VIA VAI - Astoria
The restaurant is rustic cozy and charming, with a slate and marble top bar serving only select Italian wines, and local and imported tap and bottled beer, that pair perfectly with the artisanal food prepared every day on the premises, and the brick oven roman-style (thin crust) pizza cooked in the imported Italian oven.
Chef-owner Antonio Morichini is Roman born and bred. He did his culinary education and training in Italy, working in some of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in Rome. His food is loyal to tradition, but forward looking.

Was good. A little over priced but good.
A perfect little neighborhood date place with great food, attentive service and good ambience.
Excellent food and service. Super cozy interior as well.
Absolutely outstanding meal. The waitress was incredible, the food was to die for. Had the beet & arugula salad, mussels homemade paste special and scallops. Each one better than the next. Tiramisu and gelato and dessert wine also phenomenal. Ambiance is great. Highly recommend!!
Always amazing, never disappoints.
We always have the best time at Via Vai! We booked a table for 8 to bring our close friends to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and everyone loved the food and had a great time. Samantha is fantastic and took great care of us!
Great value for the quality of food and drink. Professional service and lovely ambiance.
Service is the best
Small restaurant with a great chef from Rome. Pastas are first rate!
The food is outstanding, however everything is made fresh to order so plan on being here a while! They do notate this on their menu so I was prepared to be here for two hours with my husband. The homemade pasta is delicious and the gelato….. AMAZING. I definitely suggest making a reservation ahead of time because there’s only about 12-15 tables total in the restaurant. We made a reservation and had no issues.
The food was exceptional. Arguably the best Duck I’ve ever had. Everything was great and would be back again
Amazing food, ambience, and service!! Thank you and we will be regulars when we are in town.
Our favorite spot! Samantha is the best and always takes such great care of us. The food is absolutely amazing.
Excellent food from beginning to end. Highly recommend.
Loved the food!!!!
Best carbonara I’ve ever had!
Nothing but good things to say. I came here cause I was looking for comparable quality to Italy Since we just got back from stuffing our face in southern Italy. Pasta and sauce is real Italian style and homemade (we ordered bucatini - to die for!) We ordered glasses of barbera which was worth it! Samantha, our server, also tied the whole experience together for us and made it whole. Thank you. We’ll be back for sureeeee!
The food is authentic and delicious! What can be better than homemade pastas! Everything from the appetizers to dessert was outstanding. Love this place!
A wonderful neighborhood place with delicious food.
Get the bucatini and tiramisu!!! Very fresh, flavorful and a great value.
Extraordinary quality food. The omnivore again ordered the branzino baked in focaccia, and loved it as much or more than other times. I really enjoyed the cacio e pepe. If I were to request anything different for the future, it would be more options for people who don't eat meat or fish - because we like to go here frequently, and it would be great to have more to try than just cacio e pepe and pizza. Love this place!
We went for Fathers Day. It was lovely sitting outside. The food was delicious and we liked the wine choices.
Love this place and have been coming here since 2016. Will always hold a special place in my heart- it’s where I got engaged💍🎉🥂🍾❣️
Food is delicious. It’s a tad expensive, portions are ok, not big nor teeny-tiny. Only thing that made made bit disappointed was they didn’t read the request. We were celebrating an anniversary but it was never acknowledged until I made a remark about it towards the end of dinner.
But what really bothered me was in that same request I mentioned that we did not want alcohol offered since we do not drink! Host brought over wine lost with menus... so clearly no one took the time to see it
First timer at Via Vai, and first time dining in Astoria. Didn’t know what to expect. We were lucky enough to have an outside covered table on a beautiful night. Even though we were technically seated in the street, the enclosure completely made us forget!
The wait staff was fantastic and the recommendations were excellent. Everything was delicious!
Had an amazing dinner a Via Vai last night !! It was my first fine dinning there and it will certainly not be my last. The decor and ambience was very European and help set the mood. The food was excellent and very much stood up to what the most recent press has been saying about it. I very much enjoyed the mussels, special gnocchi with octopus, and the wonderful pasta with jaw bone meat. The desserts were very good too! Tiramisu and the pistachio ice cream were both memorable dishes as well. Our server Samantha was just terrific !! I couldn’t tell by her accent what part of Italy she was from, but she sure did know all of the ingredients and preparation of the dishes. Not to mention helped guide us through the wine list which every glass we had was just wonderful. Thank you Samantha and Via Vai!
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding.
This is a place to go if you want really good food, a nice size portion. I highly recommend it.
Great food. Nice service. Nice ambience. I’d recommend it.
Excellent food. Felt like being in Rome.
We were excited to visit but our meal was
Food was truly incredible - down to the homemade bread and olive oil. Will definitely be back.
Food was delicious and service was even better. Wine list excellent and ambiance was amazing. Cannot wait to go back. Went with friends who live in the area who had never been and now also cannot wait to go back. Very varied menu items so much more I want to try.
Samantha the waitress was wonderful !
Food was great!
My review was based on sitting outside so that affected the ratings on noise level, service etc.
Love this place. Really transports you back to Italy the passes are beyond on point. The flavors take me right back to living in Italy again
Everything a great meal should be. Amazing food. Amazing service and great conversation.
