They had a limited menu, but the server directed us to excellent choices
We didn't fully realise before we sat down that this is essentially a brightly lit sports bar attached to a Hotel, with a limited menu (Pizzas and starters plus a few deserts). That said, we really enjoyed the excellent food (super Pizza, excellent salad and Burrata and scrumptious cheesecake and Affagato!), super service and great wines. Highly recommend it, but you should know where you are going!
Overall great experience--great food and the patio looked nice. Service was a bit slow/seemed unprepared (couldn't find us an indoor table despite us having a reservation, and server got pulled away to do other tasks fairly often) but I'll give them a pass since it was a holiday and we made the reservation fairly last-minute.
Terrible service. Never got the drinks we ordered. The waitress lost someone's credit card. Most of the staff was looking for the card and completely forgot about us.
One of the BEST dining experiences I have ever had. The food, atmosphere, and staff were all exceptional!
The staff was so polite and attentive. We were a larger party and they made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious!!
Our server jay was so awesome! Without him, I’m not sure the experience would have been the same!
very well lit, not noisy. great for people who get overwhelmed by dark/loud restaurants. food was all great, servers polite and attentive
Thank you for the great review. We hope to see you back soon.
Beautiful ambience and amazing service! I love the simplicity of their select menu which makes decision making easier. The food was reminiscent of Europe. Overall the perfect place for enjoyable, feel-good dining.
Thank you for the review. We are so glad that you had a wonderful time.
So glad we had a reservation — we got the last available indoor table, near the door so we were frequently blasted with cold air. The wait staff was great and brought us a complimentary serving of bruschetta. Dinner was creative and well prepared.
Love Via Sophia! The food is always surprisingly complex and delicious. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. My only complaint is the noise level, whether inside or out. For the last several meals, we have dined on their terrace and, with their location on K St., the noise from the traffic is almost unbearable. There's nothing Via Sophia can do about that, but it sometimes makes for difficulty hearing the conversation. But...with everything else so wonderful, we are more than willing to put up with that. Thank you, Via Sophia for some memorable dining!
Thank you for the great review. We hope to see you back soon.
Great, tasty and very nicely de orated dishes. Waiter was absolutely kind and friendly. We enjoyed our dining experience.
We had a truly spectacular dinner, with great appetizers, wine, and really exceptional service from both our waiter and the sommelier.
Great service and food. Nice location for semi casual vibes.
The food and service were very good. A nice casual dining venue.
Excellent all around. Happy hour lasagna bites and rice balls were outstanding as was the happy hour wine. The tagliatelle bolognes was delicious. Service and staff were professional and friendly. Recommend highly.
Thank you for the great review. We can't wait for you to join us again.
Extremely noisy! Great service!
Great food and great service. We enjoyed the restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was just perfect.
Thank you for the review. We are so pleased that we were able to make your wife's birthday special.
Incredible food! My husband and I can’t stop talking about it. We will definitely be back.
Had a great dinner with my daughter for her 11th birthday. Food was great and awesome atmosphere.
We chose this restaurant because it was highly rated. We got there and it took over 10 minutes for someone to come and greet us. Service was not very good. Had to ask for bread service and even cheese. Waiter was focused on another table that was ordering a lot of drinks. Fresh made pasta was good, other items not so much
Would not choose this restaurant for dinner again in DC
The service was good and my server made me a drink that had been on the menu before that wasn't currently, so that was nice and appreciated. But the food was just not very good. The Panzerotti and Arancini were both incredibly greasy... like dripping with oil. We sat outside which is right on the corner of 14th and K Street. It was a little too much noise and traffic during rush hour, but I bet off hours it's a nice place to sit and have a drink.
Good food not great, good service not great, too loud. Beer list is limited, portions are small for the price, except for the side dishes which were shareable. I had the Chicken Marsala, nor even close to what I expected. Not in my top ten.
Menu was very small for brunch, but the food they did have was good.
We felt rushed to order, our waitress practically forced us to order drinks, appetizers, and our entire meal in one go.
The food was great, and the restaurant lovely.
I would recommend, but I hope you have better service than us.
