We really enjoyed our time at Vinci!
The restaurant was still quiet when we arrived for an early dinner but it soon was packed and the noise level was loud! We did notice that being 30 year olds (who already look young) we were easily the youngest couple in the restaurant. Just FYI! This isn’t a young and hip restaurant but it’s definitely worth going!
The woman who took our order was amazing and really made us feel right at home. She talked to us a little bit about the menu and helped us decide between dishes. We guessed she owned the place but not sure on that. Really sweet lady!
The handmade pasta dishes are excellent and I’m already looking forward to eating my leftovers tomorrow.
The veal was perfect, as well.
Dessert was pana cotta and it was yummy, too!!
Overall, no complaints.
Superb service from host to waiter and bus staff, delicious food and large portions at reasonable prices (think leftovers). Waiter exceptionally kind and attentive, allowing us to have 20 minutes to walk to Steppenwolf. Highly recommended.
The sausage and goat cheese appetizer was good. The frito misty was crisp, but a little greasy. The octopus was rubbery and our two pasta dishes , the pappardelle and a special of spaghetti were way salty and lacked balance. The diplomatic dessert which was supposed to have dark chocolate mousse, had a light colored mousse that wasn’t chocolaty enough.
Very nice atmosphere and good food. I’m gluten free and appreciated the gluten free menu. The gf pasta was quite good but I would recommend adding sauce to the veggie pasta.
Amazing combo Steppanwolf and Vinci makes a great day
Good service, wonderful food, cozy place, friendly people
This is the second time we have chosen Vinci pre-post theatre. Once again a delightful meal; extremely attentive service; an obvious neighborhood spot as we saw others pouring in the door, being greeted and meeting up with friends. Valet service is an added benefit for those of us driving in from the northwest suburbs!!!
This place never disappoints. I particularly like their wine list, excellent wines at reasonable prices. Very efficient service which is important given how many of patrons are going to local theaters.
Where can you go for a great meal in a cozy/homey space when last minute you have a group of 6 on a Saturday night? Vinci! Consistently good food, unique specials, and staff who are knowledgeable and attentive - there when you need them yet not hovering when you don't.
Great neighborhood spot.
Delicious, high-quality food and great service! Would highly recommend
The meal, service, wine accompaniment, and atmosphere made for a most enjoyable evening.
Would have been better if table of loud teenagers weren’t across from us! Father didn’t reprimand and with other customers complaining manager should have talked to them! We had to keep asking to quiet down. Not enjoyable!
Great place for special day events, birthdays, anniversaries, visitors dinners out etc. It's also good as just a place to go for good food and service. The dining space is very relaxing and is not crowded or uncomfortably noisy. There is a wide variety of Italian food on the regular menu and a specials menu with some more unusual dishes. Service is excellent and prompt. All and all a very good restaurant to go for a special dinner and just to treat your self to a great meal.
We had a lovely dinner at our favorite table with our favorite waiter.
The food was wonderful. We shared a pizza with onions and butternut squash. The crust was delicate and flaky. It was probably the best pizza I have ever had.
I had a salad with endive and crunchy pair and my friend had the minestrone soup. She couldn't stop raving about it.
The bartender is great - started the evening in the bar with some wine and appetizers. Later had dinner in the dining room. Food service was surprisingly fast. Enjoyed the salmon and the pork chop. Service was attentive. Good alternative if you're attending an event at the Steppenwolf or the theater building across the street.
Bartender may a fabulous gin cocktail. Food and service was absolutely perfect. Highly recommend
This is a perfect place to eat either before or after theatre at Steppenwolf or Royal George. The food was delicious and they have a tremendous number of gluten free items...which both of us have to have, including pizza and pasta and they have GF bread, too, to dip in the delicious olive oil! We will certainly go back.
Good food. Close to Steppenwolf and Royal George
Vinci is always great. Their Bellinis are delicious and the salmon with quinoa that I had was fabulous! Service was awesome!
