Via del Corso
I saw the great Yelp reviews (sorry, Opentable) and since I love Italian food, I made reservations. Nothing was great and nothing was horrible, but I I won’t be back.
The restaurant’s atmosphere is upscale Californian bistro. Nothing fancy. You’ve eaten at lots of these places.
The staff was professional and courteous. Our server lacked warmth, but did his job adequately.
The food was the letdown. We started with the meat platter and fagioli (beans). The meat (2-3 slices of four cuts) was placed inartfully on a plate (I do more at home for guests) and came without bread (we had to ask), but tasted very good and as expected. The beans were fantastic; truly the best part of our meal. They were tasty and savory and delicious.
We then had the linguini tutto mare (seafood pasta) and gnocchi in Gorgonzola sauce. The seafood was very fishy (was it not fresh?) but the linguini was delicate, tasty, and clearly homemade. It was a tomato sauce although the description made no reference to that key ingredient. The gnocchi was delicate and well made, but lacked flavor and the sauce itself was insipid. Neither pasta dish was a hit and I cannot recommend either.
We ordered the almond cake with gelato (substituted pistachio for the proposed one) and it was tasty. The gelato was too nutty so it broke into chunks rather than forming a smooth texture as gelato is supposed to.
In all, it was a meal. It wasn’t the worst nor the best. I won’t be back, but you can give it a try if you avoid our mistakes.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here. We will definitely go back.
Beautiful location that we have fond memories of when it was Corso. We came wanting to love it. The service was nice but the menu left us questioning what to order, not much gravitated to us and we love Italian food. There is over-abundance on anchovies which are not my thing but prevented me from getting a salad, a side that had that ingredient. The papardelle was a highlight but my partner got the ravioli—all 9 of them—and was disappointed not just in amount but they were kind of hard. We enjoyed the service, but that isn’t enough to bring us back. The menu does change frequently so maybe we’ll try it again.
Once again, Via Del Corso hits a homerun with us....it was a delicious meal, love how much they change the menu to keep up with the local fresh foods....we took our three grandchildren for the first time and the new scallop starter was hit!
Isabel, Marco, Alexis all too amazing care of us, it is truly our home away from home.....
Love Vito and Justin
This was our second visit since the new restaurant opened in our old favorite restaurant's space. The first visit was a bit disappointing, but not this one. The food was up to the standard that we had loved at Corso. All four of us were highly pleased.
Best gnocchi outside of Italy- little fluffy pillows that were so light they could float away. Small menu. What we had was exquisite. Very professional service. Staff was so so nice. Just a lovely little neighborhood place.
Food quality is just not up to the level of old Corso, although ambiance and service are lovely. Starter: boquerones were not delicate and sun-dried tomatoes tough. Pasta with duck ragu was bland.
Italian quisine from many traditional regions of Italy and the Mediterranean. The Osso Bucco "OB," and even though mi famiglia is from Northern Italy where I am fond of Milanese OB, was an adaptation of a Sardinia OB that is the best OB I have ever eaten. And per favore, don't get me started on the Pork Chop! You will not be dissappointed and may just discover your favorite Italian restorante in the Bay Area.
We were regular diners at the previous version before Covid. Although the food was great the service was always iffy. We have been back to this new incarnation a few times, and have found the food better than ever with a massive improvement in the quality of service. The new owner has really upped their game end it shows. It’s always an enjoyable evening.
Via Del Corso is an outstanding restaurant. Casual but nice environment, good service, waitstaff is well trained and efficient. The food is very special, well cooked beautifully presented. I had a baby spinach salad with persimmon, the best ever. Their desserts are excellent also.
Always an enjoyable evening.
The food was delicious and service excellent, but the experience was marred by the extremely loud noise level making it impossible to converse.
The Osso Bucco was amazing - the lamb melted in your mouth.
First visit under new owners. Food nicely prepared. A little stunned at the price increase- this will likely lessen our visits going forward.
Once again, we walk into our VERY favorite restaurant in Berkeley and we are greeted like family....from the wonderful staff, the amazing cooks and chef and the lovely time we have there is unmatched by any place we go to...we are so grateful to live so close and it has become our weekly dinner date :)
Looking forward to going back to try more of the menu
Fantastic place for my birthday! The food was exquisite and the dessert was the best I've had all year! The almond cake is a must.
Great to see the return. New owner is doing a great job!
Under new ownership, the quality has taken a steep step up.
Excellent food and service. Requires vaccination to eat inside, which is GREATLY appreciated.
Delightful and deliscious
We had a symphony to attend at UCB. We chose Vis Corso because we thought it a reasonable walking distance from Hertz. It was 21 minutes uphill and then a reasonable ~15 minutes down hill after the performance.
The food was very good we shared a salad and shared gnocchi and the lamb shank and dessert. We brought wine and paid corkage. Overall bill came to $120 plus tip. The waiters were efficient and friendly. Everyone around us seem happy. All vaccinated and wearing masks when not eating.
We were greeted by the hostess who checked our vaccinations cards and then we were seated right away. It was our first time dinning inside in a long while and I felt better knowing they were checking cards.
The ambiance was perfect! The tables are a little close but that made it cozy. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
We will definitely return!
its noisy and very delicious. The pasta was not al dente! which is not good for a fancy-ish italian restaurant
My dinner was delicious. The spinach and persimmon salad was outstanding with the approprpriate dressing on it. The beef steak is always great and cooked to perfecton.
The food & service are both impeccable!!!
Lovely neighborhood spot! Go to for delicious Italian Food.
Lovely but overpriced
New ownership, but still a great place to dine. So glad to see the old faces. Miss the branzino, though.
Noise level very high. Only one toilet for all diners. Food ranged from fair to excellent. Closely spaced tables likely comply with current COVID protocol but bothered me.
Wonderful setting. Wonderful ambience. Wonderful service. Best of all, the food was perfect!
We have dined there many times when it was Corso. The portions of food at Via del Corso are quite a bit larger than before. Personally, I preferred the smaller portions--that way I can taste more of their offerings. My spinach salad was delicious as was my " red pasta" dish. The portions were quite large and I was unable to finish my pasta dish. One of our guests had the lettuce salad -which was also huge but unfortunately the lettuce had too much dressing. Two in our party tried the pappardelle-- again a huge portion but not particularly tasty. The fourth in our party had the spinach salad plus the gnocchi and both dishes pleased him very much.
Shrimp appetizer was fabulous. Fuyu persimmon salad was excellent but overdressed. Agnolotti, fish and polenta dishes were very good. The panna cotta and almond cake were divine but I wouldn't order the cannoli. Service was excellent.
So what's not to like? When I called the restaurant to request outside seating because of Covid, the hostess did not say "it's first come" but indicated that seating outside would not be a problem. It was. Inside tables are too close together (too loud) under normal circumstances, and very uncomfortable during Covid.
Truly delicious meal with great cocktails and wine and an outstanding server named Vito. Can’t wait to go back.
Been here twice and both times were really good.
The food and service was lovely. They could take a little more time between courses. The cocktails were delicious!
Spritz terrific. Caprese salad tasted good but the tomatoes were sloppily cut and was not appetizing. Polenta was prepared poorly. Butternut squash ravioli serving was meager. Cannoli was tasteless. I really wanted to like this place but i would not recommend it.
Delicious food, splendid service. Pricey but worth it.
Great food and service was so professional and friendly
Excellent creative Italian with top-notch ingredients! Beautiful atmosphere and excellent service highly recommend this place!
