Vineyards Wine Bar & Bistro
We went to Vineyards Wine Bar & Bistro for their buck a shuck. The oysters were fresh and delicious. We also enjoyed the most delicious & tender calamari. The place was packed...a testament to how good it is. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed our evening there!
Fantastic food...great ambiance. Cozy on a cold evening.
Friendly staff, flavourful food - If you're tired of over-sweetened and heavy salt/MSG foods we are exposed to everyday, you'll appreciate the flavours and seasoning here - from bread dipping, coconut curry mussels, beet & goat cheese salad to shrimp linguini, my mom and I loved every bite!
Had a wonderful evening celebrating with friends. The service was attentive and efficient, and the food was delicious! Great options for those with various dietary restrictions (vegetarian, dairy allergy). Fantastic wine and beer selection- truly something for everyone! The very reasonably priced wine flights offer a great opportunity to try something new and we enjoyed each glass. Wonderful spot for a date night. Will definitely come back!
Fantastic great food. Excellent service. A nice place not to be passed by.
Wonderful evening with excellent wine choices and the jazz musician really added to the relaxed atmosphere. It is now a favorite when we come for meetings in the Capital.
The restaurant is located downstairs seemed nice enough we were positioned in a corner for a group of seven music was rather loud could be because of the speaker that was located right overhead took a while to be graded service after that was OK meals ordered included the variety of meat and pasta one of the meat dishes with fries was basically and had a ball they did credit it off the bill overall everybody in a party thought the experience was just OK won’t be going
Always an awesome experience- service is outstanding and best oysters in town!
Great food and service. Good beer and wine selection.
Really enjoyed the low key atmosphere with excellent food and wines. Lovely pasta dishes for my husband and myself and good wines to accompany the food.
Out with a friend to give some new beers a try. Tried the beer flight which had a decent combination of beers known and new to us. Went around mid-week which meant it wasn't very busy or noisy which made for a great environment to catch up with an old friend
The night we showed up the kitchen was out of commission so the staff provided the menu from the Fish Restaurant upstairs with their wine. Seemless and we could not tell there was a an issues except that they informed us. Food was as was the wine. Service excellent. Right in the midst of the Byward Market.
We made a reso for two on a Friday evening at 8:30. I recognize that downtown Ottawa is busy, and restaurants need to try to squeeze as many as possible, but we were seated in a far corner (the last possible table), where the view was the kitchen door, as well as the men’s and women’s bathrooms. Therefore, we watched people wash their hands, servers kicking open the kitchen door through the first 45 minutes. It took about 15 minutes for someone to greet us and take our drink order, so we ordered the entire meal at that time. Once the place started to clear out, we asked if we could move to one of the empty tables that was not facing the bathroom users. The ladies dining beside us expressed the same opinion regarding the atmosphere/view. When you look at the photos of this restaurant online, the only photograph the left side of it, likely because the right side is a completely different, far less lovely view. The food was fairly average, the tortellini is the packaged tortellini you buy in the fridge section of the grocery store. After the meal, a friend was asking if she could join us for a wine flight, I asked who I can only assume was the manager if we could switch to a four person table on the other side, where he proceeded to actually argue that we should want to remain on the right side as it is ‘romantic and intimate’... which it it most certainly is not, and what is the point in that comment when the restaurant is basically empty at this point? We were geared to spend about 200$ and about 15 minutes had went by without us seeing a server. They had taken my friends wine glass accidentally, so we poured the wine into an empty water glass. When someone did come around, they filled that water (wine shaped) glass with water, and then said that we would have to pay for another glass!! These guys all share tips, and we aren’t the people that don’t tip, but with the exception of Stephanie, this was a complete waste of $200.00, this place is not concerned with service
It was a special occasion for my friend and I. We had reservations for friday night at 7:15. The bartender sat us at our table. It took a while for the waitress to come by. She finally did and seemed pleasant and somewhat rushed. The bartender came around shortly after and asked if the waitress had explained the appetizer special. She did not so he did. We finally ordered and that was the last we saw of her until it was time for the bill. There was no follow up whatsoever from her. The bartender did come around after we had finished eating to inquire how was the food. The food was good. Unfortunately for us, a party of 7 young men were sat right beside us half way through our meal (ball caps and all). They were extremely and continuously loud to the point where we could not hear each other sitting across our table. It felt like we were at a pub and not a wine bar & bistro. It was very annoying but we were half way through our meal. This was not the evening I had envisioned for our special occasion. We decided to skip dessert and after drinks as the noise was not pleasant. We continued our evening elsewhere as a result.
