I have visited pub and grill bar in other village hotels but this was my 1st visit to this one. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I booked well in advance for table. When I arrived no table was booked even though one of the staff brought my reservation up on his tablet and I had previously confirmed my reservation. I was told to find a table and sit there. As you would appreciate it was very busy due to football and rugby. After waiting for table to become available we settled ourselves down. After waiting for someone to come to us (which they didnt) I went up to bar and explained we had our meal included in our stay and what menu could we use. I was told the one they always used and a stand was pointed out to me. We choose our food and waited patiently at bar for 15 minutes only to be told we had the wrong menu it was a set menu we had to choose from. I went back to my party of 6 and asked them to choose again. Back to the bar for another 15 minute wait and ordered our food. After a 35 minute wait our starters came out. After waiting a further 5 minutes for my starter which was Humous we ate. . Our main meal started to arrive minus the cheese on our burgers which we paid extra for. my daughter was still waiting for hers 10 minutes after we received ours. When asking where her meal was we were told sorry we forgot to bring out. When she did receive her steak they had forgotten the pepper corn sauce. !! After finishing our main course 2 of my party had paid for dessert it was apparent after a further 20 minute wait it was not going to appear. By now it was 10.45. We had our table booked for 8pm.! When I approached a member of staff no apology or explanation was offered over the series of mishaps. We had booked a night away to meet up with family. To celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday. This turned out to be a shambles. I am sure you can understand why my party of 6 were so disappointed.

We have visited this venue several times both as a large group and as smaller parties in the past. No longer. We were refused table service despite the bar being unaccessable. 3 of the 4 sides were blocked with bar chairs, and the only free side was reserved for glass collection and staff refused to serve anyone stood there. It took nearly 25 mins to order a round of drinks then nearly 35 to order food. When the food came, the burgers were dripping grease and the chicken wasnt as hot as it should have been. The bar staff were rude, in particular the young asian memeber of staff. When a member of our party complained they had been waiting 25 mins to order their food, he said its busy, what can i do, ill promise you're next. He then went on to serve 3 other people before coming back to us. We asked both the waiter and the hotel reception to speak to the manager, they didnt come, but sent their deputy who could only proclaim it's really busy and didnt apologise for the greasy food. We have eaten here several times and visited for drinks serval times also, but this was the worst service and food we have received. The restaurant was aware this was a special occasion, someones birthday, but if anything less effort than usual was put in by the staff. It was clear that people they knew by name, sat blocking access to the bar were served before others. We werent the only visitors annoyed with the service and we witnessed several people walk out. I had to apologise to our other guests at my choice of venue, it was embarrassing. I appreciate it was a busy evening, with both rugby and football being on at the same time. However i do not appreciate the rudeness and lack of service your establishment provided.

We had a voucher but the one waiter had no idea what we could choose from...he had to fiddle with the till to work it out. The food was fine but the restaurant nearly empty and I had to go looking for a waiter to order food and later coffee. There was an advertising thing on the table..we couldn't understand it and the waiter had no idea what '3- Teirs Monday was, nor any of the others..' sip sip hurrah Saturdays'? Tacos £1 on Tuesdays..how tiny are they? The disabled toilet appeared to be locked...or in use. A guide on the door would be useful..my disabled companion didn't know whether or not to queue or ask me to help her into the ladies. There was no manager available in the restaurant or foyer to speak to.... Wonder what would have happened if there had been an incident needing swift action/decision-making? Altogether, nice young men serving without adequate training, no supervision/manager/weird and unhelpfipul advertising. .

It’s a pub and that’s all which is great if you want to go and watch sports on all the huge TVs in there and have drinks with friends. I’ve been using the village as a place to stay for many years now, about 15 years. I’ve seen it change many times and this is the worst change. When I come to stay I want to go somewhere that’s relaxing and a nice atmosphere to eat in with good restaurant quality food. You used to have a restaurant and a pub so you could choose what type of food and atmosphere you wanted. Now there’s no choice. I had a set menu and it was very boring and just pub grub. There wasn’t even a wine menu. I was dining alone and had to order my food at the bar. When I came back my reserved table had been taken by a couple. I had to complain and the couple were moved to a different table, so embarrassing on both parts. This eatery really brings down the village hotel in a big way. So disappointing.

It's been a while since I've eaten at the Village North and was very pleasantly surprised at the refurbishment to the restaurant. The new open plan is lovely, menu is great and so were the staff. Booking is easy, prices are very reasonable and we loved it. A special thank you for surprising my grandson by lightning up his desert with a big sparkler!! He loved it.
