Via Lago Trattoria is open during the lunch and dinner hours. Specializing in Italian cuisine, it offers a wide selection of different pasta dishes, from lasagna to ravioli. Its pizzas in both Sicilian and margherita styles make a great snack or late-night meal. Steaks, including prime rib and filet mignon, are also signature dishes at Via Lago Trattoria.
Offering a cocktail are and patio for additional seating, Via Lago Trattoria is a suitable place to gather after work with friends or coworkers. During the week, it hosts a happy hour with special drinks and appetizers. Aside from a selection of Italian wines, several beers and martini cocktails are also included on the menu.
Very disappointing. Service was more like absenteeism. Ignored most of the evening. Would and will never go back. Also interesting, the prices on the menu shown here Open Table are way less than the menu we were handed last night. Overall, just very very disappointing.
There are several problems with this restuarant. First, the menu was not the same as that on their web site. We went there on 13 Feb and were handed a Valentine's menu with prices that were ~50% higher than on the web site. Second, the waiter made a mistake with the order and did not bring the food we ordered. Third, the tuna dish that I ordered was cool/cold. Apparently, it sat around for a while after it was cooked. Additionally, service was slow. When a restuarant charges premium prices, it should deliver premium food and service. Not so at Via Lago!
Exceptional service and food quality! Consistently good!
We love coming to this restaurant! Always friendly staff, delicious food and beautiful live music keep us coming back.
The menu list had very decent prices, the food was very good, great taste and well served (not big servings, just the right amount).
What was unexpected for me, was the music. They have a live singer, who sings any where from opera to Italian pop. He gets the people singing and laughing. Impossible not to notice the singer.
Goes along very well with the Italian menu and some wine.
My wife and I really enjoyed our visit to the restaurant and will definitely be back.
We have been wanting to try Via Lago Trattoria for a very long time. We finally made it here to celebrate my birthday, and boy am I glad we did! The atmosphere is beautiful (and the restaurant is much bigger inside than I imagined it would be). Our server, Nicole, was as nice as can be, and very attentive to our needs. The food (all four of us ordered something different) was outstanding, and each of us said we would order it again (always a true sign that it was tasty). ;) I highly recommend the Pappardelle w/short ribs...simply delicious.
We look forward to visiting again soon...this time we'll bring some friends and come on a night when the music is playing (birthday was on a Monday, so it wasn't a "live entertainment" night). Can't wait to come back!!
Thanks for Friday night live music. Made me forget poorly cooked vegies.
This was our second visit here and the food was great. The service was a little slow, but overall dinner was great. We will be back soon.
The food was delicious. Exceeded my expectations.
The food and wine were really good. I had the Salmon dish and it was so good I finished the entire meal which is not typical for me. I had lemon cheesecake and cappacino for dessert and it was to die for! My only critism was the level of noise. They had an amazing pianist/singer but it was so loud my girlfriends and I couldn't hear each other talk. Part of going to a nice restaurant is enjoying the company of others you are with and it is difficult when the noise level is to loud. Will definitely visit again and hope they have addressed the noise.
Food quality and taste very poor, service not friendly, Menu choices very limited, prices and Menu not the same as on Open Table web site. Will definitely never will go back..
We were seated at a booth that should never have been used. The vinyl was considerably rippped in a least six places. Osso Buco was not available. Caesar salad was mediocre at best...not crisp; limp with only a few shavings of parmesan cheese. Bread was hot and good. Great deal on half off wine on Wednesday. Entree's were very good. Music a bit too loud. Had to yell a bit. The wait staff was very good. Overall, we will try this restaurant one more time and hope that these shortcomings will be fixed.
Lovely all as usual! Marisol was a dear. Great happy hour!
Our reservations are on time, they were very attentive, the food was excellent. Entertainment Our reservations are on time, they were very attentive, the food was excellent. Entertainment was authentic Top notch, family feel.
Highly recommended
My sister's graduation, made the night special for her by an extra something at the end. Most satisfied.
This restaurant is truly a neighborhood gym and a favorite of mine and many of my friends. I have heard that it may be torn down to be replaced by an unneeded and redundant CVS pharmacy. Please stop this very bad idea. Via Lago would be missed and there are two pharmacies already nearby!
From the moment we walked in, the staff was friendly and accomadating. The service was wonderful. The food was delicious. We picked the perfect place for celebrating our wedding anniversary.
We had dinner with friends around 8pm. Very nice ambiance. The food was so good and service was excellent. I would highly recommend this place.
