Food was cold dry and awful no carvery serviced Sunday dinner on a chopping board veg was mostly the bad bits with the carrots still having what was pulled out of the ground on them not peeled or chipped in any way it was sent back Sunday dinner I won’t be coming again
There was chips and food in the bench where we were sat disgusting
Only good thing was Melissa our waitress
Went for Sunday Lunch. Changed for the worse in my opinion. Poor choice of starters. No carvery anymore, just a plated Sunday lunch on a wooden board. Muffins for dessert. Very cold and noisy. Poor. Wouldn’t go back.
Staff were not very pro active, we had to ask for our plates clearing to allow us to have our next course on two occasions
Left before getting food. Me I had changed and didn’t know this prior to attending.
The sunday lunch was not as expected, it was always a Sunday carvery with assorted starters and dessert.
Now it has been changed to a meal plated up in the kitchen on wooden boards with two small slices of meat and cold vegetables. The starters were disgusting and mainly fish and the dessert was a muffin.
We were good fans of the Sunday carvery but we will not be visiting again. The wooden chopping boards looked dirty and unhygienic.
Both me and my wife had terrible stomach ache in the evening followed by numerous trips to the bathroom
When we arrived there was no record of our booking. I showed them my booking confirmation and they tried sitting up close to the bar area where it was very noisy and not within the restaurant part. When we requested a somewhere new to sit they said they couldn’t sit us in the restaurant area. I explained because we had booked we should be sat in the restaurant area. We were then moved to the restaurant area and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Half way through the meal we asked for some more drinks and were told we had to go get our own from the bar... after an awkward silence we were then told to get someone who has been serving tables.
Food was lovely and most staff were helpful and accommodating. Would definitely recommend ringing to confirm your booking after doing it online. I did it online as I find it difficult getting hold of them by phone!
Bit pricey for simple food
Great Food and not bad atmosphere.
The only improvement I could suggest is to have the plates heated.
The staff were excellent!
Will not be going back there charged for things we didn’t have poor service waited ages for food had to keep asking for stuff gone downhill just don’t go there again simple as
The main course was lovely . Everything was fresh and tasty. The starters and deserts are served in tiny plastic tubs . We said it was like eating on an aeroplane. The portions are minute and quite tasteless.
Not enough staff to clear the tables but staff were pleasant. When finished we moved to the seating area in reception and it was good until they turned on the TV. Seriously does it need to be that loud? We moved again and sat and had a coffee in Starbucks . Not sure if we would go again - probably not- but we will if they do something about the starters and desserts as they were very disappointing.
Soup was lovely so was starters the chef was ignorant asked turkey was nice roast potatoes was disgusting and soggy sprouts was hard and tasteless gravy was like water and there was 1 person to wait on tables puddings run out I stood 10 mins while the waitress when to put more out will not be returning
Having had Sunday lunch at the hotel on numerous occasions, this was without doubt the worst meal.
The meat was dry and to compound it the so called Gravy was nothing but mildly flavoured water, kitchen couldn’t even be bothered to thicken the flavoured water, truly appalling
Sunday lunch. Meat was good poor choice of vegetables, mash potato resembled and tasted like packet mash. Deserts were on show for customers to help themselves to., These were dry and stale.
Very noisy due to the proximity of the seating area to the bar.
Ice cream for the children was good.
Service from the staff was great.
We arrived and found someone had been put into our pre-booked table. So we had to wait to be seated even though we were among the first to arrive. The food was plentiful and good value but not the best. It was the standard of an average pub meal. Price was good value and staff were helful
Really good value and quality of food.
Lack of information provided by staff upon arrival. We had to ask about gluten free options and were also not aware of the sundae available until after we had finished eating. Some information and explanation upon arrival would have been nice. The desserts were poor. Since the venue has been renovated it seems that a lot of the most appealing options have been removed from the menu. I am unsure if I would choose to eat here again
Lovely food, lovely friendly staff. Would definitely come back 👍
Staff were a bit hit and miss, waited a while at the bar when it was quiet. The food was reasonably priced but the low calorie options, there are only 3, seem a bit expensive at £18 each. I would go again but it is quite expensive if you’re not paying on a company account!
As a member of the gym club my family and I were well looked after.
The service and the choice of food were excellent. We could not fault the place on the day. THANK YOU.
We were on a two course for £12 which is a fantastic dal - food quality was fantastic and good choices. Staff were very attentive. Wouldn't pay full price as quite pricey and environment is too busy and noisy as the dining area is within the bar area so whilst you are dining there are people watching football etc on all 6 screens - not good
The service was slow, the portion sizes where very small for the cost of the meal.