We went before going to the theatre. The frittata was good.
Friendly knowledgeable service. Great authentic Italian food. Nice wine selection. Perfect for dinner before or after a theater performance at nearby Steppenwolf.
Service and food were great! Enjoyed every minute there and so convenient to Steppenwolf Theater.
Small criticism. We had a large party (10) for a special birthday dinner. The restaurant seemed quite understaffed for the evening and were very overwhelmed by the moderate dinner crowd (although they tried very hard). We were seated about 30 minutes after our original reservation. They managed pretty well once we were seated and everyone enjoyed themselves.
We’ve been here many times before. We’ll never go back. We had a reservation for a table for two for a Sunday evening. No one greeted us when we arrived. We stood there for several awkward moments before they showed us to a table right in the highest traffic pattern of the restaurant. The service was terrible we had to wait at least half an hour to get an offer for an appetizer or glass of wine. The food was terrible. In fact, if we had not been going to the theater later that evening, we would have returned the pasta dish that we ordered. All in all, a really terrible dining experience at a place that used to be fun and familiar.
While the food that me and my girlfriend ordered were decent, it was the gelato and sorbet that we really enjoyed during the meal. We ordered the gnocchi and the pappardelle which was satisfactory at most, they were ok but nothing really special. The gelato and sorbet really saved our meal in Vinci. Service was pretty good and the food arrived fairly fast for the number of people in the restaurant, since we came in with the restaurant pretty packed. Overall it's was a decent experience
My wife and I ate at Vinci as we usually do before attending Steppenwolf Theatre. While we always enjoy our dinners there, the food was even better than usual. I am not sure if they have a new chef, but there were some new items on the menu and the vegetables served with the meals were very creatively prepared. Our service was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable, as usual.
Very enjoyable. Food was excellent. Perfect Maple Manhattan was indeed Perfect and very good too. We will be back. Perfect pre show the staff is very aware of curtain times at Steppenwolf.
Vinci is really good. One of our favorite restaurants
We often eat at Vinci prior to seeing a show at Steppenwolf Theaatre. We love the warm friendly atmosphere and the food and service never disappoints. It has a great bartender as well.
Great ambiance, terrific service, and delicious food. The only negative was that my husband and I were seated in a semi-private alcove, which could have been fabulous. However, the only other table nearby (and RIGHT next to us) was a group of six or eight co-workers and we could hear every word of their non-stop conversations. So less romantic and more forced eavesdropping than we would have liked.
My wife and I dined at Vinci after a performances at the Steppenwolf Theater on February 11, 2018 We have dined at Vinci a number of times in the past after performances. Compared to our prior visits we felt that Vinci had declined in several areas. The service was mediocre. The bread was stale. The house wine was a lesser quality. The food was also lesser quality. Our dining experience was disappointing and we are unlikely to return.
The coffee could be better, but otherwise the food was good.
We had a big group and the service was outstanding in meeting our needs. All the food was delicious and fresh. Wines were good.
We celebrated our sister's birthday again at Vinci. They are so nice, accomodating, wonderful food and ambience!
Our favorite place to eat before Steppenwolf. Very convenient, good food, almost always good service. This time the service wasn't as good as usual, but we have been there many, many times, so we will overlook that and return soon.
After Steppenwolf, Vinci is our "go to." Always great food, attentive staff and good value. The imaginative cocktails always hit the mark. Go easy on the fantastic bread, or you'll be full before your meal comes.
Consistent and tasty, if a little sauce heavy. Went for brunch and asked for a bit of bread and butter. They brought two small slices of ordinary white bread and charged me $2.00. That was just annoying. I think B&B should be included with brunch egg dishes. Call me crazy.
Good food, good service and perfect for after theatre.
Excellent service and food. Great place for someone with Gluten issues. They have a different menu and everyone is aware and careful to this concern. Looking forward to our return.
Very loud table of women celebrating a birthday too close to our table for two which we had asked to be private so that the conversation was possible
