Small criticism. We had a large party (10) for a special birthday dinner. The restaurant seemed quite understaffed for the evening and were very overwhelmed by the moderate dinner crowd (although they tried very hard). We were seated about 30 minutes after our original reservation. They managed pretty well once we were seated and everyone enjoyed themselves.
While the food that me and my girlfriend ordered were decent, it was the gelato and sorbet that we really enjoyed during the meal. We ordered the gnocchi and the pappardelle which was satisfactory at most, they were ok but nothing really special. The gelato and sorbet really saved our meal in Vinci. Service was pretty good and the food arrived fairly fast for the number of people in the restaurant, since we came in with the restaurant pretty packed. Overall it's was a decent experience
My wife and I ate at Vinci as we usually do before attending Steppenwolf Theatre. While we always enjoy our dinners there, the food was even better than usual. I am not sure if they have a new chef, but there were some new items on the menu and the vegetables served with the meals were very creatively prepared. Our service was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable, as usual.
Very enjoyable. Food was excellent. Perfect Maple Manhattan was indeed Perfect and very good too. We will be back. Perfect pre show the staff is very aware of curtain times at Steppenwolf.
Vinci is really good. One of our favorite restaurants
We often eat at Vinci prior to seeing a show at Steppenwolf Theaatre. We love the warm friendly atmosphere and the food and service never disappoints. It has a great bartender as well.
Great ambiance, terrific service, and delicious food. The only negative was that my husband and I were seated in a semi-private alcove, which could have been fabulous. However, the only other table nearby (and RIGHT next to us) was a group of six or eight co-workers and we could hear every word of their non-stop conversations. So less romantic and more forced eavesdropping than we would have liked.
My wife and I dined at Vinci after a performances at the Steppenwolf Theater on February 11, 2018 We have dined at Vinci a number of times in the past after performances. Compared to our prior visits we felt that Vinci had declined in several areas. The service was mediocre. The bread was stale. The house wine was a lesser quality. The food was also lesser quality. Our dining experience was disappointing and we are unlikely to return.
The coffee could be better, but otherwise the food was good.
We had a big group and the service was outstanding in meeting our needs. All the food was delicious and fresh. Wines were good.
We celebrated our sister's birthday again at Vinci. They are so nice, accomodating, wonderful food and ambience!
Our favorite place to eat before Steppenwolf. Very convenient, good food, almost always good service. This time the service wasn't as good as usual, but we have been there many, many times, so we will overlook that and return soon.
After Steppenwolf, Vinci is our "go to." Always great food, attentive staff and good value. The imaginative cocktails always hit the mark. Go easy on the fantastic bread, or you'll be full before your meal comes.
Consistent and tasty, if a little sauce heavy. Went for brunch and asked for a bit of bread and butter. They brought two small slices of ordinary white bread and charged me $2.00. That was just annoying. I think B&B should be included with brunch egg dishes. Call me crazy.
Good food, good service and perfect for after theatre.
Excellent service and food. Great place for someone with Gluten issues. They have a different menu and everyone is aware and careful to this concern. Looking forward to our return.
Very loud table of women celebrating a birthday too close to our table for two which we had asked to be private so that the conversation was possible
Arrived for dinner at 6 pm reservation. Staff was very attentive to our 7:30 theater schedule down the street. Didn't feel rushed but the staff knew we had a timeline. Thoughtful service combined with excellent food.
Food is good and this is a good choice for the nearby theater, but CAUTION ABOUT THE VALET PARKING SERVICE! And the restaurant doesn't care or help!. Valet "lost" our car keys and just laughed about it when we came to get our car. Vinci management at the front desk just stood there and said nothing, helped with nothing, acted like we were from Mars. The valet conveniently "found" our keys at another, different valet stand a block away ONLY AFTER WE CALLED TO CHICAGO PD. OK to eat here - park your car somewhere yourself and keep the key.
Really good Italian food. Period! The eggplant was very well prepared. The sausage and peppers were grilled to perfection (and I got the tomato sauce on the side so as not to distract from or overwhelm the natural flavors of the sausage or the peppers). The sausage was quite flavorful.
Vinci is our pre theatre choice for dinner.
This visit was spoiled by a serious heat
Problem. On a night where the temperature outside was 4 degrees
After about 10 Minutes of feeling very
cold at the table was given I complained
t the manager. He quickly admitted to a
heating problem hat as being addressed.o
The heat came on about him 1/2 way
during our meal
Thins the manager and staff should
have noted the heat issue before seating
Or serving s
New Year’s Eve
Food was good, prices were a little high. But the service was very friendly and I loved the bread.
Table was waiting attentive courteous staff. Wait staff knowledgeable menu and wines.
The food was great and the service was top notch. We had a party of five and were seated very comfortably. Our waiter was attentive and knew the menu well. He was able to recommend well received meals for the picky people in my group. Great place
My wife and I came here for a nice dinner prior to attending a play at the Steppenwolf Theatre just down the street. Could not have been more pleased with the food, service (FAST!) and overall experience. My first time there, and it was a great meal experience.
We held our wedding at Vinci 20 years ago and now wanted our teenage children to enjoy their wonderful dining experience and that we did! Thank you Vinci — the food, wine, service and ambiance were exactly as remembered. Here’s to hoping we’ll return sooner next time!
Special daily menu offerings are consistently a great option to chose. Servers are very knowledgeable and provide excellent guidance.
Went for dinner prior to a play at Steppenwolf Theater. A cold Chicago night. Unfortunately the restaurant was freezing and understaffed. We initially were seated at a table, but asked to be moved due to the cold. We moved to where more people were seated, a few degrees warmer but many had their coats or jackets on. I believe the furnace/heater was broken.
We noted that the service was a little slow. With only one waiter working our area and the same person doing all of the seating.
The food was tasty but hard to enjoy because we were so cold. We had much better Italian food 5 night earlier at a different restaurant.
The food at Vinci's is as good, or better, than it was 20 years ago when we lived in the neighborhood! A great place for dinner before the theater at Steppenwolf or Royal George Theaters. Service is professional and experienced, the food is lovely, and the portions are perfect.
