   It’s a warm sexy and well decorated intimate space. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, eager to make our dining experience complete within our one hour timeframe. Perfect place to have dinner before a theatre show.

   The staff was amazing. Had the Chef tasting menu. The abalone dish while was very tasty, the amount of abalone was minuscule. It also tasted a bit like the ocean which always means it is old. The wine pairing was good, but not great. Overall, it is a great place. Is a great place to have an early dinner before going to the theater. Thank you Villon.

   My friend and I wanted such before the theatre.. Golden Gate... friend ordered a salad which was very good.. I ordered a medium are burger.. it was well done... and $27 .. it went back and another came when my friend was almost done. The manager came over and apologized . and said it would be comped. When we went to pay the WHOLE lunch and drinks had been comped. This was way over what needed to be done and we said we wanted to pay for salad and drinks but no they gave the whole lunch to us.. this was a very nice gesture and we really appreciated it! We will definitely return! problems happen and Villon staff went over and above to make it up! Sometimes solutions are more meaningful than the problem. we left surprised and happy.

   Hotel, staff, and ambience were awesome. Staff was exceptional from Valet to Omelette maker. Food was tasty; for the price it would have been nice to have seafood or some dessert options. Highly recommend it.

   My first experience here was for lunch, and I thought it was excellent - food, service, ambiance. My most recent experience was for a pre-theater dinner, and I found it difficult to put together a meal. The dinner menu is extremely limited. Given the interesting touches (an amuse bouche to start, a little sweet at the end) I suspect the restaurant /chef want to serve the prix fixe chef's menu in the evening. That's fine, but not what we wanted (or had time for).

   When I made reservations on-line I was quoted $70.00 per person for the Thanksgiving dinner. It turned out that I was charged $135.00 per person, not including drinks, tip, or tax on the meal. I expected a traditional Thanksgiving meal, that is hardly was I got. The meal was horrible. The tables were very cramped and the server had to almost sit on our table to take the order from the people next to us. I was very disappointed and will never go back.

    Went for thanksgiving dinner and loved the appetizer and first course. The pumpkin sformato was amazing. The main turkey dinner was very good as well (better than most) but kinda regretted not getting the fish. I’m only saying that as someone who isn’t a huge turkey fan. The sides were all great though. It was actually a much larger serving than I was expecting. The deserts were also really great. I loved the bread pudding. We also did the wine pairing. The only thing that wasn’t a real hit was the sherry aperitif at the end. Was a little too boozy and harsh. I’m never disappointed with the experience here though. Great service, fun and eclectic atmosphere and even when full, acoustics are pretty good so you can have a conversation without screaming at each other. Neighborhood is pretty sketchy being in the heart of the tenderloin but once inside you kind of forget about that. I’d recommend taking a taxi or Uber or subway. Parking is nonexistent and or expensive. Overall great place, I’ll definitely be back.

    My wife and I went for the Thanksgiving dinner. The food was outstanding but the service was below poor. The couple next to us were on their way out and noticed the bill they were signing was not theirs and nor was their card returned. It took nearly 20 minutes to find the card and that was a huge distraction for our waiter. The reservation clearly said we had 90 minutes for our time. The service was so slow and poor we were there for over three hours. Had we not hunted down different waiters to help we may have been there much longer. It was embarrassing and disappointing. I was looking forward to the experience. I wouldn’t do that again.

    small but mighty restaurant! We really enjoyed breakfast, especially the huevos rancheros and the proper breakfast. They seem to serve traditional food with super yummy twists. For example, instead of sour cream, they served the huevos rancheros with smoked yogurt--delicious! We have to go back soon to try the Shakshuka, that also looked amazing.

    Something was very off the evening my guest and I dined. It was as though we were invisible. Nobody addressed us after we were seated a drink finally made it to the table and the appetizer we ordered when we ordered the drink showed up 45 minutes later?! And it was described as a seafood tower but was delivered as a seafood platter w 6 oysters 6 shrimp and some salmon roulette that had nothing for us to put it on. Finally some toast came out for it after we asked how we were supposed to eat it. We never made it to a main dish only a salad. Incredibly awkward. Not to mention the arrival and departure to this place is too dramatic and only makes one truly understand the third world conditions the USA is experiencing at a high level. I can’t imagine this place will survive another year.

