Great menu and venue for Sunday brunch. Service was a little slow and had to ask for things we needed.
The food was adequate (the fish dip was nice, the rest was just okay), the setting beautiful. The service was really not good.
Meh. My daughter and I went for an early dinner and even though we reserved a table there wasn’t a record of our reservation using open table. We ended up offering to sit at the bar. I ordered short ribs and the meat was so tough that it was inedible. Both meals, a burger and the short ribs were cold. We didn’t complain and in hind site probably should have. It’s a great facility so we were disappointed that the food wasn’t as great as the service and the atmosphere.
Church turned into a bar gives me the creeps. I kept looking around thinking at some point someone gave their life to serving Christ in this church now it’s full of people drinking, the environment to me felt sacrilegious
We were amazed at how beautiful the place was. We tried two starters, the cheese board, and the croquettes. Both were excellent, and I'd recommend either, but if I had to choose, I'd go with the croquettes. I tried the Ships Pass in the Night drink as well as the Tipping Point and my partner tried Tigers Pacing in a Cage and we enjoyed each. I couldn't pick a favorite. I had the Seared Scallops which were perfect. It came on a bed of risotto. My partner had the Braised Beef Short Rib and we were both impressed with our meals.
Loved the ambience. Highly recommend for date night.
This is a stunning location and venue. What a truly unique concept to put a restaurant in a former church and make it work so very well.
The food is amazing and unique. Fresh and with flavors that are not masked.
I had the scallops with lemon risotto. Fabulous and exquisite. Best scallops I have had in years. Perfectly cooked and seasoned.
My sister had the roasted pork chop. Was a healthy thick chop perfectly tender.
The service was good. The drinks were very good.
Highly recommend. Very satisfied.
I had such high expectations based on the positives reviews and holding out hope that the average/poor reviews of bad service did not come true. Well that's what you get for hoping. In short, limited menu, below average food, horrible service. There are too many other brunch places to waste your time or $ here.
We had reservations for Sunday brunch, 1pm. The restaurant was no more than 1/4 full, we had to wait 20 minutes at the bar for a table to be set - not a big deal - IF we could get a drink but the bartender was more interested in talking with a patron and looking at their phones. By the time our table was ready (20 minutes!) he finally came over to take our drink order.
Finally seated, I had to go back to the bar to find someone to take our food order and then I brought our drinks to the table myself as they were sitting on the bar. I had a burger that was cooked well but way over salted and then when the waitress was a no-show I had to go back to the bar. Food was below average; service was worse.
Great food and cocktails, we had the braised beef short rib with creamed potatoes, and the seared scallops with risotto, with a "Violent delights have violent ends" cocktail.
cool venue BUT food & service needs a lot of work. our table was not ready when we arrived even though there were plenty of tables available, the manager never came to our table to check in. The food was good but nothing I would want to order again. I would go back for drinks only
The food was pretty bad. The short rib was tough and inedible. The mushroom risotto was watery and had some tough grains of rice in it. Mussels were average but the fries were limp. Place was much more of a bar than a restaurant. Bar was hopping and drinks good but terrible food. Would not go back.
Not worth the Uber fare. Food was good but nothing special. Pork chop raw. Overpriced. Beautiful venue, but funny smell when arrived. Too many better options for the effort.
I've been to Vessel many times but, unfortunate for me, I had not eaten there in awhile. A girlfriend and I chose Vessel for Sunday brunch. It was simply perfect.
We were greeted promptly upon entering. She arrived first and was seated right away, and I joined her shortly thereafter. Host was enthusiastic and our server came right over. I usually opt for more interesting dishes but this time, I decided to give the 8 oz burger a shot. Big, thick beef patty cooked to an absolute perfect medium. Add a farm fresh fried egg and sliced avocado and brunch is served!! I have to say, this burger is one of the best kept secrets in Mid City!
My dining companion opted for a lovely salad with candied pecans and strawberries, which she quite enjoyed. But the piece de resistance for me was the dessert! It was a chocolate cake so incredibly dense of chocolatey, that I could only take small bites as a time so as to savour all it was meant to be. Lush, delicious, flavorful, a virtual chocolate symphony! My friend got.the angel food cake, light and fluffy, with fresh fruit and tangy lemon curd. While she thoroughly enjoyed her dessert, she quickly leaned over and finished mine as well. I can see me coming back just for that chocolate cake and the AMAZING burger!
We were often visited by the manager and our server was always right there. Attentive and good service.
