   It was not a great experience at Via Sophia and I would not recommend it to friends or colleagues. Service was substandard at best, the server didn’t know the difference between California and Italian wines, auctioned each plate at the table and would point to dirty plates for diners to pass him without even asking politely. The added 20% gratuity for the party of 6 was not earned. Food portions were minuscule, plates were Luke warm if warm at all. Lots of room for improvement.

   Service lacked luster, and so was the food. Not a memorable or enjoyable experience- we had to wave down our server and inquire about our food, bread, and refills on our beverages. Meanwhile, multiple tables sat after we did and received their food and were attended to by the same server multiple times.

   Waiter repeatedly slopped water all over the table each time filling glasses. The fish dish I had was served with a couple small potatoes but could have used some greens like spinach. Staff was unfriendly.

    The menu was varied with lots of small and large plate options. The service was timely and attentive. Our drinks before diner were outstanding. Our friend who is an Old Fashion expert said the one he ordered was one of the best he had ever tasted. We enjoyed the Octopus and Calamari as appetizers and all of us were thrilled with our entrees. The restaurant was busy but not too loud. Our overall experience was outstanding!

    This is not just a pizzeria! The duck is excellent and the monk fish livornese is awesome. The real surprise is the fois gras - absolutely spectacular!!

    We were staying at The Hamilton Hotel for just one night & wanted to try Via Sophia based on previous reviews. We chose The Hamilton based on its proximity to the White House as we had a Sat morning tour. It was a one night, 2 day Birthday celebration for my wife. Dinner started with a cocktail for each of us which were creatively presented & very tasty. Seated next to the pizza oven, we were surprised not to see any pizza options on the dinner menu. No worries as our waiter was very accommodating & quickly whisked a pizza menu to our table. We started with a margherita pizza which came out pretty quickly ! My wife ordered the burrata which was served with heirloom beets and a red onion marmalde - it was really good ! I had intended on ordering the octopus, but earlier in the afternoon I had wandered downstairs to check out the restaurant, I ended up having a glass of wine at the bar & got to listen in on the chef describing several dishes to the servers. His enthusiasm in describing the steak tartare convinced me to try- I was NOT disappointed ! Such a great mix of flavors & textures - it was awesome ! We chose linguini with clams and bucatini with gulf shrimp for our meals & the both the homemade pasta & sauces were excellent ! Stuffed, there was no room for dessert, but did enjoy the petit four - a quarter-sized wafer cookie topped with a round of creme brule ice cream our waiter brought us. then a limoncello was the perfect digestive aperitif to finish a great meal. Via Sophia most definitely exceeded our expectations! And - needing an early breakfast before heading to the White House for our tour, we stopped in again for breakfast at 7am. Our server was equally attentive as the dinner service, The Parfait with homemade granola & greek yogurt hit the spot as did my BEC - fluffy eggs with bacon and starcchino on an everything bagel with a huge side of breakfast potatoes got us off to a great start before heading out into the coldest day of the year!

    Great downtown location and great service! We arrived in time for happy before our 6 pm dinner eservations, and enjoyed a glass of wine while we checked out the menu. The fish (cod) was fresh and good, but the duckbreast ragu was outstanding! Our waiter was very attentive and we really enjoyed our dinner at Via Sofia. Our only recommendation woul have been to turn down the music a bit as it was quite loud. Definitely plan to come back to try out some other intersting menu options.

    The food was delicious. We got the fig bruschetta, ricotta ravioli, a pizza, and ricotta donuts. The service was great and a very beautiful restaurant. Perfect for a date night. Only thing I would say if I had to nitpick would be I wish the ravioli and pizza were warmer when it was served but both were still delicious. People were super friendly and sweet.

    The food and customer service were both excellent. The owner came around spoke with us, made us feel at home and made sure to ask each one of us how are meal was. My family and I will definitely be back! The calamari, chicken liver moose, linguine with clams, and bolognese are all excellent choices!!

    Food was average at best. Service was pretty good. Ambiance was not great- instead of being a nice Italian somewhat romantic dinner, it was more like an airport bar. People bumped into our table all night and we found ourselves screaming to hear each other. Might go back for a bar party, wouldn't return for dinner.

    We went on Restaurant Week so I’m going to forgive them that. Tagliatelle was good but nothing to write home about. As was the Tiramisu. It’s a beautiful restaurant until you find out that the 1 restroom stall is behind the wooden wall right in the middle of the restaurant. I hope they got a refund from their architect.

    The food was average for the price - there are much better Italian restaurants in DC. Unfortunately the service was poor, with the staff frequently chatting amongst themselves and paying little attention to the few customers in the restaurant. The staff also appeared to be annoyed to be there which provided for an unpleasant experience.

    There were highs and lows to our meal. We ordered the fig bruschetta to start. It was fairly underwhelming — the bread was pretty soggy but the fig and other toppings were good. It was missing something, as it was fairly sweet and not complex. I was a little bummed there was no pizza on the menu that night — as a vegetarian, it definitely limited my options. I ordered the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe and it was delicious. It was perfectly cooked Al dente with the right amount of pepper and cheese. Another guest ordered the gnocchi and he thought it was also good. Their bread was also great for dipping. The tiramisu was the star of the show, for sure. As far as the wine menu — it is fairly large for by the bottle. By the glass it was just okay. The menu online doesn’t match what is offered at the restaurant. The service was okay. I assume the manager is who checked on our table the most and he was great. Our server only checked on us a few times through the meal. I would loved to order a second glass of wine but he didn’t come around again until dessert.

    More of a casual restaurant. The experience of service is similar as in a regular diner, nothing that sticks out. The food was good and lives up to the value of cost, don’t really expect more for a 3 course dinner for $59. Thank you!

    Really good food. The prosciutto appetizer was fantastic. Never had grilled bread that tasted quite so good. It had a “steak like” flavor from the charcoal. The grilled octopus was nice, the sauce was really good, like balsamic and Worcestershire had a baby. 😉 Red wine roasting was delicious but very rich. My husband’s ravioli was great if you really like fennel as it has a lot of anise flavor. We were early for our reservation and they were nice enough to seat us with no problem.

    We had a very bad experience on Christmas. As customers of the hotel we knew they had tables at 7. The manager sent us away. We booked through open table at 8. Once the booking was done, the manager called us to advise that we needed to show up on time because the kitchen would have closed at 8.15. We went there sooner to make sure we were served. Food was decent but management should probably take some etiquette training.