Service was slow and the food was mediocre. Had oysters that were small and milky. My shrimps and scallops were another disappointing dish with tiny shrimp and pieces of scallops served on a bed of carrots because they didn’t have any other vegetables except root ones. For a wine bar, I expected a better selection of wines that we’re expensive. The restaurant needs a major renovation. Like my husband says “it’s a two time restaurant” the first and the last.
Great wine selection, food and service.
Great music and wine
Perfect place to get to know someone, intimate, private, chill!
It was mediocre at best . We had visited many times in the past and stopped as we found alternative with outstanding service and quality. Will not get into the details but we just find it is not what it used to be
It was our anniversary and we had an amazing time. We had our first date there and the staff made us feel like they were just as excited! Thank you so much
We were really excited to try a new buck a shuck oysters place but they were the worst oysters we ever had, dry and full of shells and even the wine and shallot sauce was awful. We were super disappointed! Maybe the rest of the food was better but we didn't stay to find out. The service wasn't friendly, either :(
We went for the jazz and it was truly amazing. The food was delicious too. But the service was slow and completely ruined our overall experience. We had to wait 30 minutes before a server took our order for drinks. We had 2 kids with us under 10 and the server didn't bother to bring us kids' menus! The food took way too long to come. We asked for a bread basket because we so hungry while waiting for our entrees and the server brought the bread basket halfway into our meal. The ambiance is nice and so is the jazz. I would recommend this place but expect slow service!
Always loved this place the ambiance and the staff are always excellent
Not our usual evening to come here however, same excellent service, great coffee and smiles as usual. The tortellini with shrimp, the fried brie with blueberry compote and caramelized onions and the crème brûlée were ll top notch. The solo guitarist/jazz signer added a touch of romance to the evening.
The service from Shannon was excellent!
One of my favourite restaurant for the food, the ambiance and the service ... I love Vineyards!!
My absolute favourite restaurant whenever I’m in Ottawa
havent been there in 10 years...still the same quaint, lovely spot. dont change...very nostalgic. thank you for preserving something special
there was some musty smell; probably because it is in the basement??? could check the air quality.
The tortellini plate was so delicious! Best plate from by husband
I love the wine flights and the atmosphere at Vineyards! The food is also great (that charcuterie and cheese board is excellent, and the desserts are always superb). The jazz was wonderful and the service was great, as per usual. Thanks!
Great wine list
Food is good and service great. In the middle of Byward market it is a good stop in Ottawa
Super musicien, musique bien choisi. Service respectueux
Steak was a bit of a challenge for one of the guests but everything else was great, including service.
Excellent wine, very good food and good value. (The night we were there, oysters were "a buck a shuck"---and they were delicious!)
Restaurant with great food and wine. Very good service! Pleasant climate with jazz playing. Recommend 100%!
This restaurant was VERY cute. Great romantic date where we celebrated the weekend for Canada day and my 30th birthday with my husband. We had the cheese platter and the tortellini. Both were awesome. We also used the groupon for the 2 flights which was a reasonable price. Without the groupon the flights of wine and beer would have been a bit pricey.
As always, food is awesome and the wine was chilled to just the right temp tp accompany the oysters! One of us had the 17$ fries and the superb side of steak was wonderful and cooked just the way they liked it! Service is always very good as is the coffee. Totally enjoyed the dipping bread in spiced oil and my bride could not lave without her "crème brulée"! Until next time!!
Arguably one of the best wine lists i have seen in quite a while with very interesting "wine flights" to enjoy and contrast a number of quality wines with your meal.
Will definitely return to this restaurant when back in Ottawa.
Each one of us in our group of four people very much enjoyed our meal, food was well presented, hot and delicious! Good ambience and service excellent; only negative would be the cold air from the air conditioner blowing directly on us, (mentioned to waitress but no improvement). Oh and wine prices a bit too high for regular visits unfortunately.
