Delicious food for breakfast. Very friendly service. Thank you for the great Start in the day
The food was absolutely delicious. One of the best dinners I've ever had honestly. And I've eaten at a lot of great restaurants. This place is off the charts!
The food was very poorly described on the menu for both the dishes I chose. I explained what was wrong when asked and they comped us the food - but not what we had hoped for. Manager came to apologise but too late!
They went above and beyond for us and made my birthday celebration a huge success!
Excellent meal, cool lobby, accommodating servers. And we had no trouble at all getting to the Orpheum for a 7pm show with a 5:30pm reservation.
Brunch before Hamilton matinee . Good service, good
food. Would come again.
Great duck and cocktail, over cooked ‘catch of the day’.
Best halibut I've had in a long time. Ambiance was wonderful and staff was very attentive.
Well done, we had small plates, they were excellent.
Jim was a skilled server.
Villon - you can do better on the burger. Dry beyond edible, doesn't come with anything beyond the bun, patty, some orange sauce and a slice of cheese. We didn't even get the pickle. Bun was good at least!
Very good we chose to dine here before seeing Hamilton. Very good. Just right quality & quantity.
Very cool vibe! Everything is homemade and delicious!
Food presentation was wonderful and delicious. Glad we made reservations.
The menu is fairly short, maybe 6 items to choose from for starters and main courses. The server was very helpful, asking about food allergies right at the beginning. For starters my companion had a kale salad and I had some raw fish paired with (I think) shiso leaves and little crunchy spicy bits, and a sort of eggy fishy foam, which all worked very well together. For main course I had the pork chop, well cooked with a very rich sauce/gravy, that came with a spicy salad mixture that really offset the richness of the pork; my companion had duck, which he also liked. The desserts are quite large, probably meant to share, but I couldn't eat most of them because of a nut allergy, so I had the blackberry chocolate dessert, which was blackberry ice cream, blackberries, chocolate sauce, a whole brownie, and a chocolate crispy cookie thing, which was altogether too much, I would have loved it without the brownie. I wish they had had just an ice cream or sorbet dessert to finish the meal more lightly. Final note: they know how to brew proper tea, in a big heavy metal pot, using loose tea.
Villon is a decent option before a show, but I wouldn't make a destination of it. The food was solidly good, but not at the price point. I found the entree portion a bit small. We ordered the Hawaiian bread with the yummy jam, but again, way over priced for one roll. The service wasn't warm and I had to ask for water refills several times. The decor is lovely. The noise level was high, but not impossible for conversation. All in all, I'd eat there if I needed a last minute reservation. Otherwise, there are better options in the area.
Great place to eat before the Theater! Cute, good food, quick service.
Fine experience. I liked my dish more than my husband liked his. Great atmosphere and service. i will definitely go back.
Will definitely come back! Food and service were great!
Great food! Please try the Hawaiian bread, brussel sprouts side, and pasta. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
Love the location and, though the menu is small, the items are varied and of excellent quality.
This place was wonderful from start to finish. We enjoyed some bread and the nachos then had main courses that were excellent and ended with four exceptional meals.
Food portions are lacking, but the beautiful backdrop of the bar makes this place a lovely place for a girl's brunch.
The last time I was a Villon, the menu and food were magnificent. They had a chocolate pasta that I was craving all the way down in LA. The chef has changed and the menu is completely different. Thr brussel sprouts and Hawaiian bread were great. The rest of our meal was so so. The drinks are good and the waiters are wonderful.
I met two long time friends here whom I haven’t seen in years. We sat and had a leisurely 3 hour lunch. I was wary of Villon because it’s gotten some spotty reviews lately but our experience was perfect. The waiter was very patient with us. I didn’t feel forgotten ever. They did not push us either to order and leave. The food was very tasty. My only small gripe was that portions were a tad small (the tostada was really tiny! We had to order an extra chef salad to share to make up for the size of the tostada) and it is pricey. But it’s a beautiful space and was all worth it to catch up with dear friends.
Great food, great service. We had dinner before the 7:00pm showing of Hamilton. We were a bit upset that our food came out so late (patrons next to us were seated after us and were already on dessert when our food came!), but they made it right by comping appetizers and a round of drinks. We loved the aesthetic of the place as well. Will come back.