Very good food, good value, nice area, staff welcoming. Could have done with less sky sports
Our first time back since the alterations and I must say the overall experience was greatly improved. The food was lovely, tasty and hot and the staff warm and friendly.
This was our second visit to the new layout of restaurant/pub at Village South. We felt that the menu had improved since our first visit, with more choice and less 'fine' dining. The food was delivered to our table hot and at appropriate intervals. We were left to enjoy our meal and were not rushed into paying the bill. Staff were friendly and non-intrusive, but ready to assist if required.
Although there was a football match on that evening featuring Arsenal, the noise level was not excessive. Being sat in the rear area, we could barely hear the commentary, which emanated from the screen at the front of the pub area. Prior to the match, there was no sound from the televisions at all.
Would definitely recommend for a casual evening meal.
It was very busy and only one waiting staff serving drinks.
Ordered 2 at a time because of service time.
Food nice and good value. Venue great. Waiting staff lovely just very busy.
I was pretty disappointed in all. I did not like that the restaurant had been moved to be in the same area as the bar as it increased the noise level. I was also shocked at the prices, £17 for a chicken Kiev is crazy! I had the sweet potato curry and I found it very bland and it felt like general pub food, definitely will not be returning in a hurry. Such a shame as it used to be one of my favourite places to eat and drink.
Service is always agonisingly slow and disorganised. Food avarage, ambiance is good
We used to come all the time for food and even Xmas dinner .. since changed the bar around it is way too noises .. food options not enough now having to ask for soup , and Seaver’s was three
Options and started were skimmed down on choice the dinner the Yorkshire puddings where not cooked well .... meat dry and just generally all three of us said we would not go bk which is a shame as we used to love it the service how ever is fantastic every time can’t fault it .
Nice place, quiet. Took my mum for mother’s day. Whilst my food was fine her Chicken was over cooked - given it was mother’s day this spoilt things a little
Sad that the large screen was showing sport in the dining area at Sunday lunch ...Gluten free choice poor and sadly although I checked what I choose to eat was ok I was poorly for a day, not sure if owing to cross contamination !!! I am a coeliac... I ate the week before from the gluten free menu in the bar area and was also poorly for a full day after that 😣
good choice of three course - buffet style starters and deserts, and carvery lunch. They were quiet short on staff to order drinks, clear tables etc. the food was of good quality, and the price was very reasonable. It was kids eat free during our visit which was great.
Had a nice meal but when I went to pay had a problem with the cashier because she would not accept a BOGOF voucher that was valid. Spoilt the meal.
I was glad I had a two for one as it wouldn’t have been great value. As it was quiet the food had been stood for a while. The gravy was cold.
Very noisy and open restaurant / lounge area, wee bit bizarre. We were sat in the walk way as had a 60th party and very busy. Plus next to a table of 10 men.. very noisy.
Food was good as was the service, don’t like the new layout it’s off putting with it all been so open and too much noise, was a lot more enjoyable before the refurbishment. Not sure if I’d return:(
The Sunday carvery is very good value comprising of a selection of starters, choice of 3 meats and veg plus stuffing balls and pigs in blankets, plus a desert selection. We had to ask staff to go get the meat carver as we were waiting a good 5 mins at the food counter. Apart from that it was very good and the bar staff were friendly and attentive. Especially a woman called Mel. She was very friendly and attentive.
Not keen on the new open layout as it's quite noisy with the bar being so close to the dining area. Also disappointed that the old sports bar area has been seconded for for business users only, reducing the social & dining areas making the social areas cramped. Thumbs down for the renovation from me.
Soup was cold. Had to wait ages for carver for main course, looked for a member of staff to help but the waitress was having an arm wrestle at the bar with her colleague
Had to ask for hot pudding was not offered had to wait ages for this. If we were not aware there is a hot pudding option would not have been offered
Service getting worse
The new layout doesn’t seem to work. We went for Sunday lunch but it was so very noisy with the new layout. We couldn’t hear ourselves speak due to open plan layout. The multiple tv screens showing football made it feel like a sports bar rather than a place to go for Sunday lunch. We used to go a lot but unfortunately we probably won’t go again! The food was good as always but the staff didn’t seem to know which tables they were serving. Such a shame!
Really enjoyed our experience this time around after previously being disappointed. Good to see very helpful staff and great service aswell as quality food..which was served hot and fresh. Well done for making big improvements!
