The original decor screams Zébulon Perron (Furco, Buvette à Simone, Philemon). He created a comfortable and warm restaurant, kitchen and raw bar. Grinder characterizes itself by vintage and modern elements such as glass and metal.
On the menu, raw & cooked items: tartares, tatakis, ceviches, carpaccios, etc. Also on the menu, steaks and grilled or braised meats, all to be shared. Grinder also offers a variety of fish and seafood, served cooked or raw as well. 100% of their wine list consists of privately imported wines, always changing with the seasons, and of course focusing on wines produced while respecting nature.

The level of service and food is up to bar with the price. Waiters are understaff, had to ask more than 3 times to get some bread, tomahawk steak is one of the worse that we have eaten in Montreal, while the other dry aged steak served taste much better. And the oyster were not very fresh.

Service, food, ambiance is superb. We had an excellent meal. We did a little bit of everything : oysters, tuna. Beef tartare, a steak, and some scallops. ALL delicious. Stephanie was our server- very helpful and helped guide us through the menu.

Recommended by close friends, did not disappoint. We took out of town friends and impressed them with our restaurant choice, even though we only went off of someone else suggestion. Great food and atmosphere.
We had a great time, the food was outstanding. 15oz Rib-eye bone out Medium rare, soooo good. Peter behind the bar was not only extremely knowledgeable on the menu and offered suggestions but was great at striking up a friendship and making us feel at home. We enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and all the people.
We will most certainly be back for another round.
J’ai bien aimer mon expérience en général les entre étais excellente le seul partie qui m’a deplus ses que lorsque j’ai reçu mon contre filet il étais bien préparer à mon goût mais malheureusement il étais tiède et froid j’aurais aimer me le faire servir chaud il faut comprend qu’il en coûte quand même 57$ donc à ce prix là je dois dire que j’ai été déçus comprenez moi bien ses pas le prix du contre filet qui me dérange par contre lorsque je dois débourser une telle somme je m’attent a être satisfait au niveau de la cuisson et la qualité de mon plat. Sinon c’était très agréable beau restaurant belle décoration.

While we loved the wine list, the steak wasn’t well rested and under seasoned and arrived in a pool of blood and the cuisson was closer to rare than mid rare. My partner is celiac and didn’t have any issues, therefor a positive note. However since we came for a steak, we left a little underwhelmed.
Better than Joe Beef, hands down! Hanger steak with scotch butter was cooked to perfection. Salmon tartare was delicious. Pouding chômeur was the best ive had. Highly recommend this place. Great decor too.
Love this restaurant try to go when I visit Montreal ! I had the Rib Eye and my son the NY Strip, both top notch along w/ the side dishes. Service was excellent !
Déception dès mon arrivée, dans mon verre d’eau, j’avais deux fourmis volante dont une s’est retrouvée dans ma bouche avant que je m’en rend compte. La question est de quelle façon c’est arrivée là étant donné qu’on est en février. En plus, j’avertis la serveuse et elle ne fait rien pour rattraper le coup, elle me donne un nouveau verre d’eau ... sinon la nourriture est ok, mais c’est très cher.

Trendy, serving excellent food with on point presentation. Waitstaff is full of recommendations and smiles. Great spot for a business meal, a date, or a group dinner. Valet is very appreciated, given our winters and the lack of available parking in Griffintown. The menu is short and sweet, but delicious. Overall, a great go-to please.
I was rushed to get out of there. Food came way to fast between servings. No time to enjoy. It was a Wednesday evening not even a Friday or Saturday. Waitress asked several times if we were done. Took plates away too fast. Was in an out in a little over an hour.

Great place and ambiance, we went for our 6 year anniversary. The food is very good; we ordered: the burrata to start, the tomahawk steak as a main but an excellent choice for a special occasion night-out splurge!

Went there on a colleague’s recommendation, on 23rd Dec our 40th Wedding Anniversary while we were visiting Montreal for Christmas. Booked in at very short notice.
Excellent experience. A culinary delight - food was awesome. Our waiter Julie knew her stuff - her food and wine advice was impeccable, as was her service with a smile.

Second time at Grinder. Amazing both times. Music's a little loud, but I'm old! Beef short ribs melt in your mouth, and best Old Fashioned I've ever had. SO good.

La soupe à l'oignon est succulente et gouteuse. Le tartare de saumon, traditionnel, est honnête et généreux. La terrasse est en réparation mais vaut le détour. Endroit très chaleureux et service toujours sympathique, même si les lieux peuvent paraitre un peu élitistes.
