First of all, let me just say this-- eye candy. This restaurant is gorgeously appointed. Secondly, the staff was friendly, attentive, charming, and lovely. If I were Goldilocks, I'd say, "Just right." And thirdly, the food was delicious. Memorable. Tasty. Zero concerns, zero complaints. I highly recommend this restaurant. If you are on the fence, hop on over to the Villon. Do it.
The afternoon tea was a very fun experience. The tea and desserts were so tasty. We sat in the lobby area which has a fun atmosphere.
I wouldn't recommend this place. The decor is beautiful but the service and the food didn't match the price. The scones were hard and the sandwich options were lacking; the bread was hard and crusty. The tea was good, though.
Love this place, awesome burgers, and great breakfast. The Proper Hotel and Villon are two of my favorite places to eat and stay.
Inside seating area was nice, we sat outside. It was loud but they made it a cute environment. Service was okay, had to wave down and find the waiter multiple times, but they were very accommodating with food allergies. Food was good, menu very limited so look at menu before hand.
We enjoyed Villon. Unfortunately, the area is horrible. Not the fault of Villon. Found it a bit pricey but it is S.F. $21. for a salad is ridiculous.
Delicious food and attentive service. Thoroughly enjoyed lunching here and look forward to the next time.
Very friendly staff and peaceful surroundings
I had a great experience at this place trying their 5-course Valentine's menu.
Came here for Valentine’s Day afternoon tea. The vibe and design of the experience was not quite as advertised. The outdoor area was nice and had individual heaters which was perfect. However, when the server came to our table, even though Afternoon tea was the only thing on the menu, she asked us what we wanted as if we had a emu to choose from. We didn’t order Prosecco, but that was brought to us anyways ($15 extra per person). The food and pastries for tea were brought to our table with no explanation or overview of what we were actually eating. While the food was pretty good, the poor service really affected the whole experience.
Beautiful afternoon tea! The roobis was just perfect and served in a classic silver teapot. I have a dairy allergy, and the chef was able to make accommodations for me. The food was so delicious. The hotel shared great hospitality in helping me get set up with a reservation and communicating my dietary restrictions with the chef. Shout out to Kalai for being so available and detail oriented through this process. Highly recommend!
Good Evening! Thank you so much for your feedback! We are so happy you enjoyed your time! Thank you,
Outside but too cold. The sandwiches were prepared ahead so the bread was a bit stale. It was all very mediocre food wise but some of the pastries were good. Let hungry.
We had the Thanksgiving pre-fix menu and it was fantastic overall with smart wine pairings. We opened up the meal the an espresso martini that set the tone for a rich wintery feast. The chestnut celery soup was spectacular, very elevated, as well as the oysters. The turkey and traditional fixings was just that, could have bit a bit more interesting, but very tasty and comforting. Desert was deconstructed pumpkin cheesecake with a punchy citrus sherbet. Fabulous!
Did Thanksgiving for the 2nd time here. Great food - glad it was almost the same as last year because it's very good.
I loved all of it - delightful -great service and amazing food -
Great ambiance. Super trendy. A must go!
Lunch entrees were very average. The desserts seemed to meet the price point, though. Service seemed pretty slow considering there were only a few parties in the restaurant.
Don’t come here for afternoon tea for sure! The hotel is very chic, but the hostess’ service was really one of the worst we had in SF. Not only that, the food was beyond bad! We didn’t really eat anything from the pastry set!
Wonderful, quiet, lovely place to have lunch or dinner before attending an event. A real hidden gem in San Francisco.
Amazing truffle butter rolls and ribs that just fall right out of the bone with tons of flavor !
We love this restaurants for a number of reasons. Proximity to Golden Gate and Orpheum Theatre, the atmosphere in the restaurant, the incredible array of delicious and beautiful cocktails and of course the food which is delivered with delicate layers of flavor beautiful presentation and unlike anything else. We look forward to returning.
The prices for breakfast were reasonable and the food was excellent
Food was not impressive but expensive. Service was good.
So delicious. Everything was thoughtful and beautiful and so tasty. Service was fabulous!
Lovely space, intimate but not too private. I wish it had a baffled ceiling so we could converse with friends better. The space is perfect for that. Food is delicious.Pricey but good. And I had a really wonderful Mai Tai. Yum.
Service was great! Food was delicious.
I've never felt physically sick from French toast before, or any other food, before now. The feeling lasted the rest of the day. Server forgot my drink. Grabbed our own water from nearby cart. Only bonus was he forgot to charge for our coffee. We didn't correct the mistake.