This place NEVER disappoints and you would be doing yourself a favor by trying it out, and often!
Wonderful staff, great atmosphere, food and drink did not disappoint. This was our first visit, and we will definitely go back again.
I really wanted to love this place. The building and restaurant itself are gorgeous! Sadly the food leaves a lot to be desired. this was my second visit to vessel since the restaurant changed names and management. We started with the ham and cheese croquettes as an appetizer, those were delicious. For the main course I had the hamburger cooked medium and my dinner companion had the ribs. While my burger was over cooked and the bun soggy, my dates ribs were bland and under seasoned and she commented that the potatoes tasted instant. I should also note that two of the main courses on the dinner menu were unavailable as well as one of the appetizers we try to order. The service was a bit slow towards the end of the meal but not bad overall but I was underwhelmed and a bit disappointed with the experience as a whole. The next time I go back it will simply be for drinks and appetizers. I don’t see myself spending on a meal there again.
We really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and cool setting. We had a few cocktails - Pink Lady and Hemingway Daquiri that were amazing! The food was delicious. Highly recommended for a date or hanging out at the bar with friends.
An odd venue that works wonders. Nobody raved about the food, and in fact the curried lamb pasta was mainly curried noodles: no lamb was significantly harmed in its creation. Appetizers and desserts were generous.
Food was a good value, though there was a lot of overlap in the ingredients used in each dish (i.e. the items in the pickle plate were used in the main dishes we ordered, making me regret ordering the pickle plate). Great atmosphere, great cocktails. Wine is overpriced.
Lovely re-purpose of a Lutheran church, with a friendly and polished staff, good food, delicious cocktails.
If I lived here, I’d be a regular... and be able to say honestly, that I go to church every week!
The evening started out well. We were very much taken with the space. The restaurant wasn't quite half full when we arrived at 7:30 PM. While waiting for our server to arrive--which she did after we'd been there about five minutes--a couple sat down beside us. When she arrived, she had water for both tables. She served us first and said she'd take our drink order after she delivered water to the next table. She delivered their water, took their drink order and disappeared. The drinks came to the other couple before our order was taken. I ordered one of the craft cocktails; it was really bad, but I will give it to Vessel that they did not charge us for that drink. In the meantime, another couple sat on the other side of us.
It took some time for the server to take our order. I ordered sides from the vegetarian menu and my guest ordered chicken. My sides came out in a timely fashion, and my friend nibbled from them. The brussels sprouts were inedibly salty. The macaroni and cheese was soupy. The thin fries were pretty much what you'd get anywhere--exciting maybe 15 years ago, but boring now. The corn salad was good, though. I'd have that again.
The server told us that my friend's chicken would be ready in just a moment, but after 10 minutes of waiting, she came back and told us that she'd neglected to submit his order.
After another 15 minutes of waiting, we asked that the chicken order be canceled. The server said, "I have to ask my manager." We asked for a dessert menu, and I ordered my favorite dessert, bread pudding. It was desert dry, and the spices made it taste like potpourri. In the meantime, the guests on either side of us were long gone by the time we finished. The space was beautiful, but the server was incredibly uninterested in us, and the food was, at best so-so when it wasn't bad or missing. We were not comped anything for our long wait for phantom food. Overall, we were there for 2 hours, mostly waiting for drinks or food.
While we loved the beautiful space that Vessel is housed in, our meal was not what we were hoping it would be in a city with so much great food. Some of our dishes were good but many of them felt like they were overcomplicated with flavors that didn't work that well together. We sent one of our dishes back (curried lamb) and were really disappointed with the shrimp and grits in terms of texture and flavor. We did love the cocktails and the house-made ice cream but overall, we were hoping to better to celebrate my 40th birthday from out of state.
Food was excellent but service was slow.
The spare rib is the best I’ve ever had. Must try for all first timers.
I tried this place several times when they first opened and the food was less than mediocre. The food has improved considerably. However, the service was slow and not the most attentive.
My daughter ordered a Shirley temple with maraschino cherries. The waitress must have forgotten the drink bc by the time it arrived all the ice was melted. Then the cherries were luxardo (which i prefer but not my daughter). I then asked for another with the maraschino cherries - the 2nd drink came in a more timely manner (ice was not melted) but again it had luxardo cherries.
My daughter and grandfather ordered the tomato soup and they both loved it. My grandfather ordered the chopped salad and specifically said he wanted the avocados in it but it arrived with cucumber galore and tomatoes - he couldn’t taste avocado.
