Village People Hawker Foodhall
Our savvy bar staff have put together a tantalising list of cocktails inspired by South-East Asian and Japanese ingredients. We also offer a huge variety of Japanese and local tap and bottled beers alongside extensive spirit and wine lists to satisfy any palate. If you’re feeling peckish, sumptuous South East Asian treats can be ordered from Village People Hawker Foodhall, all to be soaked up in the ambience of the main bar or on the delightful outdoor terrace area with city glimpses.
The value for money is not strong. Tiny food portions
Team was very accommodating as we moved tables twice. Food was mostly pleasant but not that impressive, ie. Sticky rice was cold and dry.. told the staff but no reply/ follow up. Kingfish was great but overpriced. For hawker food i think menu selection could be more creative & better value.
Our second visit to VPFH whilst visiting Melbourne from America. Brilliant food. Fantastic menu and great service. We would definitely return. Village People is one of our fav restaurants in the world. The flavors linger....brilliant
Fantastic meals here at Hawker. There’s a great selection to choose from and a large selection of cocktails and other drinks. The staff were very accommodating as we were allowed to stay well beyond our booking time, even though the restaurant was very busy.
the staff at this venue were lovely and very accommodating of us changing our table a few times. The food was good but very small portions for the price charged. Don't charge for a bit of extra sauce to put on plain rice.
Place & atmosphere was awesome. Food was absolutely amazing but a bit pricey.
Very enjoyable. Food quality was fresh with fantastic flavours. Will come back again.
We had a lovely meal here - I came because I did a vegan cooking class with (one of) the chef(s) here and the food was so good. We are vegan so it's great to have some delicious creative vegan fine dining in a lovely ambiance. Mocktails were a hit for me, as was the green curry.
I was surprised that the wait staff didn't try offer us the menu again for dessert so it felt like we were given a hurry up a little bit, and considering there was a lot of room in the restaurant, being directly next to another big table sitting, was a little bit intrusive. But otherwise an excellent experience.
We went in for a late dinner, they were busy but there were empty tables next to us, we were seated just after 8pm, and at 8.50 we still didn't have table water let alone our order taken. We kept making eye contact with waitresses. One cleaned a table next to us but ignored me - we ended up walking out and no one notices. So if you want to pay well over $55 for bottles of wine, and $40 - $60 on dishes while sitting in a dark loud room that looks like a cheap tiki bar - then go here.
We visited here on Valentine’s Day.
We booked here but our table was in front of entrance.(many people walked through during we were eating)
But we enjoyed entree. It was so delicious!
And nice atmosphere.
After entree we had to wait for one hour because they forgot about us.
One hour later they served main food, but it was super difficult to eat, because the table was uneven!
When we cut a big pork(with bone),the table wobbled a lot.I had to hold water and beer when my bf cut pork.
Finally, when we paid, they charged extra $14.
We didn’t recognize it,because the cashier didn’t explain. After paid,I saw a reciept and recognized we paid $14 more.It was ok because they gave it back to us, but we had to wait because it was busy.
The food was delicious, but we won’t come back again...:(
While the food is lovely and service was great, it’s quite expensive for what it is- no vegetables come with the mains or rice and you have to order everything. Not even the $9 roti comes with any sauce, they charged $5 for that when we asked!
It is a really cool set up and food is great but not great value for money.
Excellent food, great vibe and lovely setting, would definitely recommend and we intend to visit again
Creepy security guys at the restaurant entrance; small serving portions
Authentic with a great vibe, friendly staff, fresh food & reasonably priced.
Village people used to be one of our favourites. Unfortunately this experience has made me reconsider. Whilst the food was good, it feels that the serving sizes have reduced from a year ago. The service has lost a bit of its pace - we were brought the wrong dishes 3 times (meant for the table next to us) in our hour there. It didn't feel like value for money which is a shame considering how much we were looking forward to the dinner.
The pork hock is sensational and great value for money
Service poor. Cocktail and entree was forgotten to be served by waitress. I had to remind them of the order.
Main meal choice not available. Substitute main was watered down curry lacking seasoning.
