The food is consistently amazing and the service is always excellent.
Mostly very good food. Only exception the charred Calabrese cabbage which was hard and lacked real taste. It was was without taste rather than bad. The daily special which my comoanion ordred was worth the it in terms of quality and mlkney. The aervcie was quite helpful.
Really fabulous food and great lovely staff that was super accomodating
Took our college aged kids for Sunday dinner. Food was delicious. Beautiful plates. We had pizza, eggplant bruschetta, pasta and a salmon dish. Also gelatos for dessert. But service was painfully slow and marred the experience that night.
Feb 28, 2020: We had dinner at Via Sophia. Entrees included turbot & the linguine alle vongole. The food is very good and the service is attentive. Via Sophia will have a good run because the location (14th / K) is very attractive and really convenient. We will return to Via Sophia to try the pizza next time.
My friend and I ordered the prefixed lunch and wasn’t provided our desert he just gave us the check
Great food from Chef Clark, unobtrusive service.
We will be back!
Issac, our waiter, provided
The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The service was excellent. The drinks were very well prepared and the food was delicious. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience as NCAS a great evening with our friends.
Food was amazing!
The menu approximates eating in Northern Italy and the food was tasty. That said, if I had eaten a meal I would have ordered in Italy, I would need a mortgage. Antipasta, 1st plate, 2nd plate without a drink would easily be $75. The cocktail (their version of a Manhattan) was quite good.
Went here for a special occasion. It has good atmosphere. The bar area seemed nice. The food left a little to be desired. Oddly basic menu and the pizza seemed to be made of a wheat dough. Not really a fan.
We had a wonderful experience. Our server Isaac was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about the wines and we loved his recommendations. His recommendations for the appetizers and entrees as well as dessert was right on target. The food was delicious and I loved the linguini and clams. We celebrated my husband's birthday and he absolutely loved the restaurant and experience. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back. All in all it was a great experience. Isaac was fantastic!
Valentine’s Day with my wife was already special. I didn’t completely enjoy the tasting menu because we are both vegetarians and I hope there’s more for all in the future. It’s been a very good place to eat and I will be back I’m sure!
Absolutely delicious food. Costs a pretty penny but it is worth it. Personally, I didn't really like the rap music playing.
I had an amazing time at Via Sophia. The steak tartar was to die for! Made course was the gnocchi and that was the best gnocchi I’ve ever had. Gotta try the bruschetta as well! Overall 10/10!
We went there for a birthday celebration. The staff are awesome, food and dessert was phenomenal. Thank you for making the night special!
Dined at Via Sophia on Saturday night. Reservation for two at 9PM. The restaurant had a lively bar and several tables of diners. Drinks were strong and delivered quickly. We ordered two side salads (not on menu), the roasted brussel sprouts and the Parma Pizza. But before our order was completed we changed our mind to the Cacio e Pepe pasta dish. First - salads were superb and beautiful with tiny edible pansies on tops. The brussel sprouts were the best I have ever had, and I order them a lot. Perfectly seasoned and roasted in a creamy dressing of some kind. The waiter (Enzo) delivered our pizza, but it was then replaced with the pasta dish. He was so sweet and let us try the pizza, just for reference. WOW! Was that pizza ever delicious! The Cacio e Pepe pasta dish was nice, but pretty peppery. We shared the dish and finished it up, but I wish we had stuck with the pizza. Enzo our waiter was attentive, fun and worked with all of our requests. He was great!!! It was a superb dining experience and I will go back again soon....... maybe even tomorrow soon.
For a four star-Hamilton hotel, the restaurant is also 4 stars. Services is the biggest issue I seen there as far as knowledge of the food and interaction experience (expect the host! very nice older gentleman and proper). I been there several times and I will go again. Price of the food is reasonable. I hope it will reach to my 5 star review one day.
Via Sophia was amazing! The service was great - they treated us so well. We felt like the most important table in the restaurant. The duck was fantastic, and they were very accommodating to my dietary restrictions.
We had dinner celebrating our cousin's recent retirement. We are from New York and I found this restaurant on Open Table. The restaurant was close to our hotel and the appetizers and dinners were very good. We had the grilled calamari (which my husband really liked}, I had the Burrata and the red onion marmalade was absolutely delicious and our cousin had the caponata as appetizers. For our dinners we had the gnocchi, the cacio pepe and the chicken matone. Every meal was done very well and quite tasty. For dessert, we had the tiramisu and the affogato. I would go back to this restaurant if we are in DC again. Our waiter was Issac and he was a delight - pleasant and very helpful. A great dining experience!
