Good, reliable, neighborhood Italian restaurant. Convenient before or after Steppenwolf performance.

Why is this restaurant still open!

On time for our reservation we were asked to sit at the bar and have a drink as our table was not ready. An old ploy to build a tab. When we objected as we had a theatre time we were sat immediately.

We ordered two pasta dishes. In one dish the pasta was so over cooked it was mush. In the other, the pre-cooked “squid-ink” pasta was served in masses of inedible clumps. Bits of other white pasta types stood out amongst the black squid-ink pasta. See photos.

The waiter never returned to ask if food were ok. Attempts to flag down waiter were unsuccessful. and after some time I had to walk across the restaurant to had him my credit card so we could leave. His comment as I handed him my card (no check was left”....”You do have time for desert.”

We have had many great dinners and great service here before the theater. Last night, however, was an exception. Guess it was understaffed but servers would go by without giving us eye contact and I had to get up and go to the front to get a knife needed for my wife to eat her entry and to get the wine I had pre-ordered, but was not delivered, for my entry. Long wait for water refill or more bread because servers don't look at you. Also, no carpaccacio, which is now only a special and used to be a delicious steady part of menu. Didn't have one of our regular waiters but the whole gestalt of the place not up to par.

Many of my fellow diners enjoyed thriving meal, but my risotto was a problem. So rich I could not enjoy it, and risotto is one of my favorite foods.

I hadn’t been to Vinci in years, but decided to try for a pre-Steppenwolf dinner. The service was excellent —friendly, efficient, professional. The food was very good as well. We shared a salad that was good and plenty for 2, a mushroom/truffle “gnocchi “ appetizer—so rich and heavy, but so delicious, and a squid ink pasta with seafood that was recommended by the waiter—really good! The atmosphere was maybe a bit dated compared to other Chicago restaurants, but the service and food were outstanding—I’ll be back!

The service at Vinci was incredible! We felt like we were the only people dining in the restaurant because of the level of service we received. They were so accommodating of my gluten free lifestyle, too! Cannot wait to go back!

We went for the brunch and it was very good. prices on drinks a little high. Ordered a MILD BLOODY mary, but could not drink it, as it was very spicy. replaced it with champagne, and enjoyed that.
I think for the prices, the champagne should have been included. Nice atmosphere. Would go back again for brunch.

We have eaten here many times and enjoyed ourselves. This time the food was not good and we were very disappointed. My husband's meal was very salty and my short ribs with pappardella were so tough I couldn't eat the meat. Another in are party had risotto that was way too much rice and not much seafood. Too bad as I am not inclined to give this place another chance as there are so many other choices within a couple blocks.

Really enjoyed how accommodating the restaurant was to make sure our party felt like family. They were flexible with eating restrictions and a last minute change to the reservation and we couldn't be more grateful. The food was excellent and the dessert out of this world. We couldn't be more grateful!

Service was absent. First course arrived with my entree and after I refused it, a second attempt was made to deliver it to me. The item was not removed from my bill until I asked.

we arrived 1.5 hours before the theater. 3 people in our group. Ordered: 1 pasta, 1 salad and 1 fish soup. They managed to have us almost miss the theater, as the food arrived 15 minutes prior to curtain. We repeatedly asked where our food was, no response from hostes

We are Steppenwolf subscribers and alway go to Vinci before the theatre, despite the fact that there are a lot of restaurant choices in the neighborhood. The cocktails are great, as is the bartender, Clyde, the food always really good, and the waitstaff time everything perfectly to get you out in time to walk down the street to the theatre. A perfect evening.

This was our first visit to Vinci and it was delightful. We were attending an evening play at Steppenwolf and decided to have dinner beforehand. It was a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was not that busy during the time we dined. However, the bar scene was fun, the service was great and our meals were outstanding. The staff was wonderful and the bar server was an all-star. From just a people-watching perspective , it was obvious Vinci capably serves both a regular local neighborhood group who expect and appreciate the special attention they receive as well as a crowd of theater goers who are experiencing the restaurant for only the first ( or second time, maybe}. From the menu, the braised short ribs and the chicken saltimbocca were outstanding!

Vinci is a great option for anyone in the neighborhood for a play or movie! The location is fantastic, right by the Steppenwolf, Royal George, and Arclight cinema. The food is good, reliable Italian classics. They also have great wines and good deals on quarter- and half-bottles. Great spot for a date or when family is visiting!

My friend and I had been having dinner at Balena before going to the theater. Since Balena closed, we decided to try Vinci again. The menu is very nice, with interesting choices. Service was excellent. My friend really enjoyed her veal. I had 2 apps instead of an entrée. Both were Ok, but were quite heavy. We will probably be back, but I will make different choices.

Found this gem online and couldn't be happier. It is a family-owned Italian restaurant that reminded me a bit of Italy. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious! We sat outside and enjoyed the evening while sipping wine and eating pizza. The arugula salad was wonderful! They are sensitive to GF and even offer GF pizza and brought me GF bread with oil/cheese dip. We ended our evening with limoncello and grappa. Delicioso!!

Vincis is a favorite spot for elegant dining but casual business wear is fine. The food and the wine list is exceptional Italian dining to our taste. Always looking for a reason to go there. Be ready to valet park.
