Vinci Ratings and Reviews
Food is good and this is a good choice for the nearby theater, but CAUTION ABOUT THE VALET PARKING SERVICE! And the restaurant doesn't care or help!. Valet "lost" our car keys and just laughed about it when we came to get our car. Vinci management at the front desk just stood there and said nothing, helped with nothing, acted like we were from Mars. The valet conveniently "found" our keys at another, different valet stand a block away ONLY AFTER WE CALLED TO CHICAGO PD. OK to eat here - park your car somewhere yourself and keep the key.
Really good Italian food. Period! The eggplant was very well prepared. The sausage and peppers were grilled to perfection (and I got the tomato sauce on the side so as not to distract from or overwhelm the natural flavors of the sausage or the peppers). The sausage was quite flavorful.
Vinci is our pre theatre choice for dinner.
This visit was spoiled by a serious heat

My wife and I came here for a nice dinner prior to attending a play at the Steppenwolf Theatre just down the street. Could not have been more pleased with the food, service (FAST!) and overall experience. My first time there, and it was a great meal experience.
We held our wedding at Vinci 20 years ago and now wanted our teenage children to enjoy their wonderful dining experience and that we did! Thank you Vinci — the food, wine, service and ambiance were exactly as remembered. Here’s to hoping we’ll return sooner next time!
Went for dinner prior to a play at Steppenwolf Theater. A cold Chicago night. Unfortunately the restaurant was freezing and understaffed. We initially were seated at a table, but asked to be moved due to the cold. We moved to where more people were seated, a few degrees warmer but many had their coats or jackets on. I believe the furnace/heater was broken.
We noted that the service was a little slow. With only one waiter working our area and the same person doing all of the seating.
The food was tasty but hard to enjoy because we were so cold. We had much better Italian food 5 night earlier at a different restaurant.
We dine at Vinci often. The food is good and the service fine. However, it would be nice if they could seat large, very noisy parties in the back party rooms. We were dining with another couple when a party of 14 was seated right next to us. They were unbelievably loud even when they first arrived and became even louder as they drank. I finally had to ask the maître d' to move us to another table since we could not even converse with our friends. The entire dining room was complaining about the noise level and the offending guests could not have cared less. One of the worst dining experience we've had.
Real Tuscan food; solid wine list. Friendly service. Pleasant, low-key ambiance. And at bargain prices. This place really is a gem. Go there with someone or someones you really want to talk to. For a primo, order the eggplant appetizer or the octopus. For pasta, the tagliatelle with veal ragu; for a secondo, the pork chop (outstanding), the veal, or the hen. You can't go wrong.
Why is this restaurant still open!
On time for our reservation we were asked to sit at the bar and have a drink as our table was not ready. An old ploy to build a tab. When we objected as we had a theatre time we were sat immediately.
We ordered two pasta dishes. In one dish the pasta was so over cooked it was mush. In the other, the pre-cooked “squid-ink” pasta was served in masses of inedible clumps. Bits of other white pasta types stood out amongst the black squid-ink pasta. See photos.
The waiter never returned to ask if food were ok. Attempts to flag down waiter were unsuccessful. and after some time I had to walk across the restaurant to had him my credit card so we could leave. His comment as I handed him my card (no check was left”....”You do have time for desert.”
We have had many great dinners and great service here before the theater. Last night, however, was an exception. Guess it was understaffed but servers would go by without giving us eye contact and I had to get up and go to the front to get a knife needed for my wife to eat her entry and to get the wine I had pre-ordered, but was not delivered, for my entry. Long wait for water refill or more bread because servers don't look at you. Also, no carpaccacio, which is now only a special and used to be a delicious steady part of menu. Didn't have one of our regular waiters but the whole gestalt of the place not up to par.
