Viaggio Restaurant-Highland Park
Viaggio is a very good dinner. Classic mostly red sauce Italian. Sauces are nicely seasoned. The
out door seating is good in season. In colder weather it can get very noisy inside. Portions are
generous both salad and entrees. They have desserts, but we are always too full.
Great food but poor service. The restaurant was very understaffed; we had to ask the staff to place our order, get the check, etc. It’s a shame the service was so poor because the food is excellent (get the pork chop parmesan) I’ll be coming back to give it another try.
Great food and service!
We sat outside which was lovely. All four of us enjoyed our meals a lot. Portions were huge and prices moderate highly recommend this restaurant
We told the server we had concert tickets and getting the check and paying was awful. The food was generally good, but the special salad was smeared with cream and the mushroom ravioli made with goat cheese. The write talked about the types of mushroom.
This is a terrific Ravinia go-to place and FAR better than the places at that venue. And just a hop, skip and a jump away.
Best entree was Nana’s Gravy - penne with fabulous beef, tomato and ricotta cheese sauce. I’d get that again for sure!
Great food and service!
Great food! Good portions. Amazing meatballs. Asked for the cavatelli with vodka sauce which isn’t what it typically comes with. Sensational!
Lousy food. Rude servers. Stay away from this restaurant.
Authentic Italian with several menus options not commonly found. Outdoor seating available as well as two, four and six-top seating inside.
Great food and service
."I love the relaxed feel of this place –eating outside was fantastic. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
Food was fabulous! Loved their sauteed peppers with warm bread! Definitely will go back again soon.
Pleasant Local Restaurant.
We had grilled calamari which was excellent. Orecchiette was very good. My wife had Chicken limone & it was also very good.
Nice place to go before Ravinia too.
Decent entrees. Average appetizers.
Second time there this summer. Sat on the patio both times. Excellent ambiance, attentive service. One minor slip up when they brought the wrong entre to my date, but in less than 5 minutes they found the right one and brought it to the table with apologies from manager/owner and offer of drinks or dessert on the house. Food is excellent, if a bit pricy for chicken and fish.
Food was very good. Wine was good. The tables inside were nicely separated
Nice meal. Friendly service. Close to Ravinia. Overall great experience before heading to concert at Ravinia. Would recommend.
Our dinner was delightful. The entrees were full of flavor and perfect texture. The 8-finger cavatelli was perfect, as was the orecchiette. Have dined here on several occasions. The welcoming atmosphere is a breath of fresh air.
Expensive for no taste food and minimal service. Four diners, four tasteless over cooked meals. Will not go back.
Just a nice date night with my husband. Service was nice, just present enough to check on you, but not overbearing. Great advice on dish selection for my husband and a pleasant surprise of the roasted peppers that come with the bread as a complimentary appetizer. Nice selection of dishes and a few specials to boot. Definitely be back soon.
Food started out good. The fried peppers in olive oil, provide gratis, was tasty as was the bread. The calamari was good (although served with bottled cocktail sauce rather than traditional house Italian red sauce). My eggplant Parmesan was burned before being layered in sauce and cheese to the point the burnt toast flavor dominated. I rarely do so, but had to send the dish back and ordered Lasagna. It was terrible. The meat layers were too thick, lacked texture, dry and tasteless. I didn't send it back but ate only a few bites. I ordered cannoli for desert. The waiter said they made the filling in-house, but purchased the shells. The filling was very good but the shells had a stale packaging taste. I ordered a double espresso and asked that it be served with the cannoli. It arrived cold well after the cannoli. It apparently had been made before the cannoli was served and sat on the bar. Finally, their selection of Scotch was limited to several high-end single malts and one premium blend (No Dewars).
The waiter seemed eager to serve and pleasant, but appeared a bit overwhelmed and puzzled by the questions our party had about the menu.
We were greeted warmly by the hostess; the server was also friendly and welcoming. The food was very good; the veal marsala was very tasty and the veal was cooked perfectly (i.e., not overcooked). Dessert did not disappoint; the salted caramel gelato was awesome!
Met old friends there. Dinner was yummy. Todd the owner is so nice.
We always have a great meal and it remains our “go to” restaurant for excellent Italian food.
Great food and service!
Viaggio is always on point. The people working are super friendly and always very attentive! The food never disappoints. The pastas are always delicious and the meatball salad is to die for!!!! I will keep coming back!
This is a lovely Italian restaurant. The food is very good with the lasagna being outstanding. Their
limone and picata dishes are also very good. I'm sure other things on the menu are good also, but we
are in a bit of a rut although we try to not order the lasagna every time we dine there. It can get noisy in the cooler weather when everyone is inside , but in warmer weather the diners are both in and out and it's quieter. Nice wine list, too.
Excellent food and excellent service. No need to say more.
Love this place service is great !!
Our dinner was exceptional. The meatball salad was the best I’ve ever had at any Italian restaurant in the city and the burbs. Our waitress Julie was very attentive and very personable without being overly present. Todd, The owner was friendly and very concerned that we were happy with our choices. The drinks were generous. We sat outside on the patio and couldn’t Have asked for a more positive eating experience on a summers night, I can’t wait to go back!!
We ate outside. The space needs daily after-hours cleaning and straightening. The restaurant was busy, so discarded trays and used tableware need immediate clearing. Excellent service. Server was friendly, helpful and positive. Bussers were busy...more were needed.
Really liked the flat bread but entrees were just NOT good. Had the chicken parm and chicken was not fresh at all and tasted old and funky. One bite and I was done. My partner had the beet salad with honeyed ricotta. Now how do you F up salad you ask? Well this place certainly did! The plate came like they took arugula that fell on the floor and put it back on the plate. What a mess! The honeyed ricotta looked like regurgitated cottage cheese it was disgusting. Um no we will Not be back thank you very much!
Enjoyed it enough that we are going back this evening with our former high school group who we still see 50 yrs later. See you tonight!
Wonderful host/owners who greeted us. We dined outside that night; comfortable tables, great service and delicious food. We will definitely be back.
My friends and I dined at Viaggio's Highland Park on Saturday before attend a Ravinia show. We dined as soon as the restaurant opened so it was quiet and service was attentive, friendly and, best for us, prompt.
We devoured the warm bread served as we were awaiting our orders. One friend had the veal limone, which she enjoyed, but she had to ask for the cauliflower side that came with the entree. My other friend had Nana's gravy, a pasta dish with a meat sauce. It was OK. I'm a dairy-free pescatarian, but the fish entrees were prepared with butter or served in a cream sauce. I ordered the fried calamari. It was delicious. We shared two orders of cake - coconut yellow cake and chocolate. Devine.
We celebrated a friend’s birthday there. We had a wonderful time! Both the food and service was outstanding!
Want to kick back, relax and dine before going to Ravinia this is the place. Park for free, dine in or out. Fine white linen tablecloths, great service and food. Been stuck in that traffic before so there is nothing more soothing than being 4 blocks away and having a great meal and cocktails.
Gets better all the time. Awesome food and service, scampi are incredible.
We all enjoyed everything we ordered and the service was great! We’ll definitely be back. Delicious!