Noise level so high. I couldn't hear my partner across the table
Amazing food with a brilliant chef who is more than happy to make minor changes to the menu for those with intolerances. We were sad to hear it was the last day for our waiter as he is amazing and they will be large shoes to fill! Thanks for having us (again, and again, and again).
Excellent food and ambience. Service could be friendlier and more personable.
We sent 2018 off in style with a lavish dinner. My folks who drove 3 hours to have dinner with us have been raving to all their friends about it and I totally agree!
Great place, yummy food! The menu is designed to be shared and we found the share plates were on the smaller side especially because we had vegetarians/meat eaters to consider.
Never dissapoints. Sensational food and fun vibe !
Very good. Great service, lovely food. Only knock is it's fat too noisy, can hardly hold a conversation.
Great vegan options, cool vibe and delicious cocktails.
Nice banquet. Lots of food. Delicious. Worth it. Pandan cocktail delicious
The food & drinks were amazing - shame about the service. Staff were huddled talking to each other, texting on phones & watches. We had to call out to staff multiple times to get their attention.
Such a good time. The table hosts made our night! Would go back again
Amazing atmosphere and food as always. Service from Irene was fantastic. She paid attention to detail and satisfied our craving for our asian fusion night. Some of the best service I’ve had in a long time. We’ll be back for more very soon.
Enjoyed our meal and service was fine but not fantastic. The BIGGEST problem was the music was way to LOUD have been to village poeple on another occasion and the music way to LOUD but thought we give it another go as we had friends that were wanting to go but told them about the music being to LOUD and they agree so we decided to go else for some drinks as fitzroy has so much to offer will not be back which is bummer as the food was good.
Wonderful experience, food was great, drinks amazing, service great! Great vibe! Had a great evening will definitely be back.
Great atmosphere, good service, food all had excellent flavor. Pricing felt on the high side.
Overall, this place is just OK. The decor and ambience is fun. The service iss fairly good with friendly staff, however we were halfway through our food before our first drink arrived (about 20 minutes after our order was placed). The food is hit-and-miss with a kind of Thai/Vietnamese fusion thing going on. The kingfish sashimi is great, as is the red curry parfait, but the curry puffs, fried chicken and eggplant grill are dry and all lacked sauce. If the food alone hadn't come to $140 we could probably give it a pass but I'm sad to say we left hungry (and poorer, including drinks our bill came to $250) after an hour and a half and headed to the nearest pub for a bowl of chips.
We were left sat at our table for over half an hour before anyone even came over to take our drink orders. it was clear to see that as we were a couple the groups of people took priority with a number of staff members walking straight past us when we were there waiting with our menus closed. I wouldn't be back, nor would I recommend anyone go there.
Great atmosphere and great food. Highly recommended
The food was great, there we're 10 of us and everyone was very happy with their meals. The staff were very friendly and happy to accommodate any needs
I have dined at Hawker Hall many times however this time the food quality was not as good as previous visits. Also very quiet mid-week.
Great venue and great atmosphere. Food was good but not worth the premium price tag. Slightly off the leading pack when comparing with the Asian fusion restaurants of Melbourne. None the less a great venue for date night.
The food is exceptional, the noise is a nightmare. The music is too loud so people have to talk over it. Young crowds who don't have a volume button or more to the point don't actually give a damn if they are screaming at each other. I will probably come back again and again for the pork hock and wonder if anybody is embarrassed by their behaviour. Lucky for me I like to people watch!!!!!!
I understand that all guests must adhere to a 2 hour sitting, however staff should not make guests feel that they are being rushed through. Our waiter rushed us through ordering and continually reminded us throughout the night that we had to vacate the table at 8pm. Furthermore at 7.45pm she rudely came over and put the bill on our table. Yes okay, we get the hint, we're leaving! The restaurant needs to train staff to better manage bookings and customer expectations as they are still, at the end of the day, a paying customer- and you pay quite generously for the food and service might I add. The food was fine, not amazing, just fine.. however it definitely did not make up for the service or the way we were made to feel.
Great food, service and atmosphere. A little on the expensive side but definitely worth the money. Good value. Music might be slightly loud for some. Would recommend without doubt.