Delicious clam linguine and very friendly service. I would return here.
Queríamos pizza y nos lo encontramos en e camino...valió la pena! Las entradas muy bien presentadas y deliciosas. El personal con excelente actitud y disposición, la pizza deliciosa. Muy recomendable!
Wonderful experience. Issac was amazing! Great food.
Hilda was fantastic and very accommodating. Food was colorful, flavorful and beautifully presented.
Cool. Good food. Service was meh
Although the restaurant has a full and delicious sounding Italian menu, we were in the mood for something simple - and Via Sophia’s pizza hit the spot perfectly. Both my colleague and I opted for the Macellaio pizza, topped with s variety of charcuterie and buffalo mozzarella. Great crust, thin, crispy and chewy at the same time, plus high quality toppings. The service was friendly and the tables nicely spaced, making private conversation easy (always a plus in DC!). A very pleasant experience in a very convenient location.
The chef seemed to be trying too hard -- the simple pasta dishes were a little too heavily embellished. The already too noisy restaurant was made worse by obnoxious music. The waiter was efficient and the staff welcoming.
Good experience - service was slow but very friendly. Food was delicious. Great cheese board.
Great staff and service. Food is tasty, make sure you get the pasta al dente to prevent overcooking of the pasta, trust me it will come out perfectly. The pizzas are tasty and the soup presentation and taste are great! And, in a hurry, great working lunch place.
The place smelled like heavy cleaner had been used to mop the floors.
Pasta here was horrible. My mom had never had a cacio e pepe and it's a very easy and delicious dish so I suggested she tried it. She took one bite and scrunched up her face. I looked at it and it definitely did not look right. I tasted it and WOW it was terrible. Italian pasta dishes are so simple that you can definitely taste from the first bite whether it is delicious- or whether the chef majorly F'd something up. This dish was so bad. Firstly it had WAY too much pepper. Basically inedible. The entire dish was dark colored from all the pepper- it should be a nice bright yellow. It was also terribly lacking in pecorino cheese. I don't think their chef knows anything about Italian pasta.
Also- they do have gluten free pasta but the servers are not very knowledgeable and had to go ask the chef which sauces he could make with the gluten free pasta. The server actually told me at first that there was NO gluten free pasta I could have, just rice.
Anyways, I had some type of "duck ragu" but it was neither a red sauce nor a white sauce, there was barely any sauce just oil and meat. The whole dish was so very dry and flavorless. For some reason this "sauce" also has pieces of pancetta in it- they tasted well past their prime and I'd probably get sick eating them so I left a pile of gross pancetta at the bottom of the bowl. I lived in Italy for many years and I would never recommend this spot to anyone who loves Italian food. I'm pretty sure even Olive Garden can make better pasta than this place. Maybe their pizza is good(?)
Interesting menu with solid choices if looking for something different
Menu is grey type printed on cream paper. Nearly impossible to read. Waiter barely spoke to us. Not attentive. Branzino excellent.
Amazing fusion of flavors on rustic Italian cuisine!
We were disappointed that we were overcharged for the bottle of wine we had ordered. When we brought it to the waiter’s attention an adjustment was made. But this shouldn’t happen!
The food was excellent, the service attentive, thoughtful and prompt, the Montepulciano was superb.
The experience was definitely fine-dining not a hotel restaurant. A great addition to DC dining.
Perfect place to have Thanksgiving dinner. Wonderful choices and delicious food: everyone could have their favorites. So grateful for special restaurants like this one.
We had the Thanksgiving menu on our first visit to Via Sophia. The food was outstanding, definitely worth every penny. Highly recommend the duck gnocchi which is part of their normal menu. We will definitely be back!
This was my first visit to Via Sophia, and I was quite impressed with the food! Really enjoyed the butternut squash ricotta appetizer, and then the pasta with wild boar ragu! Both were fantastic! Shared the porterhouse for two with my friend. It was cooked perfectly to medium rare, but was nevertheless on the dry side. Overall though, it was a great meal, and the service was excellent also. The only downside is that the space is very noisy. Fortunately, there weren't too many people when we were there, so it was tolerable.