Amazing food and service. Small food menu, but lengthy bar menu...everything super yummy.
We went for brunch and the food was delicious. I thought it was a little expensive for what you got but it was good and the service was great.
The portions are *small* Like, a 34 dollar branzino entree had possibly 2 oz of fish on it. It was offensive. What did they do with the rest of the fish? Ive never ordered brazino and not gotten the whole fish. Maybe if the menu read 1 branzio filet I could take responsibility for leaving hungry. The starters were ok but for 4 bites of food at 16 bucks a pop, I really need to have my socks blown off. And when spending 450 before tip for 4 people, had most certainly better leave full. Wont be back for food....
The decor is friendly retro, mindful or flapper era with soaring high ceiling, light colors with a base on long blue and white pinstripes. Seating is on stools, with some tables and booths. The back bar features shelves and bottles from the counter to the ceiling, perhaps 20 feet above the bar. The drink menu is long and interesting. My rye drink was aptly named "Comme ci come ca" despite the innovative prospect of combining flavors of rye, jagermeister, brandy, creme de pesche and bitters. Perhaps the bitters bottle was overused.
On the Appetizers portion of the menu, the Hawaiian Bread is delicious, a clear cousin to our favorite sweet breads on Maui and Molokai. Also excellent is the delicate juxtaposition of flavors of the pinwheel - delicate puff pastry disk topped with a spread of chicken liver mousse, bacon Granada and tiny strawberry. Among the plates, we chose the King Salmon, which was a minimalist presentation of a plane 4 inch square of fish with barely any representation of watermelon radish or Beurre Blanc. Neither the presentation nor the taste had much of interest to offer. On the other hand, the side dish of Brussels sprouts was a generous serving of quartered sprouts sautéed and seared to a savory dark brown with tiny cubes of bacon, garlic and onions. The strawberry tart made a delicious finish with cream cheese coated pastry under small berries and a slightly tart contrast of strawberry sorbet.
Three people came to our table to welcome us, but not one of them provided any service. The waitress didn't arrive until 10 minutes after we were seated. While we were waiting three of the service staff bumped into the back of my chair on the way by, but only one of them acknowledged the contact. Our wait person said all of the words one is accustomed to hearing, but felt rote, not committed to actual satisfaction. Too bad. It's such an easy thing to do. Still, its a good restaurant with some excellent offerings. Ditch the aprons.
not a varied menu, but everything was delicious, Great service! Always a great experience!!!
Lovely, well thought out and carefully prepared dishes. We tried two small plates, three mains and two desserts and they were all delicious. Our server was delightful and very mindful that we needed to be at the theater by 6:45pm. Also the sheer convivence of being close to mass public transportation made it easy to get there and the show afterwards.
The decor and atmosphere was excellent. The food was amazing with great blends of flavors. The service was very nice and quick.
We went here before the theatre because it’s right down the block. It was not hard to find, but it was not clear how to get in and where the restaurant was. However, when I asked, the person was helpful enough to get the guy in charge who sId I had signed up for tea, not dinner (which hadn’t started yet), and that when I reserved there was a small disclaimer that was hard to see (yes it was). He said we could have dinner wen it started and that sounded good. However, it took about 45 minutes to get tea. We had to flag down a server and then she was very slow. The service we got for dinner was terrific and that meal was very enjoyable. So go for dinner, but maybe think twice for tea.
Well-orchestrated from start to finish...can’t go wrong with Villon!
Wonderful food. Creative. Different. We shared our dishes, two apps and an entree and it was just right. Perfect before seeing Hamilton which is just a block away. This hotel (Hotel Proper) also has a very nice rooftop bar. I would definitely go back to this restaurant.
We loved Villon. Each had different unique and signature cocktails and 49 to choose from and entertaining just reading the descriptions. Were very tasty. Then shared a kale salad and brussel sprouts among 4 of us as shareable portions plus dinners and that was delicious and fun. Service was fabulous. Would go back!
The food was to die for and our server Jim was outstanding! He was informative, personable, and seemed to like his job! He made our experience the better for being there! I couldn't recommend this restaurant higher!
Great waiter, great food
Service was spectacular. Food was delicious. Ambiance was beautiful. Prices were stupid high.