Very disappointed. only had one bathroom available. To have a long queue in the middle of the restaurant of people waiting to use the restroom does not make for a good experience. Food was good, my server had no personality and he was unfriendly. I will not be going to that restaurant again.
It took us 15 minutes before a server came to say hi or take our drink order. The food was expensive but not well done. The risotto wasn’t even fully cooked. Calamari was horrible.
We went to Le Diplomate after for “second dinner” and that was CHEAPER and SO MUCH better. Go literally anywhere else in DC and you’ll be happier. We will never return.
The harvest salad and burrata were superb. Mmm - roasted carrots and the best beets I’ve had in a long time! The pizzas were okay. Something about the fennel sausage didn’t sit right. We should not have eaten our entire pizzas; each one was way too much for one person.
Great spot for lunch - delicious food and prompt service.
Great service and great food, would definitely come back again.
Delicious food for breakfast but limited options. No kids menu and no a la carte menu.
This was not our first visit to Via Sophia, and I imagine that it won't be our last. The Caponata Bruschetta was savory and delicious, while the Whipped Ricotta Bruschette with figs had the contrast of some sweet and was equally delicious. I had the Bucatini with cheese and pepper, and my husband had the chicken marsala. We both were more than happy with our choices. And to top it off, the waiter made a perfect wine suggestion. If you want a memorable and satisfying meal, Via Sophia will exceed your expectations!
Wrong food came out
Server did not even ask if we wanted the correct food
THE SERVER WAS NOT CLEAN AND IT SEEMED DID NOT WASH HIS HAIR. THERE HAD 4-5 SERVERS OR STAFF. THEY WERE BUSY TALKING THEMSELVES. I WAS ON MY WAY TO GO TO THE BATHROOM AND ONE OF THE STAFF WAS IN FRONT OF ME. SHE OPENED THE DOOR AND GET INTO THE BUILDING AND EVEN SHE SAW ME BUT SHE DIDN'T HOLD THE DOOR. I MEAN IT IS NOT A VERY NECESSARY THING TO DO, BUT I CAN SAY IT WAS NOT TOO NICE. FOOD WAS OK FOR THE PRICE I PAID FOR, BUT THE RESTAURANT NEEDS BETTER SERVICE FOR SURE.
What a lovely setting in a classic and beautiful hotel. I think this restaurant is overlooked and underappreciated. The linguini with white clam sauce was the best I've ever hand - hands down - and I so appreciate wait staff who will recommend the best.
Came here at 5:30 to take advantage of happy hour. Sat outside and waiter gave us dinner menus. When I asked for happy hour menu, he looked at his watch and said let me get those. Came back and said happy hour is only in the bar area. Website said nothing about this, nor the sign on the sidewalk. Also why look at your watch to see if within hours of happy hour. And as an employee why did he not know the rules? I think he was worried about getting g a lower tip.
Fantastic food. Waiter was nice but slow. They are understaffed. But if they fix that would be 5 star!
It has been an awesome experience to dine at Via Sophia - service, food and ambient in the restaurant were really amazing. We sat outside on the patio and had a lovely evening. The waitress were taking great care of us while not being too intrusive. The pizza taste amazing and the drinks were professionally mixed. Even though the patio appears to be located close to the boardwalk the noise level was very low and we enjoyed privacy. We can definitely recommend this spot if you look for an authentic Italian restaurant.
I was there forlunch. The food was outstanding as well as the service. I'll be returnign for additional meals.
Booked a business lunch outside for a party of five that became a party of six. Host was flustered by the addition, but the waiter easily pulled a chair over to the empty spot at the table. Food was good and the pre-fix was a nice option. The restaurant is central in DC and the porch was spacious and mostly shaded, which is why I picked the restaurant. Service was a bit slow, waited 20+ min to order, and they ran out of the gazpacho, which was the only option for the first course of the pre-fix, so one of our diners was out of luck. They were "out" of decaf coffee which seemed strange and then they didn't provide a proper credit card payment receipt other than the one I had to sign for them, which made reimbursement a bit of a pain. I'd probably book again.
