Going to see a play at the Orpheum Theatre, needed to find a restaurant close by. Villon was perfect. 5:30 reservation got us in and out in plenty of time for the show. Food and wine were delicious.
Great service! Food was awesome! We were going to Hamilton that evening and they asked us before we even told them so had dinner with plenty of time to spare! Want to come back for the rooftop bar!!
This is an artful, elegant spot with excellent service and a thoughtful menu and beautiful decor.
Small quaint restaurant. EXCELLENT service. Small portions and expensive. (What isn't in S.F.) But everything tasted good! Down the street from Orpheum at the Proper hotel. Opens at 5pm, but can get drinks in lobby next to restaurant.
Nicely decorated, not too fancy. Service is excellent, but not over done. Food was great, we had brunch, innovative take on eggs with avocado, sweet potatoes and salad. Not too much food but didn't skimp. Great cappuccino. Close to Orpheum theatre and parking.
Excellent all the way around!!!
For a hotel this is very good. Perfect location for a great dinner before a show
WAY over priced ... and I rarely think restaurants are overpriced. You decide. They recommend "family style" ordering as so we did. We ordered Hawaiian bread; 1 entree: short ribs (approx 6-7 oz. with fava beans that were only a garnish, not a serving); 2 sides: brussel sprouts (very nice), and potatoes (seasoned oddly with mint that would not have paired well with any item on the menu); no drinks, only water -- $100 including tax and tip. This is essentially a bar with a limited menu for people in a hurry who are willing to pay for the convenience of being near the theatres. We would not go here again.
We went here before a show at the orpheum. Service was fast and excellent. Food was great too!
Great place for ladies’ brunch!
Fantastic food and service. It is on the pricey side, but well worth the value. It is loud due to the high ceiling.
Went here before going to the Orpheum Theater for brunch and loved it!!! So surprised that it was not completely full. The ambiance was refreshing, the food was delicious (just about everything is made in house - including the English muffins), and the service was ideal: friendly, attentive, and warm. Definitely have to go back for tea and dinner. We had cocktails, including the Bloody Mary, that were all VERY GOOD. Ricotta pancakes were heavenly, avocado toast with a side of bacon, breakfast sandwich, and the Villon breakfast - everything was DELICIOUS! It is a little pricey but well worth it!
Great location for Orpheum theater and the Strand. Enjoyed our dinner a lot. Brussel sprouts were amazing, and fairly expensive. Cod dinner tasty. The waiter was very attentive and worked hard to get us our check early and be out in time for theater.
Food is delicious. Portions are very scanty for the price. For God sakes. At that price point, provide bread. If you must charge, provide more than 2 rolls for 3 people. WINE PRICES ARE A TAD HIGH OR OROVIDE A FEW GOOD BETTER PRICED zins and S. BLANCS.
CHICKEN MOUSSE.. COD AND NACHO.. AMAZI G. SHASHIMI PRICEY AND INADEQUATE PORTION
Small menu, but high quality items on it. We had the tartine and the ricotta pancakes. Tasty, but it was pretty pricey (although that's expected at hotels). Their tea and coffee were delicious. I wish there had been an option to order a pastry and a coffee. That would have been enough for me. As for service, we were ignored for a while, as the main server walked back and forth not acknowledging us (after telling us she'd be right with us). Once a second server came to help, things went very smoothly. There's not a whole lot of breakfast options nearby, especially on a Sunday, so we may be back.
Super disappointing. Not just that food was average and uninspired, but the kitchen doesn't seem to be interested in trying. I ordered short ribs and asked for any non-starch vegetable instead of beans, and I got back a plate with nothing on it but one little 3 inch short rib...for 40 bucks. It was absurd. We were actually laughing. The waitress was embarrassed and brought me a little salad. The front of the house were lovely and all were trying their best to make up for what was a ridiculously complacent kitchen. Clearly this place is living off its proximity to the theaters, but really, you are much better off walking a few more minutes and going to one of the numerous great restaurants in the area. Don't bother with Villon.
Great atmosphere and delicious food! Service was excellent!