    We will not return. We were looking for a new place for lunch before going to the theatre. (We are longtime Broadway SF season ticket holders.) the location was good and ambiance beautiful. But the price was nearly as much as our theatre tickets. With taxes and tip our meals came to $85 each. I pay nearly half that for Scott’s Sunday buffet, which includes live music and offers 10x more options.

    Really loved the Chef's multi-course meal, especially the duck main course with so many different little flavors on the plate. Also loved the sweet potato dish. Wish the abalone was a solid piece and not little pieces mixed with trumpet mushrooms. Couldn't be sure which pieces were the abalone. Nice experience. Noise level was fine when we arrived at 5:00 but by time got fully occupied, was very noisy. We did enjoy it.

    Love the lamb shoulder for two carved table side and served with an amazing onion gratin, polenta and mixed green salad. Beautifully presented, carved and absolutely delicious.

    We went to see Moulin Rouge and Villon was very convenient. It's a really cute hotel a bit hidden away. The brunch was so-so for $59. The hot dishes weren't refreshed or replenished and the waffles were cold. The people next to us ordered off the menu and said the food was great!

    Quaint, comfortable buffet in boutique hotel. Convenient dining pre-theater. Food was fresh and plentiful. Mini Monte Cristo sandwiches a favorite!

    The staff was outstanding, especially Sumi, the breakfast manager. Each of the breakfast persons were just outstanding. The evening bartender could use some tutoring w/ Anthony (Charmaine).

    The food was very good but the menu is not set up for pre-theater dining, so the chef's specialties couldn't be ordered -- and, unless diners are staying at the hotel, the nearby theater is the main reason people would run the gantlet of drugs and mendicants on nearby streets in order to eat at Villon. The wait staff seemed overwhelmed by the early evening crush and appeared not fully versed on the menu. Prices are out of sight for the overall experience.

    We had difficulty finding the entrance since the address is on Market St, but we needed to enter on McAllister. Lovely hotel and the restaurant had a comfortable atmosphere. We had the tomato salad and chicken entree — both were fixed to perfection, delicious flavors. The best part of our visit was the attentive staff. Quick service, always making sure the water glasses were filled. Our waitress was so helpful, explaining the different items on the menu and making suggestions about the wine selection. I wish I knew her name because I would like to give her the highest praise possible. She was courteous, always there to make sure we had everything we needed without hovering. All in all a pleasant experience.

    Food was overly complicated and too sweet in places. The ahi was oustanding. More subtlety and simpler food mix and less fussiness in the presentation would have raised the food level a notch. Overall quite enjoyable and the ambiance was stellar.

    What a culinary treat. The space is lovely. Our server was such a foodie and just seemed passionate about the food and describing it and pairing it with drinks. Was an excellent choice before seeing moulin rouge at the Orpheus

    Came for lunch during Restaurant Week and it was impeccable. I hadn’t been back here since pre-pandemic and I had forgotten how nice it is. I tend to automatically discount restaurants at hotels as mediocre but the meal and service were great. The swordfish in particular was delicious

    I was really excited to try the brunch buffet at Villon located inside one of my favorite hotels, The Proper. After we sat down, we were guided to the brunch buffet table. The waffles were cold, chicken sage sausages and bacon were lukewarm. They did have nice potatoes and mixed vegetables that that were tasty. The pastries were rock hard, and nothing special. Half the waitstaff didn’t know what they were doing and we kept getting mixed information. At one time , one of the waiters said it was ok to take our used plates and get more food. He also said we could bus our own plates. One of the other waitstaff said he was new when we told him our concern. At $200 for two people , I really expected an experience that would be memorable. I just couldn’t wait to leave and forget about the food and lack of attention. Very dissatisfied. We were there at 11 am on Sunday the 23rd.

    OUTSTANDING meal with exceptional service. The attention to detail was 5 star. I had the fish, delicious. The vegetables are so beautiful you do not want to eat them. GREAT cocktails ( lemon drop) and fun rooftop bar upstairs. GREAT place to eat at before a musical. 5:15 PM dinner was perfect time!

    Anniversary dinner and we elected to do the chefs menu with wine pairing! Wonderful dinner and they were able to accommodate gluten/dairy free needs without compromising any part of the experience. Thanks Villon!

    A nice spot to land if you are going to theater. Their breakfast menu attracted me more than lunch. Unfortunately very short on service but understandable given the labor shortages. Felt safe and clean