Love everything about this place... From the time you enter til you leave, it's an experience of excellent service, tasty entrees, gourmet desserts! Love the martinis🍸Jan and her staff always make everyone feel like a VIP. Whenever I have out of town visitors, it's our evening out place. With local friends, it's our go-to Italian restaurant; and for my daughter's bridal shower it was a most wonderful afternoon event.
Overall, we enjoyed Mother's Day Brunch at Via Lago. Service was great and the food was very good. The live music was definitely a plus. The selection of food was good, but not great. The salad/cold food selection was mediocre. I'm kind of a food snob, so I'm being very critical. There was nothing I had/tasted that was outstanding, but there was nothing terrible either. Again, overall, it was a great brunch.
Husband and I went to paint nite had a great time. Enjoyed happy hour, I believe it's been the best we have had, from wines to cocktails, menu was absolutely the best from taste to price. Week or so later took friends and enjoyed dinner after Happy hour was great !!
Wife and I were there for our 50th. Both of us felt that the food was excellent. The server was especially attentive.
A very enjoyable evening!!
Had an uncharacteristically sub-par experience there. It's a fine restaurant, usually, but last visit, the service was terrible, we were seated close to several other full tables, even though most of the restaurant was empty. We had to ask, after about 25 minutes of being ignored, for a wine list, and waited another 15 minutes for someone to take drink orders. We finally ordered food, almost an hour after our arrival, and, after another 25 minutes, had to ask the waiter to check on our food. The food was good, except my filet was old, but done perfectly. I love this restaurant, but this wasn't a good visit for us.
The location is not ideal, I always feel overly pedestrian eating in a strip mall even a nice one, but it was worth it. Nice restaurant, we experienced excellent service. The restaurant was not busy and the hostess ensured the tables were seated with room to have a more intimate experience. The food was great. I'll come back this summer to eat on the patio!
We chhose this restaurant to celebrated our 25th Anniversary Estefano our waiter make the ocassion even better, Food was excellente I will recomend
Nice meal and service, only to be disturbed by the excessive sound level and not very good vocal. Impossible to carry on a conversation, due to trying to talk over the vocalist. Also, there was no record of the reservation, through Open Table, when we arrived. Fortunately there was plenty of room.
We've dined here frequently over the years, it has been our experience that when seated indoors, the service is very slow, patio dining is much faster. One of our favorites has been eggplant parmigiana as an entree, it has been removed from the menu. It was offered as an appetizer, so we asked if two orders could be made up as entrees. They accommodated us, however, I did not find it up to its former standards. Too mushy. The wine list is very limited. Since this is a Busalacchi restaurant, I feel they should have a more extensive wine selection.
Whenever you have a very special occasion and treat someone with the best, always consider Via Lago.
Overall the restaurant is nicely decorated. The appetizers were good. When we first got there the place was a little bit busy not too much. We were having a great time until they started setting up for the music part of the evening. We did not know that there would be entertainment so it was a little hard to hold a conversation when the singer was performing. Next time definitely asking for a table outside.

I loved the relaxed feel of this place – it was very comforting, food was delicious and I definitely would like to try other dishes. I had the Lobster Ravioli, and Tiramisu for dessert, it was amazing as well as the Pineapple up side down Martini, very good. Service was well-timed and friendly, food and spirits were affordable. They also had a performer that had entertained us with some tasteful music. Outstanding!!!!. I will return.
Had a ton of fun here. live music and delicious food.what more can you ask for
This place is a go to for a romantic dinner date. Food was good and they have tons of wine selection.
Dinner and service were excellent yet again. The restaurant is nicely appointed and we were greeted warmly. It was my husband's birthday and he was brought out a complimentary Tiramisu for dessert. It was delicious.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Chula Vista area. Great food, service and decor. Their Osso Bucco and Pescatore is a must try. Definitely a must go for foodies and will be back for more.
One iof the best Italian Restaurants in San Diego .
First time there and had a great experience. They had great service: remembered our anniversary and request as noted on reservation. Food- had to try pink vodka sauce as we read from a review. Didn't disappoint! Great with the lobster ravioli. Soup and salad were great. Braised short rib app was awesome too. veal parm was delicious even though sides were not that impressive. Drink selections were great as well. Try Lago's strawberry martini. Also very appreciative of free dessert for anniversary. Tiramisu was fab
Good food with superb service. Highly recommended for a romantic night out.
Happy hour in the patio is a winner as well as the live entertainment that they offer regularly. Dinners are great as well.
Service was a little slow but as always the food was amazing.
Very classy with out being pretentious. Excellent menu and service.
