About Vieux-Port Steakhouse
Old stone walls, wood floors, large picture windows, cozy fireplaces; these are just some of the words that describe and evoke the warm and inviting atmosphere of our dining rooms. On three floors, they are as perfect for candlelight dinners as they are for family and private events.

Vieux-Port Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
We went there for my close friend's birthday and I had written to the restaurant asking if they had a selection of cake. I never got a reply. Our waiter did not seem like he was in a mood to serve us. Overall very hasty at taking orders. Our group decided to take the Table d'Hote which came with dessert. We had ordered the pear cake and since they had none left, he assumed we would all take the chocolate mousse instead. He did not bother to ask us if we wanted another alternative, and assumed we wouldn't want to pay extra for something else. Overall a bad experience - for the price, there's other alternatives. My friend was not even done eating her meal and he already asked about dessert. My guests lobster bisque, steak and vegetables were very salty. The jarret de porc was like rubber. When came time to pay our waiter pre-programmed the tips on the machine to go directly to % instead of letting me choose $. We didn't want to make a fuss, but really, for a high end steak house I would have expected much better. None of us would ever go back.
The flat iron steak, though I ordered medium well, is still tender and juicy, very good, as well as the spicy salmon tartare I love the most. But the grilled maple lacquered salmon is too dry, and seemed to be over cooked, just like I ate a canned salmon. Probably it is our fault to order something other than steaks in a steakhouse. We would get the answers next time to try the pork shank and other items.
We chose this restaurant last year for the Mtl a Table event and decided to return again because we enjoyed it so much. We were not disappointed. The food is expertly cooked and presented, the service is warm and attentive and you can't beat the neighborhood and ambiance. We'll be returning.
The service was excellent. The building is beautiful and a great representation of old Montreal architecture. The sreaks were delicious and grilled to perfection. The two appetizers could be improved. The crab cake was $11 and extremely small and dry. It was also lukewarm. My escargots au gratin and garlic tasted great but it was also lukewarm. I irdered a bloody Caesar with no celery and 2 olives. It came not only with celery but it was so loaded with Tabasco I couldn't drink it. Our waiter was kind enough to take it away and divide it into 2 glasses and add more clamato juice. That was appreciated and we were only charged for one drink. The olives were stuffed with large almonds (which I'm allergic to) thinking they were garlic cloves. That could have been a problem. My husband has 2 glasses of wine. The first glass was not filled very much but he second was fine. The mashed potatoes were great and the vegetables crunchy and very good. So you see.... it's difficult to rate our experience. Would we go back? Even though I give it a 4? Only if we were invited. We would not on our own. I did enjoy my flat iron steak and couldn't finish it but did get a doggie bag.
Overall it was a great experience. We got nice seats near the window and the noise level was nice.
We were made very comfortable and our waiter was super polite and attentive.
The food was delicious, from the entrées to the desert. Both me and my wife were very pleased with the experience and we plan to come back soon.
Our waiter was really great (the guy from Bulgaria) so we wanted to like this restaurant, but unfortunately the food just isn't very good. We ordered the NY steak and a bison steak. Both were cut rather thin (half the size of a normal steak) and both were overcooked. The sommelier was very nice too, and apologized that they didn't actually have the bottle on the list that we'd ordered. Sadly the good service cannot make up for subpar (especially considering the price) food.
We started by walking around old Montreal looking for a nice place to have dinner for a special occasion. We decided on Vieux-Port Steakhouse and made an online reservation specifying that we were celebrating our 30th anniversary and requested a nice table in a quiet area. We arrived 5 minutes early and were seated in a nice area but in the middle of the floor. Other guests arrived right after us and were shown to window seats in the same area. (maybe they were regulars?) Our waiter brought us a wine list and said he would be back. He came back about 5 minutes later and we ordered a bottle of wine. He asked if we were ready to order dinner and we felt rushed but ordered any way. My wife ordered the filet mignon medium with giant shrimp and I ordered the New York strip medium. When our meals came it was apparent that the filet mignon was a lot closer to rare than medium. Our waiter noticed and asked if it was okay. He suggested it be put back on the grill and took her plate away. When it was brought he hastily put it back on the table, and the giant shrimp were no longer on the plate. As he was walking away my wife asked where the shrimp were? He hadn't noticed they weren't there and asked if we were sure they were on the plate when he took it away. We were sure, so he went back to the kitchen and a few minutes later he brought her two more shrimp. The only problem was that they were almost raw. When he checked on us again, I told him about the shrimp and he took them back to the kitchen. The owner or manager that came over and apologized for the mix ups and said we would be offered desserts no charge. (very nice)
When the shrimps were brought out again the were delicious, as were the steaks.
When we had finished, we said we didn't need desert as we had enough to eat. They didn't charge us for the shrimp which we thought was fair. Next time, we'll probably try the Keg next door.
An excellent meal in a pleasant space. Top quality food - fish and steak for us. Pricing matched that high quality food. Crowded on this Friday evening. Loud. Actually had the very accommodating staff move us away from a loud, boisterous group. Service above average but staff hard pressed to keep up with the “full house”- some waiting for attention but no more than a minor negative. My pet peeve- no unsweetened iced tea! Wine, water but no tea for me.
The hostess was very nice and friendly. The waiter was very attentive and patient when asked various questions. The service was quick and the steaks we ordered were prepared exactly to our liking. The food was excellent and we had a great table with a view of the Old Montreal street. Highly recommend this place and would definitely come again.
We were on vacation and took a chance at this restaurant. We had a great waiter (I wiah I could remember his name but he was tall with thinning hair). My husbnd and I each had a delicious steak with sides and I loved the atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