Always an amazing and service that is friendly and fantastic. Pretty pricey, but worth it. Treat yourself!
Everything was great wonderful service interesting and delicious food, lively ambiance in a beautiful restaurant. I don’t give 5 stars often but this place deserves it!
The chopped salad had a lot of bacon and chicken. I needed more lettuce.
The desserts were trying to hard to be fancy (parsnip, stout and yogurt foam).
I would highly recommend Villon, the food, ambiance and sErvice were exceptional. Truly a memorable evening.
Went there for lunch prior to attending a matinee at the Orpheum. Will return.
Food is delicious. The ambiance is lovely. I had a reservation for 5:00pm. I checked in with the hostess informing them our party is here. We were a bit early and she suggested we wait in the living room until the dining room opened. I gave her my name. It would be an elevated experience in this type of restaurant to have her make note of our whereabouts. We were sitting in the living room not far from the desk. It would have been nice for her to come, welcome us and seat us without prompting. I had to go to the desk when I noticed the dining room opened. I gave her my name. I told her to give me a few seconds to go and get my guests sitting in the living room - 12 feet away. Instead of waiting for me to retrieve my guests, she checked in another couple and took them to the table. I said we were here. She asked again what was my name? Literally 30 seconds when I left and returned. Other than that, the server and service was excellent.
Service was great. Great space. However $20 for eggs is a bit on the pricey side
Nice and artsy ambiance but the food is overpriced, small, and not very interesting. Will come and sit in the lobby but will opt out of food next time.
Lovely dining area, great service, nice cocktails. Hawaiian bread, Brussels sprouts, and desserts were excellent. Main courses were bland, not quite properly cooked, and not of the caliber of the rest of the meal. Overall though a good experience.
Love this place. We go every time we are in SF. The service was even better this time - my wife splashed something on her white blouse and the waiter very discreetly brought her club soda and a napkin without us even asking!! Food and drink were also amazing, as always!
Excellent location when attending shows at the Orpheum Theater. Craft cocktails and vibe is trendy and fun. Food was good and city pricy!
So the server had an attitude. I also thought the prices were high for the location and portions relatively small for the price. $25 for a small chopped salad.
A great spot for lunch or dinner, before or after the theater. The food is creative and the service is excellent.
We ate here before a 1pm show of Hamilton and couldn’t have been happier with the service, ambiance and food. Highly recommend for brunch!
We were there for breakfast so it was not very busy and therefore quiet. Interesting though not extensive menu. Food was very good although mine could have been hotter. Staff very attentive. We also had dinner the night before in the lounge as the restaurant was booked. The place is very popular; host said book two weeks ahead. Again, not an extensive menu but the choices were interesting and the food was well prepared. We’d go back.
We we’re celebrating a birthday and the staff was wonderful. The good delicious everything was great!!
If you’re seeing a show at the Orpheum, this place is an ideal location. Atmosphere was hip, but i did find it quite loud. Our server was a little scattered as well. Even the a couple next to us noticed. Perhaps she was new? Who know? Overall, we were pleased with our food and it came out in a timely manner. We mentioned that we had a show to catch so our food did come out on time.
Not good value for money, but good and would go again.
First time to Villon. The food was amazing, staff where welcoming and accommodating. It’s minutes away from the Orpheum Theatre which is a plus. Can’t wait for our next dine in together.
Third time at Villon and has not disappointed. Excellent location for theatergoers, excellent food and service. A little pricey but still a favorite.
Food was eclectic but tasty. Our waiter Damian was very good. Good cocktail. Wine list needs work. It was a great choice for dinner before the play at Golden Gate Theater.
Huge specialty cocktail menu-but nothing seemed very special about what was served- 75% ice, remainder actual cocktail
Nice decor, attentive service, prices higher range with small portions -And VERY unusual food combinations
Chicken with kimchi, a nicely flavored and delicately prepared small piece of cod served with bitter greens which overwhelmied the nice preparation of the fish itself
Great place if you don’t want to have a conversation at dinner-
Because you cannot -It is very noisy- all hard surfaces in the dining room
Really disappointing experience -And I rarely give a negative review
