About Vieux-Port Steakhouse
Old stone walls, wood floors, large picture windows, cozy fireplaces; these are just some of the words that describe and evoke the warm and inviting atmosphere of our dining rooms. On three floors, they are as perfect for candlelight dinners as they are for family and private events.

Vieux-Port Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Had a good meal here the other night. We had the baseball sirloin steak and the grilled salmon. The steak was cooked to the correct temperature and the mashed potatoes were very good. The salmon was also cooked well. The meals came with bread which was hot and fresh.
However, the calamari was gross. It was VERY rubbery and had a very strong fish smell. We could only eat one piece each before we had to send it back. After telling our server that he would inform the kitchen we saw that they sent calamari to another table behind us. I was curious if they would eat it and they seemed to only pick at it like we had.
The service here was a little below average, our waiter did not frequent our table enough and my wife's drink was never refilled once the entire meal.
The prices were reasonable here for the size of portions that we were given. I would return here but I liked Gibbys much better.
Wonderful food, regular service, but terrible management. I had a reservation for new year's eve, but the experience there was not good. At the time of my reservation i had arrived with my family, and had to wait outside (-25 Celsius) because the place was oversold. After freezing for 40 minutes we could enter in a small corridor where the manager was treating everyone very rudely, shouting all the time, ordering the customers to close the door. If you are a friend of anyone in the restaurant, you simply skip the line and the cold and they receive you with a "red carpet". I saw it happening twice while i was at the waiting line (again, with a reservation and waiting for 40 minutes). All the "normal" customers were treated rudely. After we finally could get a table (terrible spot, almost in the exit corridor) we could enjoy their famous steaks. Wonderful food and wine, and average table service. Probably during regular business hours they treat better the customer when they arrive, but according to my experience i cannot recommend it for a family celebration during a holiday.
The food was ok the service was very slow and food took sometime being delivered to the table. A friend and I both ordered steaks I ordered the bison which was good although the meat was alittle tough my friend ordered the ribeye not on the bone after a rather odd and forceful recommendation from the server who was trying to get him to order on the bone! When the steak did arrive it looked like it had been on the bone till right before it was plated my friend even found a piece of bone on the steak. We were overall not very happy with the sluggish and kinda non pleasant service we were given the server was overwhelmed with the amount of table he had. I ordered drinks in the beginning and as he passed I went to order appetizers and was cut off and told to wait he would be back how rude . We will not be recommending this to friends and or family and will never be returning
I am a visitor from Australia and booked Christmas dinner hoping for the best. Our party were the ones getting a Christmas present with a simply outstanding experience in terms of food service and value. Thank you Vieux-Porte for making our Christmas Day so special.
This place was jammed packed on Christmas Eve. The hostess seemed a little overwhelmed but the manager quickly stepped in to get everyone seated quickly. It’s a three level restaurant, with lots of space and tables, great for family gatherings or large parties. Although big, it had a great ambience, cozy and homey. We ordered their Christmas fixed price menu for $52 (Escargot/ Lobster linguine / creme brûlée) as well as top sirloin steak. Everything tasted great, but what stood out was our servers exceptional service. Anytime any of our food was delayed he would offer us complimentary wine or drinks. Overall great spot.
Although reservations were made for 9, table had been set for 8 which wasn’t a problem as 2 were unable to attend due to emergency surgery. Also our waiter didn’t clear the table as quickly as usual and we had to wait for coffee. The food was delicious and will definitely go again.
As part of a birthday weekend away, we treated our son and ourselves to the Vieux Port Steakhouse. I don't eat steak, but by the accounts of the other two it was the best steak ever consumed. Cooked to perfection. The Grand Marnier flambe creme broulee was the perfect birthday treat. And a fabulous wine paired well with both the chicken Caesar as well as the steak. Tip and tax included it was $80 per person. Pretty good value for a memorable meal in old Montreal.
Steak was good as well desserts, only positive comments for that! The service was good likewise.
However, the potato purée and vegetables on the side, for the overrated price paid, were...disappointing. I can accept smashes potato purée, but the vegetables were a shame. No flavor, no colors, like frozen adds warmed up at the end. And, it is the first time that in a restaurant I have to pay 3 dollars for the pepper sauce that normally comes with the steak!...another pathetic shame.
