We had a delicious meal promptly and cheerfully served but by a waiter who was obviously overworked. We felt bad for him. We were seated at the last table in the back which was a bit distracting as people were scraping plates and dropping silverware just a couple of feet away. I’d eliminate that table or have the section somehow obscured from view. In addition there was a tomato stain on the tablecloth under the glass by my seat. It’s the little things that could be corrected to provide a truly great dining experience.
Been there a dozen times or so and as always the food, service (very attentive) is outstanding (no North End parking issues ) food is always consistent. Staff very knowledgeable and love the interaction with them makes for a comfortable and Family friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.
My current favorite dish at Vinny's is the shrimp fra diavolo with angel hair pasta. The sauce has a little kick to it but it actually brings out the flavor of the succulent jumbo shrimp. A perfect and incredibly delicious meal.
Frequent diners here. Outstanding food and service ( eggplant parm, lemon chicken, pasta, spinach ). Despite an overflow crowd service was great. Nice people; great restaurant
Last night I had the haddock in a fresh Tina tomato and basil sauce with angel hair pasta. Out of this world! The fish was perfectly cooked, tender and juicy and just melted in your mouth. The sauce was light and delicious, and the pasta also perfect.
I love Vinny's. My current favorite is shrimp fra diavolo, with a spicy red sauce that actually brings out the flavor of the super fresh jumbo shrimp. Fabulous!
Great Neighborhood character combined with great Italian fare. Casual dining, in homey setting - a little close quarters but with really nice attentive staff . Definitely recommend.
A great experience from beginning to end. Started the meal with cocktails; followed up with a lovely antipasto for one (more than enough for the two of us). Main courses included the stuffed calamari fra diavolo and a special that night of veggie stuffed eggplant, both served over the home made pasta cooked al dente. Very large portions and both delicious.
Service was alert but it seemed the servers really had to hustle when the room filled near 7:00. Friendly family-feeling atmosphere. Wide range of patrons; it appeared everyone was having a nice time. The restaurant is divided into a front deli type store with the dining room in the rear. Pretty easy parking on the street.
Prices are moderate, just a bit above cheap eats, nice affordable wine list.
We didn't try dessert.
Will be back for sure!
Hidden gem. Huge portions and authentic food. Treated a party with kids very well.
Vinny’s has the best Italian food in Somerville. Waitstaff is friendly and down to earth. Nice wine list.
We loved the food, especially the homemade ravioli of the day (ricotta filling with a shiitake mushroom sauce; outstanding!) and the lamb osso bucco. The wines were so-so but they were not overpriced. The place was fun, funky, we will definitely go back. We will definitely NOT go back on a weekend. We had a 7pm reservation for 3 and were seated at 7:50 after several people without reservations were seated ahead of us. It appears as though regulars are given preference, reservations or not. We then waited 45 minutes for the main courses to arrive. We did not book until Friday (for Sat night) and had our choice of times; I don't understand why they were still taking reservations that they clearly would not be able to honor. Do go - just don't expect decent service on a weekend.
They really know how to cook seafood! I had the seafood spectacular fra diavalo. It was the best I’ve ever had!
Delicious like always, It was Mother’s Day, and busy, so service wasn’t as good as usual. Still Highly recommended
I specifically asked the waiter if the double pork chop was available.
He assured me it was available
I told him I didn’t want two single thick pork chops
He then reassured me it was a double thick chop
When the order was delivered` it was two single chops
He lied to me and then `his` other servers agreed with him
Ive been a customer for 25 years but will never be going back
Great neighborhood Italian restaurant. Fresh, wholesome food. Great flavors. Specials are always great. Nice to eat out and be able to talk and hear each other without yelling or straining.
Awesome Veal & Eggplant parm, as usual!11
Get together with our sons and a girl friend on a Saturday night. Very busy evening but the wait staff managed the crowd well. Good food in informal setting. Good value and will return again.
Continues to be our favorite casual Italian restaurant. The food ( seafood, chicken , pasta were great. Service excellent always. Will return
We made a reservation on Easter Sunday only to go and for them to be closed.
Excellent food - excellent service. Will return.
Great Italian food. Homemade pasta and classic recipes reminds me of Uncle Danny’s house. It’s the first restaurant to do that!
Amazing as always!!! Can't wait to go back!!!
Excellent food and service! Will definitely recomend
The wait staff were great...had no leftovers, ate everything!
As always the food is amazing.....never disappointed
Had heard about this place from different people and tried it for my birthday - excellent and large portions, so got two meals out of it. We'll definitely go back. Parking is tough. Some street meters, but none to be found (Monday night).
Great menu. Food always delicious. Love this place.
I have been dining at Vinny's Restorante for over 40 years and the food is consistently DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding Italian food. Great servers. Love this local place
Great food in a welcoming setting. Double cut pork chop with vinegar peppers is a standout. Arancini is a great starter. Best marinara. Service is always perfect, no rush, friendly.
Get the stuffed veal chop. You wont regret it.
In a word, Vinny's was great! When Bosotn gets too cold and damp and slushy, there's only one thing I need: Vinny's veal osso bucco. It's deeply satisfying--warm, richly flavorful, and filling, both of body and soul. So in the last week, I went to Vinny's twice and both times needed and got the ossu bucco (I actually much prefer the veal to the lamb, and the veal comes with risotto, but I prefer either pasta or the fantastic potatoes and vegetables on the side, becuase I like my osso bucco straight). Both times I thought "this is the best comfort food I've ever had!" and it was just as good the second time as the first.
Vinny's is an incredibly friendly place. Both the staff and the other customers seem happy to be there. I love Vinny's, and I especially love Vinny's veal osso bucco!
Nice family restaurant with friendly service and very good food.
Whether for a romantic dinner for two or a fun surprise dinner for out-of-town friends, we love Vinny's at Night.
Excellant food. Very tasty Excellant value. Great service
Vinny's is a great find! The food is good, simple, fresh Italian food. I recently had the fresh pasta with the eggplant parmigiana and it was delicious. The restaurant is in the back of an old fashioned Italian delicatessen and is relatively small so it's a good idea to make a reservation.
Valentine’s Day Dinner
Seeing old friend
So we heard about Vinnys and we’re doing a quick long weekend visit to Boston from Florida. Getting our annual winter dose of cool weether. I made a Valentines evening reservation and we were in for a treat. It was in what looked like a scary part of town. The old place is on a corner not so appealing but once inside and seated on time the owner and staff were attentive and friendly. And the food was awesome. We weren’t rushed and didn’t feel like they were pushing us out the door for our table. Great family restaurant and I will go back when we return. Lots of finer dining in Boston but this place is worth giving a try if you so dare. Try the tiramisu it’s killer. Thanks again to all there. Ciao
Love Vinny's! The food is always top quality, abundant, and the homemade pasta is incredible!! In all of our visits, we've only had one dish we wouldn't recommend, the osso buco was very bland tasting although very tender. My husband was eating off of all our plates, wishing he ordered traditional Italian rather than the veal osso buco. He didn't leave hungry but he definitely wished he had ordered something with more flavor. I highly recommend the haddock stir fry (in the garlic sauce or red sauce)--I never order anything else (it's that good!) We'll be going back--it's a wonderful place with wonderful food!