Coming to this place for the second time reminded us why we enjoy coming. The service that Jim provided was kind and knowledgeable which is something we truly value as it gives you an insight to the experience ahead. We couldn't think of a better meal for the evening and appreciate the thoughtfulness and care the Chef obviously has for what you are to enjoy. This place has a great setting, caring individuals and a Chef that produces wonderful and pleasing food, what more could you ask for.
Thank you as the dinner ended a wonderful night for us!
My 4th time at Villon. New chef in Commonwealth Jordan Fox. Bit of a shake up on the menu with some things dearly missed, salt cod croquettes tiny but great. Crab salad the same. Wagyu beef good but at $54 with fingerling potatoes, not the best. No wines ir alcohol and one chocolate cheesecake and the final bill with tip $300. Great service !!!!!
This is bit of a parody of modernist cooking - the portion sizes are ridiculous at any price and certainly at the price charged here. If you're looking for modernist cuisine, you'd do better for lunch - much much much better - at Mourad. It's no more expensive; it's better (they have a Michelin star) and the portions are doable. This doesn't totally surprise me - I was a fan of the chef when he was at his last restaurant, but the service there was also arrogant and pretentious. Don't get me wrong - it's better than food in a flyover state but it's not sensational enough for the attitude. Over there, we got the tasting menu and a bottle of expensive wine for my birthday and got rushed out because they said someone else had a reservation - they never told us the timer was set when we sat down.
Some details: the crab starter with, among other things, seaweed was o-kay, but about three tablespoons for about $18. The tempeh sandwich was good, but teeny-tiny amount of tempeh and tons of bread. On the upside, all of the service was terrific, and it's beautiful. If you were in another city, or if you are anorexic, this could be the place for you. But at this price, in this city, there are tons of better places.
Food was wonderful. Even concessions to California standards didn't hurt this modern take on classic French cuisine.
This is my fifth time at this restaurant and I keep coming back and bringing friends to share in the fun. Each time I receive exceptional service and have a wonderful dining and taste experience. Thank you to Jens and Antonio for welcoming us and treating us so beautifully!
A friend and I had dinner there before a show - it's conveniently located to a couple of theaters. We really enjoyed our meal. We were short on time, so the waitress made a point of getting the food to us as quickly as possible. Everything was very good, but brussels sprouts were a favorite. Well, those and the Umbrellas drinks. Really glad we made reservations, too, because it's a popular place.
We went for dinner before a show. Our waitress was excellent at explaining the menu and for keeping us on track to be out on time. The restaurant was very busy and quite loud. The truffle rolls with cultured butter are amazing. The Brussel sprouts were very good, but had a puddle of very sweet sauce on the bottom. Other dishes were a bit bland.
Birthday dinner for second year running! Love Villon!!!
Creative and unique new American fare. Good wine list making it perfect for special occasions. Friendly staff that provides excellent service. Large portions at an reasonable price.
Really great food. Great flavors and combinations. Highly recommend
The service was a little scattered but the tea selection was also limited - there were quite a few heavy teas
My husband and I really enjoyed our afternoon tea at Villon. The tea and the scones were the highlights of the service. The rest of the pastries were lovely as well - they're just not my cup of tea. ;) The scones and pastries were delivered in beautiful abundance on a two-tier stand. The opening course of finger sandwiches was nothing to write home about. If we return to Villon for afternoon tea, I might just order the tea and the scones and leave perfectly satisfied. The service was friendly and generous - we were offered complimentary prosecco along with our tea since we were celebrating my birthday! Afternoon tea is served in the lobby area, which is chic and beautifully decorated. Just mind where you're seated if it's a cool day as the wind blows right in off the street as other guests enter and exit.
We had breakfast at Villon, pre-matinee. The dining room is lovely, and the ambiance is great. Service was spotty (the waiter was attentive at first and then disappeared). The food was the real issue. We ordered The California and The Villon breakfasts. Th California was billed as eggs, avocado and farm salad. We ordered a side of toast. The 'salad' was literally two pieces of baby frisee on top of mashed avocado with one roasted tiny new potato. This was served with another half avocado on top of more mashed avocado. I love avocado, but this was just silly --and really wasteful. We had to send the eggs back to the kitchen, as they were undercooked (ordered over-medium), and the toast still arrived 5 minutes after the rest of the breakfast. Definitely won't recommend it.
