Viceroy British Pub

Viceroy is a great place to take a business associate, a friend, a date, or family. It is some of the best indian food in the area. The only complaint I have is that I ordered a glass of wine and the glass was half full. The person next to me ordered a glass and their waiter gave them a glass about 2/3 full. I am not sure what the serving is supposed to be, but the difference was enough for me to wonder.
Small issue but I felt cheated a bit.
Been here several times before, never let down. Always great food and great service.
We have eaten at Viceroy several times.
It has always been very good.
Fabulous service from Lauren, and delicious dishes at a great price! Perfect for a pre theatre meal at DPAC.
Wonderful as usual. Shepherd's Pie, garlic naan, all delicious.
We made a reservation, were seated right ways. The staff was great and the food well is one of our favorites. Fantastic yellow curry.
I went with my husband and another couple. I had duck in a creamy Indian cashew sauce. It was divine! We also ordered some appetizers, a broccoli chaat and goat samosa, which were good. Mixed grill, lamb ragan josh and yellow curry were ordered by others. All of us enjoyed our food. It came out quickly and portions were good for price. They can adjust spice level 1 to 6 for almost everything. Our waitress was attentive and super nice. As this was a new place, my expectations were low especially as it is a fusion restaurant but it was great! We will definitely come back again.
Great spot for nice Indian fusion. Doug is awesome!
Went to celebrate my son's birthday. As the first time, the service and the food was inpeccable. A very great time!
Service was delightful as was the food and atmosphere!
Excellent ambiance and good return for your money spent. Had a great time. Good choice of food and drinks. Extremely polite servers. Lot of positive energy within the restaurant
The food is EXCELLENT. We got the goat samosas, the meat sampler, shepherds pie, cauliflower, naan and chaat. If I was only rating based on food, it would be a solid 5.
Once we got settled, we ordered drinks. I asked if I could get their spicy tequila drink but just a little less spicy. I was told no because it is premixed. I mean, they have a bartender so I’m not sure why they couldn’t make a custom drink. What if I wanted a cocktail that wasn’t on the list? Do they just tell you no if you want an extra dry gin martini? So that was strange.
While we were finishing up our main dishes, the waitress came over to notify us that is was 8:45 and there was a reservation coming in at 9, so we had to leave. It was very strange. She didn’t offer us dessert to move the meal along or ask us if we needed anything else before she brought the check, just told us we needed to go. It was made stranger bc as we left, there were several empty tables, empty seats at the bar, and no one waiting at the front of the restaurant. We spent over $200, so it was a weird way to end the evening. It wasn’t like we were taking up a table just to drink ice water.
We really want to like this place bc we live 5 minutes away, but the service was at best strange, and at worst just bad.
Went here for a date night, had been looking for a good Indian restaurant in a Durham, and we have now found one. Will definitely be back.
Loved the food but giving it a 4* because it was served warm instead of hot, service was excellent. Ambience can be enhanced to look a little more British pub style. Will surely go again and definitely refer it to friends.
The food was excellent. Service was good and timely. The noise level was high so conversation was difficult. Other than not having any British beer on tap the night we were there, the beer selection was pretty good.
Delicious Indian food! Cool atmosphere, fancy bar and nice scene for a date night. Also a great option on a Monday night when many other restaurants are closed!
Great atmosphere, delicious Indian food and Indian inspired dishes.
We enjoyed our meal here a lot. It would be great if they had some fish/seafood options.
My wife and our guests were served superb food and we able to have fun conversation while having needs met quickly and without hassle.
Was very fun, and tasty!!
Every time we have friends visit Durham, we take them to Viceroy. It doesn't matter if our friends have tried Indian food, or if they're true foodies, everyone we've taken to Viceroy has loved it. The food is always excellent, the drinks are tasty and the service is outstanding. Viceroy never disappoints!
We always enjoy going to Viceroy...the food is the best and the service is outstanding! The staff always make you feel special when they bring you your dinner.
Tasty Indian fusion fare, in a British manor room environment. Great location on Main St. downtown. The service was attentive and prompt, & you can select your own heat level on your food. I think the menu is a little limited, though portions were good. Props for having Fuller’s London Pride in imperial-pint (20 oz) mug, but gin & tonic selections disappointing for a British-styled restaurant. Overall, recommended.
The food was delicious and the server was really nice, however we were asked to leave at 7:45 pm on. Friday to make room for a party with a reservation, which I thought was strange and extremely rude. (Especially considering I had a reservation.) You don’t ask people to give up their table, period. I will only consider eating at the restaurant again if they change this policy. I might get takeout.
Great fusion indian food!
Friendly staff, excellent service, very pleasant experience
This is an overhyped place that serves mediocre Indian food. There are better options in Durham, Chapel Hill and Morrisville. Stay away if you can. Its expensive for the taste and the dishes are not authentic for that price point.
Looks like all their food contains cilantro which my wife is allergic to. She was promised no cilantro in the Shepherds pie but had a reaction in the mouth similar to reaction from eating cilantro.
Unsatisfactory service. Slow, vacant, unhelpful, reaked of cigarettes.
Wow, what a gem! We went here on a whim looking for good Indian food in Durham, and wow did we find it! We will be back many, many times, including for their extensive cocktail menu. The food was most excellent and the service was friendly and quick.
Awesome food and service! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
First time visit. Definitely will go back. Food and service was wonderful
Viceroy was an amazing night out. The food was amazing (both taste and presentation)! The ambiance was superb. The restaurant is decorated as an English Pub but, it is much more open and well designed than this. The appearance of the bar is extremely appealing. The dark woodwork is framed by white subway tile subway tile and each wall of pictures draws one into making up a story about them. The background music was a combination of popular rock and Bollywood (perfect). It was a Monday night and early so I am not certain how loud it might become, but there was a hint of a subdued subwoofer in the sound system. That said, I return to the food, the food, the food! Our goal is to run the menu. Thanks for having such a great restaurant!
The place was hopping on a Saturday evening! The food was a little heavy for my taste, but had good flavors.
Viceroy is consistently the most delicious and flavorful food!! Drinks are amazing too ❤️
We loved the Viceroy when it opened for it's authentic Indian food and they do still draw many Indians to the restaurant....but the food quality this past week had fallen dramatically. The tandoori platter was so dry and over-cooked, the waiter recommended a dipping sauce, without which it would have been inedible. Service was horrible. The place hums with young hungry customers...the menu perhaps suits them...large plates of crudely presented food, where beer is clearly the priority. I want great Indian food and great beer!
Extremely prompt service. With delicious food. Recommend paneer dish from tandoor
From the atmosphere to the food and service, Viceroy never disappoints. My husband and I frequent here often and are always greeted with a smile and outstanding service. Wait staff is knowledgeable and descriptive as well as fun. Whether you are just going for a cocktail or ordering up dinner, Viceroy won’t steer you wrong.
