depth when it came to descriptions, or recommendations. Do your research on what you want to try, before you go.
We tried several dishes, octopus, duck wings, salmon, two different salads, and Scallops. Some of the dishes were hit and others were misses. I would recommend the scallops. Other than that I don't think anything else was that amazing especially for the price. I think that other small plate restaurants in Ann Arbor are consistently better and at a better price for what you get (consistency wise). Didn't try the wine or pairings so maybe if you want to go out for dinner this may or may not be right up your alley. The ambiance was great and service was good.
Excellent food but takes so long. Been there twice and both times it took 30+ minutes just to get our appetizers.
Birthday dinner! They were fabulous.
Had a great experience. Good food and service. Loved the brunch near bottomless mimosa!
Went for restaurant week. They had a great menu! Loved the chicken and the lamb.
We had a great meal, though, had an obnoxious waiter who didn't want us to use salt and pepper. I understand that a chef seasons things to his taste, but when you're in the service industry and a patron wants fresh ground pepper, bring them pepper without the pretentiousness.
This is a tough review to write because two out of 4 meals were terrific and two had to be sent back. The response to the meal faux pas from the restaurant staff and manager was top notch and the replacement dish well received. In the end everyone was very satisfied with the evening. The cap of ribeye was fantastic.
A very pleasant experience. Excellent and interesting food. Great service.
The staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. I like the full/half size entrees option. It allowed us to try the small plate selection and appetizers before the half-size entree. It was more than enough to eat without having anything wasted. Presentation was well done. Fun and delicious salad!
Terrific happy hour with great beef sliders and half off wine by the glass
Nice Mother’s Day 2-course offerings - something for everyone and well executed.
Our meal consisted of an interesting mix of flavors and colors and was very good. The service was excellent as was our choice of wine. We would likely return when we are in the vicinity.
Food was excellent, service was attentive, dessert was wonderful, wine was a good choice
I took my boyfriend here after his graduation, they had a special menu which was exquisite! We had wine pairing and the food was absolutely more than willing to die for. Our server was very knowledgeable on wine and what to pair with the food. The dining experience was phenomenal and the food was beautiful and very satisfying to enjoy. We will definitely be returning.
Unusual dishes, nicely displayed. Trout was very good, steaks were thick, perfectly cooked. Caesar salad pretty, but disappointing, 3 leaves drizzled in dressing perched up around a bed of the yellow part, very small. Not worth the $. Cornish hen fillet? Too small for the price. Charcuterie board very small with 4 paper thin slices, thin shredded ham, less than 1/8 cup, dandelion greens and 4 blackberries, a few blueberries. Sauces were flavorful, bread fresh, great cheddar cheese but only a tablespoon full. One small chunk and a few crumbs. $24 SHOULD GET YOU JUST A TAD MORE.
Service was ok. At first felt rushed, very few customers, had 3 young ladies with us , mid twenties for post college graduation and he kept pushing the $99 wine, even after they started they would like a less expensive suggestion. One dinner never came, all of a sudden waiter wasn't coming around. Finally he realized what happened, she or her dish when the dessert menu came. Over all good tasting, atmosphere simple, not much to look at. After speaking with manager they took the late meal off, and then some. Total bill was about $400 for 6 people, they took $80 off. Would give them a chance but the Abbotts table red wine best wine ever.