For our entrees my daughter ordered the lemon truffle risotto and she enjoyed it very much. I specifically asked for the vegetarian menu then ordered a pasta while pointing to it on the vegetarian menu. It is quite dark so when my dish came i could not see all the ingredients plus it is topped with a ton of cheese and greenery. I stated by pulling a couple pieces of pasta from the side then on my 3rd bite i had what i thought was a mushroom but it was goat!!! It took some time before the waitress checked on our dishes so by the time they sent the corrected dish i was not only was it getting late (school night) but i didn’t feel that great. I ate a couple bites then had it packed to go home.
So there were many hiccups when it came to service but i will try again bc the food was very good. I just learned that i will need to be specific when ordering and when the food arrives that i ordered vegetarian.
Accommodating with Happy hour specials in cool old Church setting with surprising food prep and presentation.
Single or group tables with good service and relative value
Gorgeous venue and delicious food! They worked with me on a last-minute reservation to add two people to our brunch party. Much appreciated!!
The table service was very laid-back - not as attentive as our group preferred. However, the food and presentation was EXCELLENT, and the venue was truly unique. Hope to be back soon!
Drinks were amazing. Building was gorgeous. Give this place a shot.
I really wanted to like Vessel. However, the service was incredibly slow. Our waiter took our order and then we didn’t see him again for an hour—no food, and no drink refills.
Food was just ok. I got the market fish which didn’t have a lot of flavor. My fiancé got the short ribs which was hearty but again didn’t have any flavor. The French fries were delicious though!
I think I’d go back but only for drinks.
Awesome spot for a date or group who appreciates a good menu. Great wine and cocktail list too. Shrimp and corn salad was delicious as was the fried brussel sprouts.
Loved this restaurant. Amazing food and such a fun venue
We have been to Vessel before, but this was our first time at brunch; though we had similar service problems. We waited 20 minutes after being seated before we got up and asked if we could be helped. That was only after 1 of the other 2 tables filled also asked if they were going to be helped. We waited almost another 10 before our waters came out, though multiple staff members were just talking. When ordering, the waitress said eggs could only be served scrabbled, but then took different egg styles for different members of our party. 15 minutes after we placed the order, she came back and said that she didn't actually know what we placed and will need to take it again, though she wrote it down. Refills on water were never taken, drinks took 30 minutes from ordering, and a simple glass of milk wasn't brought till we were setting the bill. The food was was poor quality. The eggs had film and were barely cooked. The biscuits were hard as a rock, the ham was more like spam, and the grits looked and tasted like baby formula powder. The only redeeming part of the meal were the fries. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The fact that the staff felt no concern for their customers (as we were not the only table getting up and asking for service) shows the quality of the place.
This was our second visit to Vessel and we still love it! I made a reservation for 7 but we ended up having an additional three people join us. Our waitress was super accommodating and very nice about the entire situation. Anyway, this place is great, they make quality creative cocktails, its a great vibe; pretty suitable for any occasion. OH! They also serve food! The food is awesome lol...I had the mussels in a spicy shrimp broth, omg delicious. We love it so much we may try to have one of our wedding events (maybe a meet and greet! here).
So pleased with our choice to dine here. Such a cool unique ambiance, and the food was stellar. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared, creative and delicious.
We enjoyed our visit, the food was delicious but somewhat limited menu. My own gripe is the bench seating along the window wall has an 18”’high back. Horribly uncomfortable. Had a back ache by the time we left. Most of the seating has no back. Not conducive for a relaxing evening.
Vessel is always a wonderful place to catch up with friends - great cocktails and environment. Service is almost always on point. Lots of food to share.
The restaurant was a bit empty and it took about 50 min to get our food. That is the only negative I have for our visit. It’s about the 4-5 time here and first slow service so far
The strawberry salad and lamb bolognese were delicious picks.
Great atmosphere, and very original setting in a former chapel.
The staff is very nice and helpful - even got offered a taste of craft cocktail !
We were very rushed to get out toward the end of our meal as they were closing in 20 minutes.
Third time I’ve been here and third different owner / name / chef. Food is excellent as is the vibe. In this iteration the bar has been relocated to create a cool open area. Worth the trip.
The service was really slow even though there weren’t many customers. The food and drinks were good.
Food was great, mixed drinks not so much. Spent $24 on o cocktail for 2 and it was so bad we couldn’t drink it.
